I had an amazing time on the trip. Cat was an amazing tour guide there were absolutely no hiccups on the trip. She did everything in her power to make sure that things went smoothly and it always did. (I.e. The time that somebody forgot to include their middle name on their flight and they had to have a name change or the other time that someone left their passport behind in the hotel). Anytime I asked Cat about where to go for specific types of food she would always have a really good recommendation on hand. Sometimes people would ask something that Cat had already gone over but Cat would always answer very politely even though she had already stated it three times before. This was such a phenomenal trip for me and I'm so glad that Cat was my tour guide. I've also experienced local tour guides like I've never had before on any trip I've been to and that was because Cat specifically picked them out and she had particular tour guides that she really liked (I.e. During the tunnel tour our local tour guide was a Vietnam war veteran, while every other tour guide was a kid in his 20s. For me, this was such a more authentic experience to have a war vet who had actually been there being our local guide) I felt like I was able to go everywhere that I wanted to on this trip. However, The only thing I wish this tour did was go to Sapa.

Best guide ever, Ken Srimonta. Well organized. Extremely punctual. Things, I would change could check in earlier and have the chance to have a shower and don't leave luggage in th lobby. Transportation was good enough but many times the space was not enough for tall western people.

The trip was amazing! loved getting to know all those different cultures and people. The transport and accomodation were good, according to the price of the whole trip. Our guide was excellent se put his heart in her job, she was an expert and she was always smiling and helping us with any trouble we faced.

The trip was much better then expected, i had by far the best tourguide ever he was funny he put us (travellers) first, if there was anything wrong he dealt with it straight away and called it asian experience. I got myself in some trouble and my tourguide got me out of it, if this is read by any ceo's or bosses of any tour guides pleas know that "jack thy" or known as "happy buddha" made this trip for me well worth it, the guy deserves a trophee or a damn raise will definitely book a tour again with g- adventures

The trip was amazing but heaps to do so on the go all the time. Really good itinerary and the room mate I was paired with was perfect for me. Our tour guide was extraordinary, I feel like he was the best part of the trip, so knowledgeable and really went out of his way to teach us about the history of the places that we travelled to.

Vietnam and Cambodia on a shoestring was an amazing and life changing experience. I had previously travelled Australia and New Zealand, however south-east Asia was completely different, in a great way. I joined G Adventures on recommendation and heard it was perfect for solo travellers. We started in Bangkok and headed through Cambodia to finish in Hanoi. Through every stop we were provided with great accommodation, information and activities. The three best things about this tour were: The guide, the people and the ease. Law Tran was a brilliant tour guide, his knowledge and enthusiasm made learning about local culture and heritage easy and fun. He went the extra mile for everyone in the group and always participated with all our adventures. He always focused on our safety and fun, and I believe our trip would not have been the same without him. This tour also welcomes solo travellers, as a young woman I liked being able to travel with like-minded people; making the experience all the more enjoyable and less worrying. I would highly recommend any G adventures tour, as it was to me. Thank you! Annabelle Marks

Restrict age a real problem for us as a couple (one in age range and other just outside) so despite the itinerary matching what we wanted when we phoned to check we were rudely told no! Very disappointed as we had got to the stage of booking where filling in details before seeing that there was an age limit. Why age matters on tour like this we can't understand, surely its your outlook... Made it worse that person on phone was so disinterested and rude. Plus website doesn't clearly tell you about the restriction :-(
G Adventures commented on this review
Sorry this tour and the service around it were so disappointing. In regard to the age restriction, this tour is in our 'Yolo' travel, which is targeted for the 18-39 year old traveller. This is prominently displayed on our website, you can see for yourself here: https://www.gadventures.com/trips/cambodia-vietnam-on-a-shoestring/2687/

The trip was both the best and worst I have ever had. The bad points are the hotels and hostels, we were booked into hotels known for having bedbugs, which is disgraceful. The trip is to short to get a real flavour for either country.

I would 100% recommend this tour. It was the best time, amazing guide, amazing people, loads of fun. The accommodation was much better than I anticipated and the transportation was great, with 3 overnight trains that get easier and easier every time - don't worry! We had a small group of 5 people but there was a larger group of 18 who started the same day as us and so we did everything as one combined group such as activities, dinners and nights out which was great but we also had the extra privilege of having our own bus for our small group when we were travelling from place to place which meant we could stretch out and relax on long journeys. I went on this tour as a solo traveller and before leaving I was so nervous and worried about it all, but that literally went away as I soon as I started talking to others on the tours. Just think that everyone who decides to do these tours are like minded people and so you are all bound to get along! I have made amazing friends and have already booked my next Gadventures tour with one of the people I met! The one thing I would say to consider is doing the Indochina in depth tour instead of the Cambodia and Vietnam on a shoestring as they are combined tours and so most people stayed on an extra 10 days to do Laos and Thailand. I regretted not booking the longer one as I didn't want to leave the group after Vietnam! But it was still amazing and if you only have 20 days or only want to do Cambodia and Vietnam then you'll still have the time of your life. Definitely go ahead and book!
