  A Fabulous way to explore an amazing Country. Our guide Beverly was fantastic and we could not have asked for better. We saw Pygmy Elephants and Orangutans in the wild which is something I will never forget. Great value and an unforgettable trip.Show more

  My first trip in a non developed country and I was not ready for the abject poverty. The tour was wonderful - all the issues I had were me and my total lack of preparation for the way animals are treated (dogs and cats). The filth and rubbish that is just a part of the country and the water ways including the ocean was more than I was able to process. The lack of effort to clean rooms to a high standard, and the garbage on the beaches was heartbreaking. If you are used to 3rd world destinations you will be fine. It was very cheap and cheerful. Amazing tour guide and group. Very cheap to eat and shop. Overall a wonderful experience. I would not have rated this a comfort tour compared to other intrepid tours I have done. It was a lot more walking and a lot more basic than I was expecting. Again that was about me and not the tour. I chose to not do several activities as they were too physically strenuous for this overweight older woman. And I thought I was prepared for the heat and the bugs - I WASN’T. Sooooo humid. I would suggest it is not suitable for anyone who doesn’t have a good level of fitness and it is a basic and not comfort tour.Show more

We also really appreciate your honesty about some of the challenges you experienced. Borneo can feel very different to other destinations, and things like the humidity, local conditions and simpler accommodation can be a big adjustment, especially for first-time travellers in the region. We do our best to prepare travellers for this in our trip information, as our Classic Borneo itinerary includes a mix of standard hotels and jungle lodges. While they can be more basic in places, staying in these locations helps support local communities and gives travellers the chance to experience Borneo’s wildlife and nature up close, and your photos capture some of those moments beautifully. Your feedback about expectations, fitness and comfort will be really useful for others considering this trip, and we’re grateful you took the time to share both the highlights and the tougher moments.   This was an excellent tour touching on the culture and wildlife of Malaysian Borneo. It was made all the more special due to a very cool group of people and the efforts of our excellent tour guide Beverly. In addition to being an incredibly nice person, she is extremely knowledgeable as to the history and culture of Borneo as well as it's animals and birds.   The 10 day Classic Borneo trip was everything I had hoped for. Our tour leader Stephanie Kam was superb and I saw Orangutans, proboscis monkeys, macaques, silver leaf langurs, pygmy elephants, crocodiles, and snakes. Very happy and would definitely recommend.Show more

  I booked this tour a month in advance and received a confirmation email a few days later. I sent a couple messages...
  I booked this tour a month in advance and received a confirmation email a few days later. I sent a couple messages throughout the month to intrepid, but never received any reply. A few days before my tour I still hadn’t received any information and had to contact tour radar who told me not to worry. The day before the tour I still received no word. I called tour radar and had to spend hours on hold trying to get ahold of someone to speak with who eventually escalated the case. I was finally contacted the night before my tour by intrepid telling me I was never on this tour despite me receiving a confirmation email and being charged. I was pretty furious because I already flew to Malaysia at this point. I ended up still going to Kota Kinabalu, rented a car, and was able to replicate the tour at half the price. When you fly into the city there are others selling the exact same tours and venders you can book directly with. I’m not sure who’s fault this was that caused this mess up but be careful when booking. Even if you’re confirmed you may not actually be on the tour.Show more

We have reviewed over your booking and can see there was a miscommunication advising that you the tour was confirmed and then being advised that it was on request. Which unfortunately our local operator was unable to confirm the tour for you in the end. We have followed up with TourRadar and can see they were able to process and provide you with a full refund for not providing you with the service. Despite all this, we are glad that you were able to travel through Borneo and see this beautiful part of the world. We are sincerely sorry that it wasn't us that got to show you around. Ashley, while we understand it is too late to change your experience. We would like to reassure you that your experience has been escalated with both TourRadar and us at Intrepid to review and ensure this doesn't happen.

  The tour leader was very good. The itinerary was good as well however I felt like had a bit too much down time, especially at Manukan island. If you, like me, like to have a very full itinerary then you may not like this itinerary as much. But if you like an easy itinerary then this is trip for you.Show more
