Reviews of Small Group tours to Africa
- Best of Morocco: 7 Days from Casablanca – Small Group
Best trip ever. Abdul was an excellent tour guide/driver. Food was delicious. The places we stayed were awesome. Everything was great! I wouldn’t change anything. Well worth the price!
- Moroccan Escape: 9 Days from Marrakech – Small Group
This was an excellent way to see Morocco and I'm so glad I picked Morocco Top Adventures for my trip. From the very beginning as I was trying to work out a trip that met both my time requirements and budget, the staff worked tirelessly with me, as a solo traveler, to plan my itinerary. The day of my pickup in Marrakesh, I met Abdul, who would be my driver the entire way. The other group participants didn't make it into the country due to flight issues, so I ended up having a private driver for my entire 9 day journey! I couldn't have asked for better service from this company and from Abdul. He was professional, prompt, kind, and informative the entire way. He made the right number of breaks along the road and was a very good safe driver. All of the lodging places in each town were excellent, with beautiful rooms and kind staff. The desert camp was amazing, and I ended up being the only guest there that night! The tent was beautiful, the food very good, and the camel ride to see the sunset over the dunes was amazing. This tour was 10 stars! Thank you, Abdul and Morocco Top Adventures, for the trip of a lifetime!!
- Imperial Cities & Sahara Adventure: 9 Days Group Tour from Casablanca to Marrakech
I thought I would give an honest review so that future travelers can make an informed decision about this trip. This is not a fully guided tour. We only had local guides for two days in Fes and Marrakesh. For the rest of the trip, it felt more like a road trip. Almost every day involved 4–5 hours of driving, arriving at a place in the evening, staying overnight, and then leaving again the next morning. Particularly in Chefchaouen, which is a very beautiful place, we arrived early in the evening, stayed overnight, and left again in the morning. We didn’t really have enough time to explore the city. The same happened in the Sahara Desert. We arrived in the early evening, stayed overnight in the desert camp, and in the morning we were rushed to leave by 8:00 a.m., which was not good at all. We were also taken to many shops, including ceramic shops, alternative medicine shops, and clothing shops. We did not want to go to these places, but the guide still took us there. The tour could have been much better if we had stayed at least two nights in places like Chefchaouen and the Sahara Desert. We stayed two nights in Marrakesh, which was the good part of the trip. On a positive note, we had a driver named Wail and a very nice car. Wail was an exceptionally gentle and kind person who took great care of us throughout the entire tour. Our sincere thanks to Wail for taking care of us for entire trip.
What our customers ask about Africa Small Group Tours
What is the typical group size for small group tours in Africa?
Most boutique African tours keep numbers between 6-8 travelers which allows for personalized attention and better wildlife viewing opportunities. Companies like Tunisie Voyages cap their groups at 8 people while safari specialists Perfect Wilderness Tours maintain smaller numbers to optimize game drive experiences. As one TourRadar traveler noted: "We had just 2 of us so we had a private tour which was unexpected and wonderful."
What type of accommodation is offered on small group safaris in Africa?
Accommodations range from eco-lodges to upscale tented camps strategically positioned near wildlife areas. The Buffelsdrift Luxury Glamping Tents along South Africa's Garden Route and Serena Safari Lodge at Ngorongoro Crater showcase this range. Smaller properties like Eileens Tree Lodge in Tarangire offer a more exclusive atmosphere. One TourRadar reviewer highlighted: "The intimate lodges really enhanced our safari experience - we particularly loved the Rhino Lodge at Ngorongoro where we could watch wildlife right from our veranda."
What is the average price difference between small and large group tours in Africa?
Expect to pay 20-30% more for small group experiences with daily rates from USD 250-1000 based on destination and comfort level. A 3-day small group visit to Masai Mara averages USD 210 per day while premium options like the Jewels of Africa tour reach USD 1150 daily including high-end lodging and dedicated guides.
How does transportation work on small group African tours?
Travel happens in modified 4x4 vehicles or minivans with guaranteed window seats for each guest. Tanzania tours use Land Cruisers equipped with pop-up roofs while Egypt routes often feature private air-conditioned vans. According to TourRadar reviews: "Having a dedicated 4x4 for our small group meant we could stop whenever we spotted wildlife and stay as long as we wanted."
How much interaction is there with local communities on small group tours?
The limited group size enables direct cultural connections from Maasai community visits in Kenya to meetings with Nubian families in Egypt. In places like Djerba Tunisia groups of 8 or fewer regularly visit local craft workshops and homes. A TourRadar reviewer noted: "Our small group size meant we could visit a local Berber family for tea without overwhelming their home making it feel like a genuine cultural exchange."
What is the dining experience like on small group African tours?
Smaller numbers allow for flexible dining from sunrise breakfasts in the Serengeti to meals in family homes. Select venues like the Old Cataract Hotel in Aswan offer private riverside dining spaces. According to reviews: "With just 6 of us we could dine at authentic local restaurants rather than tourist spots and our guide helped us discover real Egyptian cuisine."
What is the recommended length for a small group tour in Africa?
Tours typically run 3-12 days depending on the region and planned activities. Short focused trips like the 3-day Masai Mara safari work well for wildlife viewing while broader experiences such as the 6-day Tunisia Discovery allow time to explore multiple sites. A TourRadar reviewer noted: "Six days was perfect to see the highlights while maintaining an intimate group atmosphere."
