Moshi to Londorossi Gate
You'll start driving from Moshi to Londorossi Gate this morning, handling registration once you arrive. Then the trekking begins through thick rainforest where the trail gets muddy and slippery as you work your way up. The path climbs steadily through montane forest, taking you from 6,000 ft to 9,678 ft over 10 km before you reach Shira Camp 1 by evening.

Shira Camp 1 to Shira Camp 2
After breakfast, you'll trek 12 km through the moorland zone over about 6 to 7 hours. The trail moves gradually upward through open grasslands and volcanic rock, so there's plenty to see as you work your way across the landscape. By afternoon you'll approach the Shira Plateau and catch panoramic views before arriving at camp.

Shira Camp 2 to Barranco Camp
Starting from Shira Camp 2, you head up a ridge toward Kibo peak then turn southeast toward the Lava Tower, which locals call 'Shark's Tooth'. You'll pass the Arrow Glacier junction at 16,000 ft, then make your way down to Barranco Camp. The day ends lower than it started, but it's critical for helping your body adjust to the altitude.

Barranco Camp to Karanga Valley Camp
This is a shorter day focused on acclimatization. You'll tackle the steep Barranco Wall, which is one of the trek highlights and involves some scrambling and rope work in certain spots. Reaching the top takes effort, but the views from up there are worth it. Then you head down to Karanga Valley campsite at 13,123 ft.

Karanga Valley Camp to Barafu Hut
You'll trek just 4 km from Karanga Camp through rocky, barren alpine desert to reach Barafu Hut at 15,092 ft. The landscape is stark and open, giving you panoramic views of both Mawenzi and Kibo peaks along the way. Barafu Camp is exposed, so prepare for potentially harsh weather with strong winds and cold temperatures before your summit push.

Barafu Hut to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Around midnight you'll start your summit attempt, heading steeply northwest through heavy scree toward Stella Point on the crater rim. This section is the most physically and mentally demanding part of the entire trek. You'll reach Stella Point at 18,600 ft for sunrise if conditions allow, then continue another hour to Uhuru Peak at 19,341 ft, Africa's highest point. After that comes the long descent to Mweka Camp through upper forest, with a lunch stop at Barafu.

- Day 7
Mweka Camp to Moshi
Your final descent takes you 10 km through rainforest from Mweka Camp down to Mweka Gate over 3 to 4 hours. The trail can be muddy and slippery, so take your time. Once you reach the gate, you'll receive your official summit certificates. A vehicle then takes you back to your hotel in Moshi where you can rest and celebrate completing the trek.
