We would like to know about the camping- nights, ca. 50%. Many times we are over 2000 m or more, isn it to cold to spend the nights in the tents? Is there a toilet in the truck? The price is + USD 1'350, is it correct?

Transport is on one of our specially designed overland expedition trucks. The trucks don't have toilets nor fridges onboard. Overnights are a mix of camping and budget hotels/hostels/guesthouses. Sometimes we sleep in fixed campsites that have shared washing/toilet facilities, but we also do a fair bit of bush camping where we set up entirely on our own, and you will be toileting 'al-fresco'. The pre-paid trip price is £1995 per person plus a local payment of US$1350 per person.

What are the actual start and end dates of this trip? 9 November to 13 December is 35 days but the write up states that in 2025 this trip is being extended to 39 days so the dates can't be right.

Next year's trip will be 39 days, and will start with us departing from Lima on Day 1, 9th November. You will need to arrive into Lima on 8th November at the latest. We then finish in Santiago on Day 39, which is the 17th December.

This tour is 15 weeks of mixed weather, mixed altitude, mixed areas such as cities and national parks, beaches and mountains. Its a great way to see lots of things, experience everything and get involved. All while making friends on the truck and enjoying the security of a team guiding you. The crew were great, Kim the tour leader was fab at organising optional activities and recommending places to eat, drink or see. Gareth our driver was great, kept us safe and fixed anything that needed attention. Its hard work, you camp lots or stay in a mixture of hotel/guesthouses and hostels. People get ill, tired and drama will happen but that's all part of the experience. You look out for each other and dig in. I loved my time and experience but just be prepared its not a normal package holiday!Show more

Be warned this is a bare bones tour where Oasis provides transportation, a way to group prepare food and money for that food when not in town (but no refrigeration and a tight budget), and minimal accomodations. You will normally stay in dorm rooms, often with people not traveling with you, or stay in gas station parking lots in provided tents, some that leaked. While included activities are included, they are few. Optional and other activities are the responsibility of the passengers to locate and book themselves. Accomodations aren't always in town. An example is where the description talks about Devil's Island and the European Spaceport, the only Oasis affordable accommodation in Kourou was a campground 20 km out of town in a town famous for few taxis. So it was next to impossible to visit both of them without 'leaving the truck' for several days and finding our own transportation and own more expensive accomodations. Which some of us did. We lucked out on Kaieteur Falls because we just happened to have the right number of passengers who wanted to go in order to charter a flight and one of the passengers was willing to organize it. But don't count on seeing the falls unless you 'leave the truck' for many days to catch a scheduled flight with enough passengers. In the future I will likely take busses and book my own accomodations to save money and see more. Or go on all inclusive tours. Some people really like the forced social interaction on a budget and some liked they didn't have to think about the transportation or accomodations, only the rest for a bit more cost than self travel. This trip is for them.Show more
