Our cycling tours work perfectly in April and May - you'll cover between 34 and 55km daily through forests coming back to life and genuine village communities. A lot of travelers pick our combined tours that connect Bucharest's architectural gems with medieval towns like Brasov, Sighisoara and also Sibiu. The mild weather makes it ideal for walking through UNESCO sites and fortified churches, plus you can watch local craftsmen at work in places like Viscri. Since it's just before peak season, you'll find good deals and plenty of space at our favorite family guesthouses and boutique hotels.

    Fall brings out Transylvania's character with medieval towns framed by the Carpathians' autumn colors. Our travelers often join in with harvest activities in the villages - helping collect grapes for wine or preparing traditional winter preserves with local families. The cultural visits get special touches this time of year with private access to historic buildings, tastings in ancient wine cellars and visits to working artisan workshops. You'll see lots of traditional craft demonstrations at the ASTRA Village Museum, and our guests tell us how much they enjoy exploring Sighisoara's winding cobbled streets and climbing castle towers surrounded by fall foliage.

    Winter really shines for cultural touring in Transylvania when the big crowds thin out. Our small groups get to explore Peles Castle, Bran Castle and other sites with much more space to themselves. The medieval towns look particularly good with a dusting of snow - you'll get excellent photos in Brasov's Council Square and walking across Sibiu's Bridge of Lies. Many of our travelers tell us how the Gothic chambers of Bran Castle feel properly atmospheric in winter, especially during our private after-hours visits when you practically have the whole place to yourself. The early sunsets and crisp air really add to that mysterious castle mood.
