10 Day Borneo Itinerary, incl. Kota Kinabalu and Sepilok
Malaysian wildlife tour spans 6 destinations from Kota Kinabalu over 10 days. Highlights feature orangutan viewing at Sepilok, wildlife cruises on Kinabatangan River, cultural immersion in Kiulu Valley villages, and snorkeling at Pandan Pandan Island. Accommodations vary from jungle lodges to traditional bamboo huts.

- Days 1-2
Kota Kinabalu & Kiulu Valley
Begin your journey in Kota Kinabalu, the bustling capital of Sabah. Spend your first day exploring local markets and the Sabah Museum. On day two, venture to Kiulu Valley for village walks and local culture. "The homestay in the traditional bamboo hut was incredible – falling asleep to jungle sounds is unforgettable." The jungle humidity is strong, so pack clothes that dry quickly.

- Days 3-4
Kundasang & Sepilok
Take a trek through Kiulu to reach Kundasang near Mount Kinabalu. Next, head to Sepilok to visit the Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. The Rainforest Discovery Centre offers a 28m-high canopy walk. Get there by 4pm to spot flying squirrels and slow lorises on the night walk. You'll sleep in a jungle lodge right in the rainforest.

- Days 5-6
Kinabatangan River
This is where you'll see the most wildlife. Go on several river cruises to look for wild orangutans, proboscis monkeys and maybe even pygmy elephants. One visitor wrote: "We saw not one but eight orangutans in the wild!" Tip: Bring binoculars and stay quiet during early morning cruises for the best wildlife viewing.

- Days 7-8
Usukan Cove & Island Hopping
- Days 9-10
Kota Kinabalu
10 Days in Malaysia, incl. Kuala Lumpur and Penang
Malaysian tour links 5 major cities: Kuala Lumpur, Malacca, Taman Negara, Cameron Highlands, and Penang over 10 days. Luxurious stays include 9 nights in premium hotels, featuring 5-star Ramada Plaza Malacca and Parkroyal Collection Kuala Lumpur.

- Days 1-2
Malacca and Kuala Lumpur
Start your journey in historic Malacca, just 2 hours from KL airport. A local traveler shares: "The local guide timed our Malacca River cruise perfectly for sunset, when the old shophouses cast beautiful reflections on the water." Visit Cheng Hoon Teng Temple early morning before tourist crowds arrive. Explore Jonker Street in late afternoon when temperatures cool down. Head back to KL for your overnight stay.

- Day 3
Kuala Lumpur
- Days 4-5
Taman Negara
Getting here takes time: a 2.5-hour drive plus a 3-hour boat ride. Consider motion sickness pills if needed. You'll need leech socks for jungle walks and quick-dry clothes. The canopy walkway is spectacular but can be intimidating. Visit early for fewer people and cooler temps. A recent visitor noted: "The night jungle walk was a highlight. Our guide spotted sleeping birds and fluorescent fungi I would have missed completely."

- Days 6-7
Cameron Highlands
The 4-hour mountain drive brings you to cooler temperatures. Pack a light jacket. Visit BOH Tea Plantation first thing in the morning (closed Mondays) before clouds appear. Wear proper hiking shoes for the slippery Mossy Forest trails. Schedule strawberry farm visits for afternoon when skies are usually clearer.

- Days 8-10
Penang
Stop at Kek Look Tong Temple during your drive from Cameron Highlands. In George Town, photograph the street art early before crowds form. A traveler suggests: "Take the first funicular up Penang Hill around 9AM—the queue gets crazy by mid-morning and the heat can be intense." Experience the famous hawker centers in the evening when they come alive.

10 Day Malaysian Borneo Itinerary, incl. Kota Kinabalu and Danum Valley
Wildlife enthusiasts will find paradise on this 10-day tour visiting Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, and Sepilok. The route includes UNESCO Kinabalu Park, Danum Valley, and Kinabatangan River. Luxury accommodations feature Borneo Rainforest Lodge and Shangri-La Rasa Ria Resort.

- Day 1
Kota Kinabalu Arrival
Fly into Kota Kinabalu (KK) in the morning to make the most of your first day. The airport is just 15 minutes from downtown, but try to avoid traveling after 4 PM when traffic gets heavy. Stop by the City Mosque in late afternoon to see it beautifully reflected in the lagoon. You can also get some great photos of the unique cylindrical Tun Mustapha Tower.

- Day 2
Kinabalu National Park
Take the 2-hour drive to UNESCO-listed Kinabalu National Park. Get there early since morning fog usually lifts by 9 AM, giving you clear views of Mount Kinabalu. The canopy walkway requires some steep climbing, so be prepared for a workout. The boardwalks can get slippery from humidity, so good hiking shoes are essential.

- Day 3
Sepilok Transfer
- Day 4
Orangutan & River Adventure
Start at the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Center. While there are feeding sessions at 10 AM and 3 PM, the morning session usually has more orangutan sightings. One visitor shared: "The evening river cruise was magical - we saw wild orangutans making nests and proboscis monkeys jumping through the trees. Bring binoculars!"

What people love about 10-day Malaysia tours
- Real Borneo
Awesome adveturous tour. Includes jungle stay (pic above) where we went spotlighting wildlife at night, slept in a tree house, planted trees for reforestation and went out on the river to look for monkeys and orangutangs along the river banks. We also did a homestay. Due to the earth quake this year we couldnt climb kinabalu but we still did a very challenging trek through cave systems in the junlge and by doing this Geckos were making sure hte mountain guides weren't out of work while the mountain trails were repaired. Our guide was so knowledgable having grown up in the jungle since the age of 4. The country is full of wildlife, the people are friendly and the place is non touristy. Meals and beer were cheap. wifi in the country is dodgy. I would definately go back to see the other half of the country one day... My tip pack lots of quick dry sports clothing because the jungle is HOT! Our group was a good mix of international people, all young, fit, active and most importantly easy going!
- City to Serenity: 9-Day Malaysian Discovery
The tours each day were varied and interesting and the guides were all knowledgeable and helpful particularly Stephen and Charlie. The admin team were great and dealt with any issues effectively and communications were helpful with admin and drivers providing name , numberplate and timings every trip. The hotel was clean but not 4 star, the breakfasts were only indian choices or toast and cereal, the reception staff were unfriendly and unhelpful plus the hotel was out the way and hard for drivers to park.
- Classic Borneo
My first trip in a non developed country and I was not ready for the abject poverty. The tour was wonderful - all the issues I had were me and my total lack of preparation for the way animals are treated (dogs and cats). The filth and rubbish that is just a part of the country and the water ways including the ocean was more than I was able to process. The lack of effort to clean rooms to a high standard, and the garbage on the beaches was heartbreaking. If you are used to 3rd world destinations you will be fine. It was very cheap and cheerful. Amazing tour guide and group. Very cheap to eat and shop. Overall a wonderful experience. I would not have rated this a comfort tour compared to other intrepid tours I have done. It was a lot more walking and a lot more basic than I was expecting. Again that was about me and not the tour. I chose to not do several activities as they were too physically strenuous for this overweight older woman. And I thought I was prepared for the heat and the bugs - I WASN’T. Sooooo humid. I would suggest it is not suitable for anyone who doesn’t have a good level of fitness and it is a basic and not comfort tour.
