Dear Jenny, Thank you for your honest feedback, and I'm truly sorry that your experience did not meet the standards we strive for. Gratuities are never mandatory on our tours, and it is absolutely not our policy for guides to suggest otherwise. What you described regarding the guide's comments on tips is unacceptable. We have received similar concerns from other guests on the same tour, and we are seriously considering letting this tour guide go. We do not make this decision lightly, but the behavior you described is not aligned with our values. We also hear your concerns about the level of guidance provided. Our tours are intended to offer meaningful context and historical insight at each stop, not just brief comments before independent exploration. It's clear we fell short here, especially with a group of your size and without audio support. We are reviewing our guiding protocols and equipment to improve this. Regarding the route and time spent on the bus, we appreciate you pointing this out. While we do our best to plan efficient itineraries, the extreme number of visitors during cherry blossom season often leads to unexpected road congestion and longer travel times, which can require us to adjust overnight stops and routing. That said, we recognize how frustrating the extra hours on the bus were, and we will re-examine the itinerary to better account for seasonal delays moving forward. We're grateful to hear that the bus driver provided excellent, respectful service, and that you felt safe and comfortable with him. We'll be sure he receives recognition for that. Thank you again for bringing these issues to light. Your feedback helps us improve for all future guests.

Dear Theotis, Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback about your recent trip. We're glad to hear that the overall experience was good and that you found the driver, as well as TourRadar's communication, to be excellent. However, we're genuinely sorry that several aspects of the tour did not meet your expectations. Your concerns are very valid, and we appreciate you bringing them to our attention. Please know that we take each point seriously. Itinerary changes & communication: We completely understand your frustration that the guide didn't explain the traffic-related changes upfront. Clear communication from the start would have set better expectations, and we'll address this with Henry and our guiding team. Hotel locations & distances: We're glad you found the locations of our hotels excellent overall. Regarding the one or two occasions where the hotel was two or more hours from the sites, that typically happens on transfer days—for example, when the group moves from Osaka to Nagoya. Because of the distance between cities, some travel time is unavoidable. However, we hear your frustration about the timeshare hotel with utilities turned off, and we will be reviewing that property immediately. Guiding quality & crowded locations: A guide should do far more than just drop the group off. That said, we do want to explain that this was the cherry blossom season in Japan, when popular sites are extremely crowded. In such conditions, our guides typically give detailed introductions and historical context before arriving at an attraction, then drop the group off to explore individually. This is done to avoid the difficulty of navigating a group of 26 through packed areas where it's easy to lose people. However, we hear your feedback that this approach left you wanting more on-site guidance, and we will work on striking a better balance. Short visit times: Being given only 15–20 minutes at a location is not acceptable, and we will review the pacing of this itinerary. Meal arrangements: We also understand your disappointment about not being taken to a restaurant as a group. Please keep in mind that during cherry blossom season, restaurants are extremely crowded and often cannot accommodate a large group without weeks of advance booking. That said, we should have set clearer expectations about meal arrangements beforehand rather than simply directing you to a busy street. We'll improve on this. Tipping approach: Tipping should never feel awkward or pressured. Asking for tips three days in and making comments about not tipping the driver is inappropriate. We will be reinforcing our tipping guidelines with all guides. We also hear your reflection that "you get what you pay for." While we strive to offer value at every price point, we never want a guest to leave wishing they had paid more for a better experience. That's a clear signal that we fell short. We want to thank you again for join our Splendid Japan tour. And our team will discuss the issues you mentioned internally and make necessary adjustments on our operations. We wish you a cheerful and fruitful 2026!

Dear Jodi, Thank you for taking the time to write such detailed feedback. I’m truly sorry to hear that your 8-day Splendid Japan tour did not meet your expectations, especially as this was your second trip with TourRadar. I’ve read your comments carefully, and I want to address several specific issues you raised. 1. Pre-trip communication I completely understand your feeling that communication was lacking. That said, I did check our records: we sent you a welcome email, tour status reports, and final documents (including confirmed itinerary, local guide and manager contact info, arrival instructions) both by email and via the TourRadar platform. It seems these may not have reached you or may have been overlooked. I sincerely apologize for that gap — we will review how we can make important information more visible and harder to miss in the future. 2. Rushed itinerary and lack of free time I hear you clearly — long bus rides, hotel-hopping, cramped seats, no time for vendor booths or photos, and being rushed through sites. You are right that the 8-day tour tries to cover many iconic sites in a short time, and for some guests that pace is too much. If you ever consider traveling with us again, I would strongly recommend our 14-day Panoramic Japan tour. It is designed for a slower, more relaxed pace — fewer hotel changes, more free time at each destination, and a much better fit if you want to actually experience local culture rather than just see sights from a bus. 3. Toilet on the bus You mentioned being told there would be a restroom on the charter bus, but there was not. I apologize for that incorrect information. Most tour buses in Japan do not have toilets, but that should have been clearly stated to you before the trip. We will correct this in our materials moving forward. I am very sorry that this experience has led you to say you will not consider TourRadar again. That is not the outcome we want for any guest. Your feedback will be shared with our local team in Japan and discussed internally. Thank you again for being so honest — it truly helps us improve. Warm regards, Peter

The Shibuya crossing isn't included. Here is what we will do in Tokyo: You'll start the Tokyo One Day City Tour at Meiji Shrine from 9:00-10:00am. From 10:30am-1:00pm, you'll browse fashionable Omote Sando and Takeshita Dori. At 2:00-3:30pm, you'll visit a secret Japanese traditional rock garden. Tokyo Tower comes next from 4:00-5:00pm with admission included. Free time from 5:30-6:30pm lets you explore Shinjuku Kabukicho's colorful nightlife. Note that the schedule may change due to weather or traffic.

