There's a stop at Vigur island farm to see seabirds like puffins and guillemots, then you head to Latrabjarg, one of Europe's largest bird cliffs. 6. Day 6

    Westfjords

More time in the Westfjords means additional opportunities to see the isolated fjords, dramatic coastlines, and wildlife. You'll have more chances for guided explorations depending on weather and what the expedition team has planned.

  7. Day 7

    Diamond Circle & Arctic Circle

The coach takes you along the Diamond Circle route through north Iceland. You'll see long valleys, peninsulas, mountains, and lava fields. Several waterfalls are on the itinerary: Dettifoss, Godafoss (called the Waterfall of the Gods), and Aldeyjarfoss with its hexagonal basalt columns. You'll also explore gorges like Kolugljufur and Jokulsargljufur, plus the horseshoe-shaped Asbyrgi Canyon. The geothermal area around Myvatn and Hverir gets attention, as does the lava field at Dimmuborgir. By the time you head toward the Arctic Circle, you'll be ready for the midnight sun. At the end, you cross into the Arctic Circle and visit Grímsey island, which has about 70 people living there and large puffin populations.

All was good. Great tour guide who really knows Iceland. There was a Tour Radar snafu right at the start whereby the (personal) information that we filled out on the Tour Guide web site never got to the tour guide when checking us in. Didn’t feel comfortable sharing our information verbally in a group setting.

The itinerary was well thought out, covering many of the highlights. The accommodations very comfortable. The only downside was our guide — he wasn’t very energetic or cheerful, which made the experience feel a little flat at times. The schedule also felt rushed: for example, we had just 30 minutes for lunch and only about 20 minutes at waterfalls, which didn’t feel enough when traveling all the way from another country to see them. Overall though, it was a beautiful trip with amazing sights.

The itinerary itself was great — we saw stunning locations, and the accommodations were excellent. Unfortunately, the experience was overshadowed by our tour guide, Kristján Einvarõur. From the very start, he was rude, unenergetic, and far from cheerful. Instead of lifting the group’s mood, he consistently brought the vibe down. The pacing of the tour also felt rushed. We were given only 30 minutes for lunch, 20 minutes at a waterfall, and even the glacier hike was cut short because he told the glacier guide to keep it brief. These incredible experiences felt more like a checklist than a chance to actually enjoy Iceland. To make matters worse, at one point when someone’s phone rang, he loudly said, “Can you stop that?” — without considering that it could have been an emergency. Overall, Iceland itself is breathtaking, and the itinerary was solid, but the guide’s attitude made the trip far less enjoyable than it should have been.
