Almost half of mainland Europe's brown bear population resides in Romania's Carpathian region. There will be a visit in the largest brown bear sanctuary in Europe and the possibility to join a bear-watching evening with a forester (organized and paid locally).

I was wondering if it would be possible to join you for this trip if I was arriving two days late? There are two of us who would like to come.

If you'd like to join the tour a couple of days late, that is possible! Just keep in mind that our base for the week, Villa Hermani in the remote village of Magura, is about 3+ hours from Bucharest Airport. You're welcome to make your own way there, or we can arrange a private transfer from Bucharest Airport to Magura for USD $350.

We have up to 16 people in every group with one expert guide. Walking times will vary from half to full days. There are numerous uphill sections on paths and tracks with walking distances up to 12mi (20km). Optional longer walks are sometimes available.

Walking days for the tour and distance walked: Day 2: 12 km / 7.5 miles. Day 3: 10 km / 6.2 miles. Day 4: 13 km / 8.1 miles. Day 6: 18 km / 11.2 miles. Day 7: 7 km / 4.3 miles. Altitude maximum: 5,941ft (1,811m); average: 4,265ft (1,300m).

What level of fitness is required for this trip? Are paths steep and uphill? Or are they more level. How many hours hiking each day. As this trip is suitable for up to 99 years old (!!) compared with other tours you offer which are only suitable for up to 59 years old, I am checking my fitness levels for this trip.

In terms of difficulty, walking times will vary from half to full days. There are numerous uphill sections on paths and tracks with walking distances up to 12mi (20km). Optional longer walks are sometimes available. The trip goes up to altitudes of almost 6,560ft (2,000m), so reasonable fitness levels are required. The exact trails, lengths and difficulties may be adapted according to the weather, trail conditions and group fitness.

Does your company require individuals to be vaccinated for COVID-19? What's the average age for the group for this particular trip within this year? Do you have many solo travellers on your trips?

Currently, there are no COVID-19 restrictions in Romania and you can travel in there regardless of your vaccination status. For the 10th of September departure we have six solo travellers and two couples with ages between 37 and 74. For the 1st of October departure we currently have 3 people booked on with ages between 59 and 70. Exodus welcomes solo travellers on all our adult holidays; in fact, approximately 50% of our travellers go it alone.

Would it be possible to be dropped in Bucharest rather than at the airport on day 8?

On the last day of the trip the transfer would only bring you back to the airport (we wouldn't drop you in the city) so you would need to make your own way to the airport to meet the group when they arrive at 20:05.