Do you assist with booking the bullet train if we elect to travel from Tokyo to Osaka?

    • Stunning ToursOperatorWritten March 2026

Regarding the bullet train from Tokyo to Osaka, we generally do not assist with those bookings directly. Most of our clients find it very convenient to purchase their tickets at the station or through the official Smart EX service. The trains run every few minutes, so there is usually no trouble securing a seat. If you'd like, I can provide a quick guide on how to navigate the ticket machines at the station once you arrive!

Can you confirm that we are staying the first night of the tour at Star Gate Hotel Kansai?

      Esther

      TravelerWritten March 2026

I've read several reviews that indicate the hotels selected, including Star Gate, has stained and dusty carpet, evidence of mold or lack of cleanliness esp in bathrooms. I'm a bit concerned as I'm very allergic to dust, mold, and certain dander. Can you confirm if recent renovations addressed these issues? Or what preparation and screening does Stunning Tours do to mitigate this?

    • Stunning ToursOperatorWritten March 2026

We work with carefully selected hotels, including Star Gate Hotel Kansai Airport, and maintain long-standing partnerships with them. While occasional online reviews can reflect isolated experiences, we have not received consistent or recent feedback from our guests indicating widespread cleanliness or maintenance issues. Japanese hotels generally follow high housekeeping standards, with regular cleaning and inspections. If there are ever any issues, they are typically addressed promptly by the hotel staff. Given your allergies, we would be happy to note your request for a well-cleaned, non-smoking room on a higher floor, which can sometimes help minimize dust exposure. While we cannot guarantee specific room conditions, hotels do their best to accommodate such requests.

    • E

      Esther

      TravelerWritten March 2026

Could these requests be applied to all hotels on the itinerary, where possible: Non-smoking rooms, Thoroughly cleaned, dust-free rooms, Rooms on higher floors, Twin beds?

    • Stunning ToursOperatorWritten March 2026

We're pleased to confirm that all rooms we use are non-smoking, and we can certainly arrange twin beds for your stay. We will also note your preference for higher floor rooms; however, please kindly understand that this remains a request only and is subject to hotel availability at the time of check-in, so we are unable to guarantee it. Regarding 'thoroughly cleaned and dust-free' rooms, while all our partner hotels maintain professional housekeeping standards, it is difficult to define or guarantee a completely dust-free environment, as this can vary depending on individual sensitivity and hotel conditions. That said, we will absolutely pass along your request so hotels can take extra care where possible.

In regards to the second and third day in Osaka, will we be staying by Hotel Sobial Namba Daikokucho? Can the Hiroshima add on be paid online when the tour is booked? And what is the minimum recommended cash to walk with for two people?

    • Stunning ToursOperatorWritten March 2026

Please find the full confirmed hotel list here: Star Gate Hotel Kansai Airport, Shizutetsu Hotel Prezio Osaka Shinsaibashi, Comfort Hotel Nagoya Meiekiminami, Mercure Nagano Matsushiro Resort & Spa, Hotel Villa Fontaine Grand Haneda. The Hiroshima tour needs to be paid on site in Japan. But credit cards are okay. Credit cards are actually good for most scenario. I would say 10000 yen is enough for each person just in case. The tips for the guide can by paid in USD(not mandatory).

We do not provide wheelchair services directly as part of the tour. However, wheelchairs can be easily rented in Japan, and many train stations, sightseeing sites, and some hotels also have complimentary wheelchairs available for temporary use.

Here are a few reputable companies that offer wheelchair rentals for travelers in Japan:
Tokyo Wheelchair – rentals starting from about $15 per day, with delivery to hotels and airports across Japan.
Osaka Wheelchair – similar service with hotel delivery and nationwide shipping options for travelers visiting multiple cities.
NGT Care Rental – offers manual and electric wheelchairs and can arrange delivery to hotels in major cities.
Many rental companies can deliver the wheelchair directly to the hotel and arrange pickup after the trip, which makes it quite convenient for visitors.
If you prefer, you may also consider bringing a lightweight foldable wheelchair, which can typically be accommodated on the tour coach.

We actually don't have flight booking options. When you check the flights, please use Kansai Airport as the starting airport and Haneda Airport/Narita Airport as the departing airport.

I'm looking for a tour of smaller more cultural areas off the main tourist areas. Don't want 4 days of Tokyo sightseeing. Do u have suggestions?

    Tour Details
    • Stunning ToursOperatorWritten February 2026

If you're more interested in smaller, cultural areas and less time in big cities, we actually recommend focusing on regional Japan rather than extended Tokyo sightseeing. Many of our itineraries are designed with exactly that in mind, balancing local towns, historic districts, and scenic countryside with just enough time in major cities for orientation. For example, instead of spending several days in Tokyo, we often include:

Takayama – a beautifully preserved old town with traditional streets and local markets
Kanazawa – known for its historic samurai and geisha districts and one of Japan's most authentic gardens
Hakone or Kawaguchiko – for nature, hot springs, and Mt. Fuji views
Kyoto – focused more on temples, neighborhoods, and cultural experiences rather than city sightseeing

Nara or small towns near Osaka/Kyoto – quieter, very traditional, and rich in history
