  Disappointing Experience with Our Morocco Tour Operator Unfortunately, our experience with this tour operator fell well short of our expectations. While many people we encountered in Morocco were kind and helpful, several issues with the tour arrangements, accommodation, communication, and level of guiding left us disappointed and uncomfortable. I am sharing our experience so that other travelers can make an informed decision when choosing a tour company. 1. Confusion over breakfast arrangements When we arrived at the Four Seasons Hotel in Casablanca, we were informed that breakfast was not included, despite the itinerary stating otherwise for that day. We had already eaten on the plane and understood that breakfast is not always included when arriving on the same morning as check-in, so we did not make an issue of it. However, we were subsequently told that breakfast was also not included the following morning, despite having stayed at the hotel overnight. After some discussion with the front desk, we were eventually informed that the tour operator would cover the cost. We initially assumed this was an isolated misunderstanding and moved on. 2. The guiding arrangements and transportation The following day, we began our Casablanca tour. We were told that there would be no separate guide because the Hassan II Mosque visit would include a guide. We took the standard tour offered at the mosque, but this was not the same as having a guide accompany us throughout the city as we had expected from the itinerary. We were then driven to Chefchaouen by a driver who spoke no English that we could communicate in. Although he appeared to be a safe driver, even basic questions about the journey, our destination, or the estimated travel time were difficult to communicate. This made us feel particularly dependent on the tour operator for information and assistance. We also discovered that the car had battery problems and would sometimes fail to start. On one occasion, we were left stranded in a remote mountainous area. This was concerning, particularly given the length of the journey and the locations we were traveling through. 3. Accommodation that differed from our expectations When we arrived in Chefchaouen, we discovered that we would not be staying at the accommodation we had expected. We were taken to a property in a part of town that appeared quite different from the area we had anticipated. The host did not speak English, which added to the communication difficulties. When I contacted the tour operator to raise concerns about the lack of a guide, the communication difficulties with the driver, and the accommodation arrangements, the conversation became confrontational. He raised his voice and subsequently refused to continue the conversation with me. When we requested alternative accommodation, we were moved to another property that also fell short of our expectations. The area had an unpleasant smell, and the shower and bathroom drainage were inadequate. To be fair, the staff at the property were friendly and made an effort to help us within their means. We were also accommodated at a different riad in Fez, near the tanneries, where the smell was particularly unpleasant throughout our stay. Our understanding from the itinerary was that we would be staying at the Sahrai Hotel. The repeated changes to accommodation, without clear communication in advance, were a major source of frustration. 4. Conflicting information about the type of tour we had booked One of our biggest concerns was the discrepancy between the advertised tour and the service provided. The tour was presented under the title of a fully guided tour, which was a significant factor in our decision to book it. However, after we raised concerns about the absence of a guide in Chefchaouen, the operator told us that we had booked a partially guided tour and therefore should not have expected a guide throughout. When we pointed out that the itinerary prominently described the tour as fully guided, he referred us to other sections in which the partially guided arrangements were mentioned. He also explained that the fully guided title had been automatically generated by the platform on which the tour was advertised. This explanation did not resolve our concern. If the tour was only partially guided, we believe that this should have been made clear and consistent throughout the listing before we booked. The conflicting descriptions created expectations that were not met. We asked whether a guide could be arranged in Chefchaouen, but were told it was too late. When I described the discrepancy as potentially fraudulent, the operator became upset and stopped responding to my WhatsApp messages. After this interaction, we became reluctant to raise further concerns. We were worried that doing so might result in further accommodation changes or difficulties with our transportation. We cannot say what the operator's intentions were, but the lack of constructive communication left us feeling vulnerable while traveling in an unfamiliar country. 5. Unclear hotel substitutions and itinerary changes After we had arrived in Morocco, the operator sent us a hotel list that continued to use wording such as “Hotel X or equivalent.” We found this confusing because we had assumed the accommodations would already have been booked and confirmed before our arrival. Our understanding was that we would stay at the Four Seasons in Casablanca, particularly because we had specifically requested it. However, when we returned to Casablanca for our departure, we were placed in a different hotel. Although that property also advertised itself as a five-star hotel, the change was not what we had expected based on our earlier communications. The itinerary had not clearly identified a different hotel for our return to Casablanca, so we had assumed that the same hotel would be used for both stays. The issue was not simply whether the alternative hotel had a five-star rating; it was the lack of clarity about where we would be staying and the absence of advance communication about the change. There was also a last-minute accommodation change involving Xeluca Dades and Eden Boutique. The itinerary we received after arriving in Morocco listed Xeluca Dades, and we had discussed changing the Chefchaouen accommodation to Eden Boutique. However, the operator also changed the Dades accommodation without informing us, and we only discovered this when we arrived at the property. We still do not understand why this additional change was made. Regardless of the reason, we would have appreciated being informed and given an explanation beforehand. 6. The overall experience Throughout the trip, we struggled to determine whether the problems arose from miscommunication, poor organization, or a difference between what was advertised and what was actually provided. We do not want to speculate about the operator's intentions, but the repeated discrepancies and the way our concerns were handled seriously undermined our confidence in the company. We have traveled to many countries, including Egypt, Turkey, Spain, Italy, Pakistan, the United States, and Saudi Arabia, and have generally tried to approach travel experiences with an open mind. This was an unusually stressful experience, primarily because we did not feel comfortable asking the tour operator for help when problems arose. Even our final interaction with the driver was affected by this loss of confidence. I tipped him because I was concerned about the possibility of transportation difficulties for our early-morning departure, rather than because I felt entirely comfortable with how the arrangements had been handled. Would we recommend this company? Based on our experience, I would advise other travelers to consider alternative tour operators. In particular, I recommend obtaining written confirmation of every hotel, clarifying exactly which portions of the trip are guided, confirming the language capabilities of the driver and guides, and asking how substitutions will be handled before making payment. This is particularly important if, like us, you expect a fully guided experience and value having someone you can communicate with throughout the trip. It is unfortunate that this experience affected our overall impression of Morocco. Many of the people we met were warm, kind, and willing to help, and we saw other guides whose English was excellent and whose travelers appeared to be enjoying their tours. Our disappointment is therefore not with the people or the country as a whole, but with the service and communication provided by this particular tour operator. A well-organized tour should provide clear information, deliver what has been advertised, and address reasonable concerns professionally. Unfortunately, that was not our experience here. I hope this review helps other travelers ask the right questions and make a more informed choice.Show more

Our experiences we had on this tour are unforgettable for my family, and we saw all of the major sites of Morocco, took the time to enjoy the desert on camels, saw and touched wild monkeys, tasted delicious food, and slept in very comfortable and clean accomodation every night (complete with air conditioning, even in the desert). And we even had the opportunity to watch traditional music live!Show more
