Take the trip! Transylvania is gorgeous, and my only regret is not staying longer. Charlie is a great tour guide. He was knowledgeable, personable, and funny. You'll see medieval towns, castles, and the mountains. It was very peaceful, and the local cuisine is delicious. It's like no place I've ever been. Highly recommend. My only caveat is that American travelers will want to work out their flights and check in with the tour company to make sure it works for that week. Only one transport to and from the airport is covered by the tour cost. We ended up having to pay extra because our flights didn't line up with the other travelers, but it was a reasonable expense. Flights to and from Bucharest seem to get canceled and changed often. That being said, the trip was 100% worth it, and the tour company found us reliable transport.Show more

This was the best private tour we've ever had! We signed up for a 5-day private tour of Romania with pickup and drop-off in Bucharest. Coordinating and planning with the tour operator (Active Travel) was straightforward and easy. We provided a list of our preferred destinations and the tour operator quickly put together an itinerary. We made a few tweaks and within only a few days from initial contact we were booked. In Romania, we were provided the perfect guide for the excursion. He (Charlie) arrived early to our hotel lobby and met us there as prearranged. He was immediately interesting and accommodating. Throughout our five days together our guide was educational and delightful. He was an excellent host for Romania.   Is there any winery visit and tasting for my info - at least either during within 1st 2 days? Romania as a whole is a major wine producer (one of Europe's oldest traditions, over 6,000 years), ranking among the top in Europe. The capital serves as an excellent base for wine experiences. The nearby Dealu Mare region (about 1–2 hours' drive north, often called Romania's "Napa Valley") is renowned for high-quality reds (like Fetească Neagră) and some whites. Many visitors combine a Bucharest city break with day-trip wine tastings at estates like Lacerta, Budureasca, or Știrbey. Wine bars in the Old Town also offer excellent Romanian tastings.

  In the morning, we'll have the panoramic tour of Bucharest by bus with an inside visit at the Patliament Palace and Ceausescu Mansion. Next you'll have free time for lunch in the Old Town followed by a ride of 1hour 30 min until Lacerta Winery, one of the most famous in Romania. Upon atrival, you'll visit the wine cellar, seeing the barique barrels and hear the explanation of making the wine followed by a wine-tasting of 6 sorts of wine with a gourmand platter. In the end you return back to the hotel in Bucharest.
