Itinerary
- Day 1
Darwin to Kakadu National Park
Leaving Darwin behind, you'll head into the Top End and enter Kakadu National Park. The day starts at Mamukala Wetlands where you can see thousands of Magpie Geese in their natural habitat. From there, you'll walk through Ubirr Rock to check out ancient Aboriginal rock art galleries and take in the sweeping views over the floodplains. Later in the afternoon, you'll stop at Nourlangie Rock, another sacred site with paintings that date back 20,000 years.

- Day 2
Kakadu National Park to Katherine
After breakfast, you'll start the day with a wildlife cruise on Yellow Water Billabong, where you can spot crocodiles and a variety of birdlife throughout the water. Then you'll drive south via Pine Creek, heading toward the outback town of Katherine. The drive takes you through changing landscape as you move toward your next stop.

Katherine to Kununurra
You'll take a scenic boat cruise through Katherine Gorge this morning, gliding past sheer sandstone cliffs and looking for Aboriginal rock art along the way. After the gorge, you'll cross into Western Australia and continue on to Kununurra, a town in the Kimberley region. It's a full day of travel but the scenery shifts noticeably as you make your way east.

Kununurra and Wyndham
An early start gets you into El Questro Wilderness Park for a guided walk through the gorges. You'll see the landscape up close and understand why this area is so remote and striking. Later, you'll head to Wyndham and climb up to Five Rivers Lookout, where five rivers meet the Cambridge Gulf and you can see for miles. If the season is right, you might also visit Marglu Billabong bird sanctuary or take a swim at The Grotto, a natural swimming hole.

Wyndham to Kununurra
The morning is more relaxed, giving you time to settle in before you transfer to Lake Argyle. You'll visit the Durack Homestead Museum to learn about the area's history and the families who settled here. Later, you'll take a cruise on the Ord River back toward Kununurra, watching for wildlife and finishing the day as the sun sets over the water.

- Day 6
Bungle Bungle and Purnululu National Park
This is a real highlight of the trip. You'll fly over Lake Argyle, the Carr Boyd Ranges, and remote cattle stations before landing in Purnululu National Park. Once there, a 4WD takes you deeper in, and you'll explore on foot around the Bungle Bungle Range. You can see the distinctive striped beehive domes and walk through Cathedral Gorge, a natural amphitheatre surrounded by remote wilderness. Lunch is a picnic in this incredible setting. The day ends with a scenic flight back to your starting point, passing over the Argyle Diamond Mine on the way.

- Day 7
Kununurra to Fitzroy Crossing
Traveling along the Great Northern Highway, you'll stop in Halls Creek, a town with gold rush history still visible in its buildings and stories. From there, you can see the China Wall, an unusual natural quartz formation that rises up from the landscape. After that, you'll continue driving through the rugged Kimberley terrain toward Fitzroy Crossing, with the red earth and sparse vegetation characteristic of this region.

Fitzroy Crossing to Broome
You'll cruise through Geikie Gorge, where the Fitzroy River has carved its path through an ancient fossilized Devonian reef, and keep watch for freshwater crocodiles and birds along the cliffs. On the drive toward Broome, you'll visit the Boab Prison Tree near Derby, a historical site tied to a difficult part of local history. By evening you'll arrive in Broome, where the landscape changes dramatically and red desert meets turquoise ocean.
