  I could only give this itinerary a passable score. On day one, they messed up miserably by transferring me together with two others who arrived almost noontime, in spite of the fact that I arrived the previous night, specifically to avoid any delay in transfer. The driver does not know English and was a little bit rude at first. Even by their proposed pickup time(10:30am) and without any delay, it would be impossible to make it to the lunch at the lodge(12-1pm), as the drive would at least take 2 and half hours. So they are not very honest in this and did not communicate with me at all. The itinerary listed different activities, including horse riding, morning/afternoon/night walks and truck safari, but in fact many of them have more or less the same routes and there was not many animals to see, although I understand seeing them or not depends on many factors. On hindsight, I think one day less there would be even better. On the lodge side, the accomodations are basic but the environment is very quiet. What it lacks in accomodations, it makes up somewhat in food, which tend to be good when there are more guests staying. More consistency in quality is obviously desirable. Also, the lodge charges an Internet usage fee as a well as for even drinking water for meals. While I understand it is not an all-inclusive resort, charging everything it could possibly can looks pretty bad to me. After all, we have paid quite a sum for the trip and I believe they can already make a sizable profit.Show more

The variety of activities offered is designed to maximise opportunities for observation, although sightings can never be guaranteed. Regarding the lodge, as indicated in the itinerary, the accommodation is relatively simple and focuses on providing an authentic experience in the natural environment of the Pantanal rather than luxury facilities. Additional costs, including beverages and Wi-Fi where applicable, are also specified in the travel programme. We understand that the overall cost of your trip may have felt substantial. However, the Pantanal is one of Brazil's more expensive destinations, particularly due to the remote locations, logistics and specialised activities involved. The lodge selected offers a competitive price within the local market, and we believe the rates are consistent with the services provided and the destination's operating costs.   Great trip with a friendly and attentive staff. Identified 52 bird species that I had not previously seen in other parts of Brazil. Saw an anaconda, monkeys, giant otters, caimans, a tapir, and 7 jaguars. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and was able to recognize the jaguars by their spots and knew something about each one. Also saw dozens of capybaras.Show more

  The lodge seemed to be in a state of confusion. Tours were cancelled or rearranged. We rode a mule not a horse. Breakfast was removed an hour before it should have been. There were no animals on the walking tours and the night tour where you climbed a tower had lights at top which attracted mosquitos. Our friends were not on lists for tours and missed the best one of all..the jaguar tour. If it hadn't been for Arthur Calejon, an interpreter and all around helper, it would have been a total disaster. I would not recommend this particular lodge.Show more

I did try to contact you after receiving your review to better understand some of the points you raised, particularly as several of the situations described were not clear enough for us to investigate properly. Unfortunately, I never received a response. For example, the lodge has confirmed that breakfast is normally served from 7:00 to 9:30 a.m., so I would have liked to understand what happened in your particular case. Similarly, while wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed in such a natural environment, I would have appreciated more details about the walking tours in order to investigate your experience with the lodge. I was also particularly concerned by your comment that “our friends were not on lists for tours and missed the best one of all... the jaguar tour”. According to our records, you and your travel companion were correctly registered and took part in the jaguar excursion as planned, without experiencing any issue with the booking or access to the tour. This makes it particularly important for me to understand who you were referring to as “our friends”. If you were referring to other guests travelling with you, I would need more information about their booking and what happened to them before I could reasonably hold the lodge responsible for the situation. I completely respect your right to share your opinion, and I do not wish to dismiss your concerns. However, without further details or clarification, I am unfortunately unable to verify several of the incidents described or establish whether they concerned your own booking or other guests. As a travel operator, I take feedback seriously and always investigate issues with our local partners when something goes wrong. Tours were educational and guides could spot and identify animals/ birds/flora very quickly. Not convinced the transport met the demands of the terrain. Some amendments to trips may have been neccessary but not always explained in advance A small fridge in the room would have been beneficial. The Cuiaba hotel was average and in a far from salubrious part of town. However what an experience overall - another bucket list item ticked. Now I wonder what is like in the wet season!!Show more
