  Prior to booking Grace from the company was a great help with answering my questions about the tour. I was disappointed that the price was not as per this site price. Turns out Sunway have fixed prices for each currency, rather than fluctuating Euro conversion. I started the Rainbow Route tour on 4th April. Pre Tour you need to stay at Road Lodge Rivonia for the 6am meeting at breakfast on the tour morning (I booked myself for AUD$73, breakfast 130 RAN). There were two different tours leaving that day, ours had three people with two guides/drivers (Allen and Maxwell). Jonas from the company was there to introduce the drivers and explain the tours. The first day is very long and we did not arrive to our accommodation outside Kruger until 7pm, we did some quick sightseeing stops along the way. The carpark of this accommodation has no lighting; I fell over a huge rock and scratched up both legs, so have a torch ready. This tour involved long days driving, most times arrival was late afternoon. The purpose built truck was great for safaris and road driving but bumpy (African Massage – I took a blow up cushion). Most mornings were early starts. All the accommodations exceeded my expectation, from traditional huts, cabins in national parks, luxury safari rooms, ensuited safari tent and great hotels. Some roads in Kruger were closed due to flooding, but we saw all the big five and more, including a leopard in a tree right beside the truck. The guides looked after us well. The provided meals were basic but nutritious and varied. There was always fruit in the basket at the front. Both Allen and Maxwell had good knowledge of the areas we visited, a good sense of humour and were enthusiastic to share information about the places we travelled through. Each night we had a briefing about the next day. I recommend the extra night tours at Kruger and Addo, organised by the guides when we arrived. I felt that I saw and learnt a lot about South Africa and really enjoyed the tour and the company of the other couple and the guides. The tour was tightly scheduled but had a good variety of beautiful landscapes and activities.Show more

  Great tour of South Africa covering so much of the country. You'll get a variety of experiences including safaris, hikes, national parks, beaches, wineries and cities. You'll meet and see so many smiling faces of South Africa and enjoy their culture. Accommodation ranged from really basic in the Drakensberg mountains to really interesting huts in Kruger and Estiwini to amazing beautiful resorts outside of Kruger. There were some really long travel days in the truck but given the size of the country and the places covered it was totally expected. Sunway Safaris is a local company and you can see that they do their best to help local communities.Show more

  Our guide supposedly had a lot of experience but in comparison to other tour guides (I've taken many tours), he did not give us ongoing information specific to areas we were traveling through. He was sometimes difficult to hear & understand. While looking for animals on safari, he was sometimes on his phone & appeared somewhat disinterested leaving it to the driver, Louis. Unfortunately our 2nd to last night he got quite drunk before he joined us for our dinner at a restaurant. He explained that he had 'worked hard on the tour' and deserved to 'relax'. His hygiene practices could improve & were a concern in meal prep. I felt Louis our driver was good. He was competent, easy to understand, provided interesting information but did not take over what the guide should be doing & did his very best to keep the tour on schedule. The itinerary was good as it included a lot of areas. The accommodation was good, except for the Drakensburgs (I only had hot water in the kitchen even after repair). It was especially good in Knysna - Lagoona Inn. I am sorry to say negative things about our guide, but felt I should be truthful. ~ MaureenShow more

  I have just returned from Sunway South Africa Rainbow Route tour (17 days). It was an absolutely wonderful tour from start to finish and I cannot recommend or praise it enough! It far exceeded my expectations in regards to sights, accommodation and mostly our guides and food! Our guides Stefaine and Sifiso were incredible and 100% made our trip as amazing as it was with their genuine love of guiding people through the sights of South Africa, knowledge & passion for wildlife and culture and luckily for us their amazing cooking skills.
