Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Moshi

You'll arrive in Moshi and get settled in for what's ahead. This is your base before heading up Mount Kilimanjaro, so take time to acclimate and prepare your gear. The town sits at about 2,200 feet, which gives your body a chance to adjust before the trek begins. Check into your accommodation and handle any last-minute preparations you need.

    Start point
Moshi, Kilimanjaro, Tanzania (Main Enterance, 00:00 - 00:00)
    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
    Landmarks
    Mount Kilimanjaro
  2. Day 2

    Machame Gate to Machame Hut

Head out from Machame Gate this morning and start trekking toward Machame Hut. The Machame Route takes you through lush forest at first, with the elevation gain being gradual. You'll cover roughly 7 miles and climb about 3,000 feet, passing through thick vegetation and occasional clearings. By evening you'll reach the hut at around 9,000 feet and settle in for the night.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

    Included Activities

    • Trek from Machame Gate to Machame Hut
    Landmarks
    Machame Gate
    Machame Hut
  3. Day 3

    Machame Camp to Shira Camp

Leave Machame Camp and trek toward Shira Camp, continuing upward through different landscape zones. As you climb higher, the dense forest gradually transitions to more open terrain with smaller plants and shrubs. The trek covers about 5 miles with a significant elevation gain, bringing you to around 12,600 feet. You'll notice the air getting thinner as the day goes on.

    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

    Included Activities

    Machame Camp
    Shira Camp
  4. Day 4

    Shira Camp to Barranco Camp

From Shira Camp, you'll traverse across the high plateau and then descend through alpine meadows as you head toward Barranco Camp. This is a longer day covering roughly 8 miles, and you'll pass through some of the most open terrain on the mountain. The walk is less strenuous than previous days because of the descent, though the altitude will still feel present. You'll end at Barranco Camp around 13,000 feet.

    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

    Included Activities

    Barranco Camp
  5. Day 5

    Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp

This is a tough day as you tackle the steep Barranco Wall and push toward Barafu Camp. The wall itself is about 900 feet of challenging scrambling over loose rock and steep slopes, but it's more stamina than technical skill. After conquering that, the terrain opens up and you'll trek across high-altitude desert landscape. You'll reach Barafu Camp at roughly 15,300 feet, where you'll rest before the summit attempt.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

    Included Activities

    • Trek from Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp
    Landmarks
    Barranco Camp
    Barafu Camp
  6. Day 6

Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Camp

Start well before sunrise for the final push to Uhuru Peak. You'll leave Barafu Camp in darkness around midnight or 1 a.m., trekking slowly upward through the night. The last 3,000 feet to the summit are slow going because of the altitude and thin air. Once you reach Uhuru Peak at 19,341 feet, you'll have time to enjoy the accomplishment before descending all the way down to Mweka Camp, arriving in late afternoon.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

    Included Activities

    • Trek from Barafu Camp to Mount Kilimanjaro summit
    • Descent to Mweka Camp
    Landmarks
    Barafu Camp
    Uhuru Peak
    Mweka Camp
  7. Day 7

    Mweka Camp to Gate

Complete the final descent from Mweka Camp down to Mweka Gate, finishing your trek on the mountain. This last stretch is downhill and relatively quick, though your legs will feel the effort from the previous days. You'll walk through forest similar to what you saw at the beginning, which is a nice change from the high-altitude terrain. Once you reach the gate, you'll get your official finishing certificate and head back to town.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

    Included Activities

    • Trek from Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
    Landmarks
    Mweka Camp
    Mweka Gate
  8. Day 8

    Arusha to Lake Manyara

Drive from Arusha toward Lake Manyara and start a game drive in this national park. The lake itself is lined with acacia trees and attracts incredible birdlife, and you might spot some of the famous tree-climbing lions the park is known for. You'll see zebras, giraffes, buffalo, and water birds in good numbers. The park is smaller than some others in the region but densely populated with wildlife, making for a full day of driving and watching.

  9. Day 9

    Lake Manyara to Serengeti

Travel from Lake Manyara heading toward Serengeti National Park, which is several hours away by vehicle. The drive takes you through different terrain and smaller towns, passing through Ngorongoro Conservation Area en route. You'll arrive at Serengeti in the late afternoon and settle into your camp or lodge. The Serengeti is massive and one of the most well-known wildlife areas in Africa, with massive herds and constant predator activity.

  10. Day 10

    Serengeti National Park

Spend the day on game drives across the Serengeti's vast savannas, watching the incredible animal populations. You'll likely see wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, and various predators like lions and leopards. The park covers nearly 5,700 square miles, so you'll cover different areas depending on where the animals are concentrated. Your guide will take you to productive spots, and you might encounter multiple sightings in a single day. Morning and late afternoon are usually best for activity.

    Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater

Drive from Serengeti toward Ngorongoro Crater, incorporating game drives along the way. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area has good wildlife viewing in its own right, so you won't just be traveling between parks. You'll arrive at the crater by afternoon and get your first views of this natural wonder, which is basically a massive volcanic caldera teeming with animals. The crater is roughly 12 miles across and 2,000 feet deep, and you'll have time to settle in and explore the rim.

  12. Day 12

Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha to Zanzibar

Leave Ngorongoro Crater and head toward Arusha, then fly from there to Zanzibar. The drive back takes a few hours, so you'll have time for a final game drive or to explore Arusha before heading to the airport. The flight to Zanzibar is about an hour, and you'll arrive on this island known for its white-sand beaches and turquoise water. From there, transfer to Kendwa Rocks beach where you'll spend the next few days relaxing after your active safari and trekking.

  13. Day 13

    Kendwa Rocks Beach

Settle into Kendwa Rocks beach and spend the day relaxing on the sand. The beach here has fine white sand and clear water, making it ideal for swimming and just unwinding. You can walk along the shoreline, try swimming, or sit under the shade and read. There are local restaurants nearby where you can grab fresh seafood or other meals. This is your chance to recover from the previous days and enjoy being near the water after mountains and savannas.

Some people use these days for spa treatments or beach massage services that are available in the area.
