- CWChris· July 12th, 2025Overall we had an enjoyable experience. Very good accommodation and food and beverages first class. Negatives which there were a few. The brochure and itinerary indicated check in was from 4pm and we would set sail at 6pm. When we arrived we were informed check in was fact 6pm and we would set sail the following morning. We were woken at 05.30am by the sound of the engines. The barge encountered an engine problem and had to stop at Regua and we transferred to a small local ferry and we had to encounter over 2 hours of a very uncomfortable journey sitting on upright plastic chairs plus the toilet facilities were disgraceful and a very limited stock of refreshments Whilst we appreciate problems do occur when you are paying for a premium experience you expect a premium contingency not a ferry. The brochure / itinerary indicated “Important the trip does not accept children” yet our trip had 2 children. We love children but…..words and figures do not match. Asked on November 2nd, 2025My sister and I would like to bring our mother on this cruise for her 85th birthday. Her mobility is slightly reduced - she walks with a stick and can walk for about half an hour before needing a rest. Would she be able to manage the excursions? Also how steep are the stair between decks and the gangplank to the Spirit of Chartwell?
Portugal Travel CenterOperator•Written November 2025Regarding your mother's mobility, the cruise excursion includes a sightseeing component and short walks, so she should not have any issues. The Ship has steep stairs to access the sundeck, to access the cabins we have spiral stairs on this ship.

The dress code can be relaxed and comfortable for day activities and smart casual for evenings. The cabins aren't very big, but they have some storage places. The meeting point is Cais de Gaia at 6 pm. It's by the river, that's why there isn't a street name.
