Will this tour (Highlights of Madagascar) be offered beginning on April 12? I saw "Departure on Request" listed and I'm not sure what this means

The tour availability would have to be requested. G Adventures has a certain number of rooms and services that are allocated toward every single departure for the groups we book. When we are within our late request period, it means we have released the spaces we are holding for the group back to our suppliers, because we didn't fill the space as anticipated to avoid a penalty. This allows the hotels/services to sell the space to other operators/agents/individuals as requested. In order to request confirmation of the tour, we requires the full payment and your acknowledgement that you agree to these terms, then sends the request to our local office to try and add you to the departure(s). It generally takes 2-4 business days to receive a response (though it can take 5-10 business days for Japan, Europe, Turkey and Roamies trips). If space is available, you will be booked and confirmed on the tour(s), if space is not available, then we can look at alternative tours/dates, or Tour Radar will issue a full refund if nothing else works for you. During this time we recommend holding off on booking flights until the trip is confirmed, as most airlines have steep cancellation/change penalties.

I can see on the intinary that there's travel in between places via flight, but then later on it says flights not included. Please can you confirm if the flights listed on the intinary are included or not?

The internal flight from Antananarivo to Ifaty is included in the itinerary and booked and included in the tour cost. Flights to and from the start and end locations of the tour are not included in the tour cost and need to be purchased by you.

Is there a single supplement?

Yes we do offer My Own Room for this tour. It is limited if you know which date you are interested we can see if it is still available.

May you please provide me a discount for the price, can we get the tour at $2199 US same for the price for some other dates? Also, As per the itinerary, guests are entitled to only have lunch, may you please advise where they can buy their meals? Is there any restaurant near to the booked hotel? How much it would cost them roughly for the meals per day?

Our October 2026 dates are not currently on sale, so the prices will be as advertised. Where food is not included, the CEO guide will assist in buying food with the group, generally in local restaurants, markets etc. Everyone spends money differently so we don't have a specific guideline for spending money, however an emergency fund of around $200 is recommended. It's always best to over budget so $100 a day should be sufficient.

There is only ONE meal included?

Meals Included 1 lunch. When meals are not included, your hotel will have a restaurant or you will be advised of a good local establishment. Part of the excitement of a G Adventures trip is the ability to try local dishes when possible. This also gives you more budgeting flexibility, though generally, food is not expensive. Our groups tend to eat together to enable you to taste a larger variety of dishes and enjoy each other's company. There is no obligation to do this though, and you may choose to explore some local restaurants on your own or with your travel companion(s).

how do i book the Antananarivo to Ifaty plane ticket? how close to the date form when the tour has been confirmed should i book the flight for?

I'd like to take the Highlights of Madagascar tour, leaving on June 22. Is it a guaranteed departure? Also, I'm traveling alone. Is it possible to have my own room? How much is the additional cost?

This tour is a guaranteed departure for those that are already booked onto it, however spaces are now on request. This means that our local office must check availability on all components, such as hotels and activities - this generally takes 3-5 working days to confirm. The single supplement is an additional $619 however there is no availability for this, so we would also have to make a special request to secure it. It would not be guaranteed.

Can I book additional services like airport transfers?

Yes, once your flights are booked, you can request additional pre or post nights, a single room supplement, optional activities, and airport transfers if available for the tour.

What happens if the tour I'm interested in is on request?

If the tour is on request, booking is not confirmed until notification from our local operations team. It generally takes 2-3 business days to receive a response.

do you have any openings in tours to Japan early March?

