Mals
You'll arrive in Mals and check into your 3-star hotel or inn. The town itself is worth exploring, with quiet alleyways and old towers scattered throughout. Mals sits in South Tyrol's sunniest valley, so take some time to wander around and get your bearings before settling in for the night.

Mals
Start early on the Waal path hiking toward Matsch, a small mountaineering village set higher in the valley. You'll pass watercourses and see old castle ruins along the way. Later, continue on the Leitenwaal trail to reach the prehistoric excavation site at Ganglegg. In the afternoon, head to Sluderno and check out Churburg castle, which is one of South Tyrol's best-preserved fortifications.

Begin the day in Glurns, the Alps' smallest town, then travel to Stelvio National Park. You'll hike through an old-growth spruce forest and pass a wooden xylophone nature experience before reaching Taufers mountain resort. After that, take a short hike across into Switzerland to visit the UNESCO-listed Müstair Monastery.

This is the week's main hiking day. Climb past traditional mountain farms up to Tellajoch, where you'll reach a viewing platform with 360-degree views across the valleys. Then descend to Slingia and grab a short bus ride to Burgusio. If you prefer something shorter, there's an easier 'hour trail' route through Schleis village.

Take it easier today with a rest day or choose a circular hike around Schliniger Alm toward a rushing waterfall. The rustic Sesvenna hut is a good lunch stop before you check out Watles adventure mountain. End the day by taking the chairlift back down into the valley rather than hiking the full descent.

Mals
Hike from Prämajur through shaded forest to Bruggeralm, where you'll taste traditional Venosta specialties. The descent to Plag ött gives you views of the Ortles glacier, then continue on to St. Valentin. Before finishing, take a walk around Haidersee lake to enjoy the water and surrounding landscape.

Mals
Cross the Malser Haide, the Alps' largest alluvial cone, walking through meadows filled with wildflowers and past quiet farmsteads. You're heading up to Planeil, a small village set back in the mountains. The Punibach stream runs alongside parts of the route, and you'll have views down into the valley. A short bus ride brings you back down to Mals to finish.

Departure
