It does not look like there are good flights from Toronto to San Jose, Costa Rica. Is it possible to fly into San Jose and out from Liberia?

While the activities come with guides in both English and Spanish, a guide who accompanies you throughout the entire journey is not included. We are seniors, aging from 66 - 75. Is this tour strenuous for this age category or are most activities light to moderate? On day 10 it says a 4.5 hour drive to airport and arrives approximately 12 PM. If international flight departs at 3 PM, would we be there in time or would it be better to spend an additional night in San Jose prior to departure? If extra night, what would the additional cost be and would the transfer to the airport still be included? Also, how much would the hotel cost if arriving one day early? Are the additional services included in the tour fee or is there an additional cost? Can you give me a price for both 3 star and 4 star hotels please?

Regarding your question about Day 10: since the return transfer to the San José airport is private, we can adjust the pick-up time according to your flight schedule. I am planning a travel in November however I don't want to do the Tortugero National Park especially the boating. All your tours include the same. Do you have any tours excluding this, I will be happy to view the details as I really like the rest of your itenaries and the hotels included in the itenaries.

Would it be possible to get a transfer to San Jose airport on a later date?

The transfer back to San José is included from the mentioned hotels.

Instead of finishing on the 16th June per itinerary, can you provide a quote for accommodation to remain on the Pacific Coast until Saturday the 21st June (5 additional nights), and then provide the airport transfer to San Jose on Saturday the 21st? We would both be working for those extra days, so we would need to ensure that the accommodation has a place to sit and a strong wi-fi connection to enable working and calls.

We can totally provide accommodation on the Pacific Coast (Tamarindo) which is beautiful after your program ends June 16th until June 21st. Please see the quote for the additional nights including taxes and breakfast: Standard Category: $213.57 per night ($1067.85), Superior Category: $252.00 per night ($1260.00), Deluxe Category: $378.32 per night ($1891.60). Regarding the transportation on the 21st, indeed, is including on the original package, then what we would do is provide that service on the 21st instead of the 16th with no additional cost.

Is travel insurance mandatory for this trip?

Travel insurance is highly recommended to cover unexpected events, though it is not mandatory.

Could we join this tour at a suitable point between San José and Tortuguero, maybe the breakfast or lunch stop? And what would be the price, without the airport pickup and San José hotel?

Your idea is not possible because the connection from San Jose to Tortuguero is around 8:00 am to 09:00 am. Maybe, I recommend you that you spend one night in Limon area or go to San Jose to spend one night. The price of the transfer from Limon to San Jose is $280 approx. One night in San Jose for 2 is $135 per night.

This tour is excellent for couples with limited time in Costa Rica, as it was nicely divided into Tortuguero, Arenal, Monteverde and Tamarindo, allowing us to experience parks, volcanoes, forests and beaches. We chose 4star hotels and were placed in 3star hotels twice, however, all hotels were beautiful and well maintained. Since this tour utilises sub-tours and sub-companies, you must be prepared for changes in schedule, and whilst Tour Radar were helpful with our queries, they will not know what is happening in real time (eg. we were left waiting for pick up for an hour on one occasion due to traffic encountered in the pick-ups before ours).Show more

Arrived at hotel was told no reservation and had to pay for the first night. Asked to adjust schedule and get back money. Only asked for difference between what we had paid via you and what the hotel charged. Was not possible to adjust schedule. Was told you would check about compensation. No response . Amazing tour! It is very well organised, providing a good balance between activities and time to relax. It also gives plenty of opportunities to supplement the main tour with additional activities. The transfers were always on time, local tour guides were knowledgeable and very professional. We upgraded our hotels from the basic and we strongly recommend doing that - the hotels we got were amazing, especially in La Fortuna, where we were able to enjoy the thermal pools at the hotel. Other highlights include: ziplining in the rainforest in Arenal (though Monteverde option is also available), the suspension bridges in Monteverde and Tortuguero national park. The tour organisers were very helpful and responsive. Would strongly recommend!Show more

