  I went on this tour with great expectations as it was labeled as Premium. Well, would challenge that statement. Although Uzbekistan is premium destinations ( stunning beauty), the tour itself was only partially premium. Premium: small group of wonderful individuals ( 10 in total), great guide Tulkinjon, very good hotel in Tashkent, relatively good hotel in Samarqand ( although none was exceptional - all standard for other groups staying there), very good buses ( very comfortable one for the long trip to Khiva), comfortable transfers by train and plane ( although it is actually what majority of tours have and you might argue that premium should not be in economy class for the train). Not so premium: Hotels in Buchara and Khiva- although centrally located, both ware not so premium (Buchara hotel was better one), rather basic, dark, not very clean, would rate them as max 3 stars European . Breakfasts only in Tashkent and Samarkand were good, other places - not so good. All hotels we stayed as rather cheap in European standards ( check booking.com prices of 60/70 euros per night for single room in Buchara and Khiva,; the best in Tashkent I paid for last night 80 euro) but charged to us as really luxurious hotels as part of this package. Although I understand both tour agents ( local and Intrepid) need to make money, it is a bit too much in my view. And not a reason to call the whole tour “ premium”. Dinners/ lunches - although you might have an impression the tour provides a lot of included options - it is not. Two options are home cooking . Might sound great and interesting but it was quite basic and … not so interesting to us. The welcoming dinner was in nice restaurant house, the last one was changed to lunch in nice but not great restaurant in Tashkent. That was all for the tour. Other food options our guide was including in agenda and usually paid meals and places were great. So , do not expect to eat well on this tour if you rely only on included options. Agenda- all covered, a lot of free time. Would be nice if guide is proactively informing on details of agenda for next 1/2 days ( outfit for wether and visiting venues like mosques). First and last day - nothing really on agenda. End of the trip in Tashkent - a bit if wasted time , should be clearly stated that there will be almost nothing ( lunch) .   Loved the Uzbekistan tour! It was well organized, and the tour group size was just right. Lochin Juraev was an excellent guide and we had a wonderful experience visiting Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva to learn about the rich history of the country. Some suggestions: The hotel choices were good to excellent, and were located well. The madrasa stay in Khiva, while interesting to experience, had tight quarters for two people. We enjoyed the food and the marvelous fruit/produce. We did note that the food choices are somewhat limited for people who are vegetarians. A quicker way to get to either Bukhara or Khiva (rather than via long bus rides) would have given us more time in these two historical gems. Also, allocation of some down time to wander around in the historical areas/ do shopping would enhance the overall experience!Show more
