Tamanrasset
You'll arrive in Tamanrasset on a domestic flight from Algiers where your local Tuareg guide will be waiting. From there, you head out through the Ahaggar Mountains, driving past volcanic landscapes and dramatic rock formations. Stop at the local market to get a feel for the area and see what's available. Later in the day, make your way up to the Charles de Foucauld Hermitage on Assekrem Plateau. Timing works out so you'll be there for the sunset, which gives you those wide-open views across the desert plateau.

- Day 2
Tamanrasset to Tadrart Rouge
Your 4x4 departs at 4am for Tadrart Rouge, so you'll want to get some sleep the night before. The drive takes you into red dune territory with natural rock arches and dramatic cliff formations. You'll make stops along the way for photos and have desert tea breaks to take in the scenery. Later, you'll explore caves and overhangs that hold prehistoric rock art, then settle into camp under the stars in this otherworldly setting.

This morning, you're exploring In Djaren within Tassili n'Ajjer, where rock art dating back over 8,000 years covers the rock faces. Your guide walks you through the images of giraffes, cattle, and early human life, explaining what these depictions tell us about ancient Sahara inhabitants. After lunch in the dunes, you'll continue toward your next campsite, surrounded by towering cliffs with sand that glows in the light.

- Day 4
Tamanrasset
Break camp early and start driving back toward Tamanrasset, but you'll stop along the way to visit Tuareg communities scattered throughout the region. Here you get to see traditional silverwork and crafts being made, plus learn how nomadic families actually live day to day. By afternoon you're back at your lodge where things slow down. You'll have time to rest up, browse the Tuareg artisan market if anything caught your eye, or you can join optional workshops where locals teach cooking or prepare traditional tea.
