    Land at Melbourne International Airport and head to your hotel to settle in. After dropping your bags, the rest of the day is yours to explore. Walk through the famous laneways hunting for hidden cafes and street art, or head to Federation Square, check out the Yarra River, browse Queen Victoria Market, or catch a tram to the Royal Botanic Gardens. How much you see depends on what you're in the mood for.

    Meet your small group at the Immigration Museum for a city tour covering Melbourne's key spots. You'll see Parliament House and the Treasury Building in Eastern Hill, then head down Collins Street's 'Paris End' before learning about the 1850s Gold Rush along the Golden Mile. Stop by Queen Victoria Market and Little Italy to check out the coffee scene, then move on to the Royal Botanic Gardens with the Ornamental Lake. After that, visit a major Australian Rules Football stadium, and finish the day at St Kilda to walk around Luna Park, the pier, and the Esplanade Hotel overlooking Port Phillip Bay.

    Fitzroy Island

    Leave Cairns Reef Fleet Terminal at 8:45am on an air-conditioned catamaran heading to Fitzroy Island, about 1 hour away. You'll have roughly 6.5 hours on this rainforest island to snorkel, take a glass bottom boat tour, walk self-guided rainforest trails, and explore beaches. There's restaurant and bar service on the island, plus equipment rentals available. Head back to Cairns at 5:00pm.