A very enjoyable tour package which had a nice combination of days within a group and then independent travel where we went on public transfers and joined day tours in each destination where we were either on our own with the guide or joining different small groups and guides - throughout the whole time we continued to bump into friends we made during the group part of the first few days. There was ample free time where my wife and I could either relax in the hotel or book additional experiences. The first few days was a group experience in Tortuguero - we all stayed in the same hotel and went out on various boat trips on the canals to spot a range of animals including iguana, monkeys, turtles, caiman (small crocodiles), and birds. Heading up to Arenal we had a wet but beautiful hike on the volcano and then relaxed in the Hot Springs. Monteverde was a real highlight and besides the main guided walk, we also used our free time to visit a nearby sanctuary where injured sloths were rehabilitated and very easy to see - a real treat. The visit to the Cloud Forest to walk through the tree-tops is a must do add-on as well. Guanacaste was a more developed town, but the beach was lovely to relax on and the Destination Services team helped arrange accommodation for us to stay there for some extra days. I'd for sure recommend taking the upgraded accommodation on this tour as there is a range of quality. We were well looked after and the Destination Services team were always just a message or call away.Show more

Overall this trip was amazing! We were able to see so many different parts of Costa Ruca. Itinerary was wonderful but very physical. I believe that most older people would struggle (I am 54 and it was challenging at times). Pack quick dry athletic clothing. Pack comfy hiking waterproof boots/shoes. Bring a lightweight rain jacket with hood. Cons: 1. Upgrade your hotels. Turtle Beach in Tortuguero was in an amazing location but VERY rustic. Screens in rooms and not windows. Bathrooms weren’t very clean. There was a dead worm in my shower the entire time and dead bugs. Buffet didn’t change much meal to meal. 2. Tour guide Melissa in tortugero wasn’t the greatest. She wasn’t available for most of the time. Said she would be “around” but was not many times. Communication for planned activities wasn’t great. Took us on a “walk around the property”. Didn’t tell us ahead of time that it would be almost 3 hours long. We didn’t bring water or sunscreen and were still wearing rain boots provided . Not ideal for a 3 hour walk. 3. Be prepared to carry and transport your own luggage at all times. PACK LIGHT! We had to carry our luggage through the mud at Tortugero transfer location. 4. Read what your hotel offers before booking additional activities. Our hotel in Arenal had hot springs on site but we had paid for ecothermales hot springs. (Ecothermales was incredible though) Pros: 1. All other tour guides were great. 2. Laundry services in Arenal are cheap and quick. A lot of my clothes were damp from Tortugero and I laundered everything. 3. The suspension bridges were AMAZING! Would have skipped the cloud forest walk if I knew how great the bridges would be. 4. Zip lines were great! Lots of steps and walking. Didn’t expect that. 5. Last hotel in Tamarindo was the best. We stayed at the Wyndham. It was a resort. Perfect way to end the tripShow more

  The transportation used to move clients from one location to another is shared and non-guided. Clients are picked up at the hotel reception and transferred to the next hotel. Normally the model are minivans around 20 people, depending on the route could be more or less, especially in the route to Tortuguero.

We are seniors, aging from 66 - 75. Is this tour strenuous for this age category or are most activities light to moderate? On day 10 it says a 4.5 hour drive to airport and arrives approximately 12 PM. If international flight departs at 3 PM, would we be there in time or would it be better to spend an additional night in San Jose prior to departure? If extra night, what would the additional cost be and would the transfer to the airport still be included? Also, how much would the hotel cost if arriving one day early? Are the additional services included in the tour fee or is there an additional cost? Can you give me a price for both 3 star and 4 star hotels please?

Instead of finishing on the 16th June per itinerary, can you provide a quote for accommodation to remain on the Pacific Coast until Saturday the 21st June (5 additional nights), and then provide the airport transfer to San Jose on Saturday the 21st? We would both be working for those extra days, so we would need to ensure that the accommodation has a place to sit and a strong wi-fi connection to enable working and calls.

Regarding the transportation on the 21st, indeed, is including on the original package, then what we would do is provide that service on the 21st instead of the 16th with no additional cost.

  Is that pricing for the same hotels as listed in the itinerary for the tour (Arco Iris, Wyndham and Dirá)? Is it USD? As there will be 2 of us needing to work and do calls in the hotel for a week, I don't think a standard hotel room will be suitable, so I might look for an apartment or similar nearby and just move to it once I checkout of the tour hotel on the 16th.

  Yes, that pricing is for the same hotels, however, we can book any other hotel of your preference. Please note that standard doesn't mean no good facilities. Indeed, all of these places have pretty good Wi-Fi connections if you want to consider it. And yes, the price is in USD! About your question, it is still possible to provide you transportation on the 21st if you have your own accommodation, however, this will depend on where the place you select is located, it will need to be something nearby to town.
