Itinerary
- Day 1
Melbourne to Halls Gap
Start early from Melbourne and head along the Great Ocean Road. You'll stop to see the 12 Apostles limestone formations, which are really impressive rock structures rising from the ocean. After that, walk through Great Otway National Park where the rainforest is thick and green with ancient trees everywhere. Mid-morning, grab tea and pastries at a local chocolaterie to refuel. Keep an eye out for kangaroos, koalas, and other native wildlife as you make your way through the park. Later, visit Loch Ard Gorge to see the dramatic coastal cliffs and rock formations. By evening, you'll arrive at your accommodation in Halls Gap, nestled near the Grampians.

Halls Gap to Melbourne
After breakfast, head into Grampians National Park for the day. Stop at Boroka Lookout first to see views across the rugged landscape, then make your way to Reeds Lookout, also called the Balconies, where the vistas get even better. Walk some of the park's trails and learn about the Aboriginal cultural heritage of the area, which runs deep through these mountains. The waterfalls are nice when there's been rain, and you might spot kangaroos or emus moving through the scrubland. In the afternoon, start driving back to Melbourne. You'll pull into the city around or after 5:30 PM.
