    Catania to Milazzo

    Your guide will meet the group when you land in Catania, then you'll travel by coach to Milazzo on the Sicilian mainland. The drive gives you views of the Aeolian Islands across the water. You'll check into your hotel and settle in for the night.

    Milazzo to Lipari

    After breakfast, head to the port and take a ferry to Lipari, the main island of the Aeolian archipelago. A bus tour takes you around the island where you'll see the ruins of a Greek amphitheater, a Spanish fortress, and trompe l'oeil paintings in the old town. You'll check into your hotel for a 5-night stay.

  3. Day 3

    Alicudi - Filicudi

    Today you're traveling to Alicudi and Filicudi, the quieter islands in the Aeolian group. On Alicudi, you'll walk through steep hillside settlements and see how island life works where mules and donkeys are still the main transport. Then you'll go to Filicudi, the oldest of the seven islands, to check out Bronze Age archaeological sites and explore mysterious caves and grottos with great views. You'll return to Lipari by evening.

    Lipari to Salina

    Travel to Salina, called the 'Green Pearl' of the Aeolian Islands. A bus tour takes you to remote corners where you'll learn about the famous capers and see where the movie 'The Postman' was filmed. Later, there's an extensive Malvasia wine tasting and you'll try traditional Pane Cunzatu bread. You'll head back to Lipari in the evening.

    Lipari to Panarea to Stromboli

    You'll move to different accommodation and travel to Panarea, the most fashionable island in the archipelago. Walk through San Pietro village with its whitewashed houses and alleyways. There's an option to visit the Capo Milazzese archaeological site with 4,000-year-old settlements. Then you'll go to Stromboli, one of the world's most active volcanoes, and see its eruptions. Night viewing is best, when glowing lava shoots into the sky roughly every 15 minutes.

    Stromboli to Vulcano

    Take a boat to Vulcano, a volcanic island rising 391 meters from the sea with sparse settlement. You'll observe hot gas bubbles coming from sea crevices and sulphur seeping through crater cracks. Check out the colorful Faraglione rock formation near Porto Levante, the sulphurous mud holes, and the harbor. There's time to swim at one of the black sand beaches.

    Vulcano to Taormina to Catania

    Leave the Aeolian Islands and head back to mainland Sicily. Stop in Taormina for panoramic views and a visit to the Greco-Roman theater with Mount Etna in the distance. In the afternoon, explore Catania, known as the 'Milan of the south', and see the magnificent baroque facades. Walk through the cathedral square to see the 17th-century elephant fountain and town hall. You'll have time for shopping before gathering for a Sicilian farewell dinner and wine at a typical trattoria.