Madagascar is an amazing country to explore. The planeterra project is amazing and I loved my G for good moment. As well what they are planning to do for the kids in Ranohira is just amazing. The driver and the guide were both great. These are the reasons this tour made it to 3 stars. All the rest needs to be improved. The itinerary needs an update of the driving hours and the must have equipment. Hicking boots should be a must and gloves that do cover the hand palms should be compulsory. We did mostly walk out of paths and we had to touch a lot of trees in order to go up and down in the forest, Many of us were bitten by unknow insects while holding on trunks. And no, we had no other options than to grab for a tree trunk to be able to go up or don't fall down. I am absolutely fine with simple hotels and hostels but on this tour something really went wrong. It felt like the hotels were giving the GAdventure clients for granted and did not put any effort in welcoming us. Maybe it was because it was the end of the season and they felt like there was no point in fixing broken items or cleaning. Not working showers, leaking sinks, missing mosquito nets, mosquito nets with holes or very dirty, dirty towels, clogged drains, a collection of dead bugs under the bed or items forgotten by previous guests, not closing toilet doors (with not closing I mean that the door was there but there was nothing to fix it and we slept with a wide open door. I don't mind sharing a room with someone I don't know but I do expect to have a toilet door.) All of it? Unfortunately not. During the first dinner at the hotel money was taken out of my bag. In the last hotel we had bed bugs. My roommate got a skin infection that had to be treated with antibiotics, the doctor confirmed that the bed bugs must have had contact with an infected animal. Half of the group had diarrhea during the homestay. You urgently need to give them a food & water safety lesson. A bucket of water used to wash hands after using the toilets was used as drinking water. We were touching the water with our dirty hand to scoop the water out and they were using the same scoop and the same water for drinking. It takes time to boil water on fire and just heat it up does not kill bacteria. The water needs to boil to be safe but the coffee and tea they were serving were never boiling hot. I was cooling down my feet after I got burned and the owner got mad at me telling me that they drink out of the scoop I was using. I could not have imagined that they would drink out of a bucket with a scoop that everyone was using to wash hands after going to toilet. The owner of the hostel / homestay did beg for money in a penetrating way. I was glad to leave from that place after he clearly said that he needs the money for a second building to expand the hostel to be able to have more guests. He said so many things that did not correspond to what seemed to happen in the village.As he said that his grandmother is 120 year old I was kind of done.Show more

Overall was a good tour ! Just read well ! You will not see the baobab avenue! There only 3 meals inc'ude in all the tour so its add on the budget !!! The restaureant we went were kind of expansive ! ( still ok for sure but if you were tight on a budget it male a big difference) Otherwise i really enjoy my tour and the time spend in the home stay this is the real higtlight of the tour for me ! The ceo was nice and the driver amazingly good we all feel really safe ! Most of the activity are walking tour ! So if you dont like to walk this is not for you ! But you will see a lot of lemurs! most hotels only have one power outlet so provide a double usb port. I loved my tour and can recommand it for sure !Show more

We spendet too much time in the bus, so that we practicaly didnt see the cities we arrived. It would be may be a good Idia to start early in order to be able to explore on ouer selbst a little bit. We also headed only to the Restaurants in the Hotels. I was missing the experience of eating out for dinner (exception 1 night in Ifaty and the farewell dinner in Tana). Our CEO was a nice person and hat the potential of becomming a good guide. Though he was very unexperienced. I think G-Adventures should invest a bit of time or respurces couching the CEOs before they get the responsobility of leading a Group.Show more

Madagascar was so so much more than I imagined. It wouldn't have been the same though without Rhiana our guide who is an absolute credit to G. The wildlife on this island is like nowhere else, standing underneath Indri calling is a sound that took our breathe away. Drive days were very long consider adding an extra hour or 2 to long drives due to conditions. As a Jane Goodall tour perhaps some of the main park walks should have been included rather than extra, but if you want to see wildlife each walk is worth putting your boots on for (you do want to have boots or very sturdy shoes)Show more

  It's not possible to visit the Baobab Alley on this tour. It's about 10/11 hours' drive from Antsirabe which is the nearest town on this trip. If your clients would like to visit the Alley we suggest to arrive a couple of days before or leave a couple of days after the tour and to fly there (at least one way and the other way for example you can road trip for 2/3 days back to the capital).

  This tour is a guaranteed departure for those that are already booked onto it, however spaces are now on request. This means that our local office must check availability on all components, such as hotels and activities - this generally takes 3-5 working days to confirm. The single supplement is an additional $619 however there is no availability for this, so we would also have to make a special request to secure it. It would not be guaranteed.

Payment information
- For any tour departing before June 23rd, 2026 a full payment is necessary. For tours departing after June 23rd, 2026, a minimum payment of 20% is required to confirm your booking with G Adventures. The final payment will be automatically charged to your credit card on the designated due date. The final payment of the remaining balance is required at least 45 days prior to the departure date of your tour. TourRadar never charges you a booking fee and will charge you in the stated currency.
- Some departure dates and prices may vary and G Adventures will contact you with any discrepancies before your booking is confirmed.
- The following cards are accepted for "G Adventures" tours: Visa, Maestro, Mastercard, American Express or PayPal. TourRadar does NOT charge you an extra fee for using any of these payment methods.
