  I will be in Trieste for the month of March learning Italian at Piccola Universitat. I see you pick people up at the Venice airport to begin the tour. Does that mean that I need to get to the Venice airport to start the group tour on April 2? If so, what time would I need to be there and can you recommend transportation and a hotel for the night before? I am leaving for the states on April 14 and will probably be in Udine following your group tour. Do you only drop off the group following the tour at Venice airport or could you drop me in the Udine area?

    The hotel in Venice is usually in Mestre, which is on the mainland of Venice. We can absolutely arrange an arrival transfer from Venice Airport (VCE) and include a pre-night hotel stay in Mestre if needed. Yes, the group tour starts in Venice on April 2 and ends in Dubrovnik. You would need to be in the Venice area to join the group, but you do not need to overnight at the airport—Mestre is ideal and well-connected. Transportation from Trieste to Mestre is very easy by train (direct and frequent), and I can recommend both a suitable hotel in Mestre and the arrival transfer timing once confirmed. At the end of the tour, group drop-off is in Dubrovnik, not Venice. Since you'll be traveling independently afterward to Udine, I'd be happy to advise on post-tour travel options for that portion.

    How are people getting from Dubrovnik back to Venice airport? So we are being dropped off at Dubrovnik and then have to find transportation to wherever we're all going?

    My concern is that following the group tour and being dropped at Dubrovnik and having to get back to Udine or at least Trieste where I fly out of Trieste for me return to the United States on April 14.

    The tour does not end in Venice. As outlined in the itinerary, the tour concludes in Dubrovnik. From Dubrovnik, there are regular flights to Venice, which makes it quite straightforward to continue onward. Once in Venice, you can then easily connect by train to Trieste or Udine for your return flight to the United States on April 14. This routing is commonly used and works well logistically.

    No I realize it starts in Venice and ends in Dubrovnik but that adds two flights to this cost overall. Are there trains or buses from Trieste to Venice and Dubrovnik to Trieste?

    Yes, there are easy and frequent trains between Trieste and Venice. The journey is very straightforward and takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, making it a simple connection before the tour begins. From Dubrovnik to Trieste, however, there are no direct trains, and overland travel by bus would be quite long and complex, involving border crossings and multiple connections. For that reason, most travelers find that flying is by far the most practical and time-efficient option for the return.
