I really enjoyed the tour and the intinerary. The meals that were included were really great. For the non-included meals, it often felt that there was one set location for the group to eat together, and not much alternative. It would have been nice if there were more suggestions of alternate places for the group to choose to eat rather than feeling like there was only one option, since we were paying for it ourselves. There were also a few cities where we had down time or the option to explore ourselves but there weren't many suggestions of what to do (Fes is one that comes to mind). Lastly, in cities like Marrakesh, there were optional activities listed like a cooking class or hot air ballooning, but we weren't given any direction about how to go about booking/organizing these activities if we wanted to participate, and it felt too late once we arrived off the overnight train.

I went with a tour for Morocco because I wasn't sure about traveling as a woman alone there, but I felt very safe in most of the cities. Our guide, Khaled, was very specific about when and where it was safe for us to venture off alone. He did a great job of looking after our group and had great recommendations, even for local street food that was safe for us. We had a few who were big on having a drink and nightlife, so he helped point everyone in the right direction. Overall, I enjoyed the tour and would return to Morocco. It felt like we had the right amount of time in each city, EXCEPT the offer of several optional activities in Marrakech seems to imply that you'll arrive in time for them - nope. Our guide warned us that the night train usually doesn't arrive in time for the 9 AM tour departures. If I'd realized that (and how safe it was), I would have stayed an extra day. Intrepid should have been more clear about this and I had the same problem on my arrival day - I asked about the Casablanca mosque tour and was told to talk to my hotel on arrival. The hotel told me that it wasn't possible to arrange it the same day and failed to mention the last entry is 14h00, so I missed it altogether. I'm fortunate that I live close enough to return easily, but this could be a big problem for those who don't.

Hi Brooke, Thanks for sharing your experience with us, we’re so happy to hear that you had a great time in Morocco. Khaled is the best, isn’t he? (in fact, he was officially named the Best Guide in the World last year, so it’s not just us who think that). And thank you for the feedback about Marrakech, we will definitely take it into consideration when advising clients in future. We hope to see you on another trip with us again soon! Kind regards, Intrepid

Also was happy to discuss extra places to see, Moroccan culture, things to do, etc. Places visited were fantastic (Moulay Idriss and Chefchaouen were amazing), and all but one of the guided tours were excellent. However, the itinerary stressed we were supporting local businesses, but the type of restaurants we ate in did not indicate that, as well as the type of collectives we visited. Felt too touristy (pricey and unauthentic) at times. Was a little annoyed a 300 Dirham tips kitty was not included in the tour price.

Hi Michael, Thank you so much for sharing your experience in Morocco with us. Receiving feedback from our passengers is great as it helps us to know where we’re meeting or hopefully even exceeding expectations. We were disappointed to read that you weren’t satisfied with some aspects of the trip, as supporting local businesses is at the very core of Intrepid and all that we do. If you didn’t feel this was the case in certain places, we would love to hear more about it. Please feel free to contact our Customer Relations team to give us a little more information: customerrelations@intrepidtravel.com Kind regards, Intrepid

The trip was not bad; we visited all the cities we planned to visit; some of them were nicer highlights than others; tour guides were very professional and flexible; and they kept giving us good recommendations from time to time; public transportation was a bit inconvenient; not sure if things would have been more cost effective if we opted for private transportation all along; hotels were mainly a big disappointment; in most of them there were no hot water (and we had to take cold showers); breakfasts were often disappointing and with no variety (hotel manager in Fes aggressively said that he provides one egg for each person though on a table of 4, there were only 2, it wasn't a pleasant conversation); we expected more from hotels of 3 to 4 star ratings and had to go for proper breakfasts elsewhere when the variety was pathetic; door knobs were sometimes broken, keys were metal/ manual and not cards (and when they were cards, they would not give us more than 1), many bathroom facilities were broken/ not working, etc. A big disappointment was the cancellation of the arrival transfer from the airport (when most of the people were arriving). with the excuse that some people didn't fill their details; they could still offer at least one car for those who confirmed (we had to arrange for this ourselves); another BIG disappointment is shifting the tour start time to 2:00 p.m. starting at the station, and changing meeting point from Le Caspien last minute. Though I spoke to one of the guides a day earlier, and told him that we'll be ready at 11:00 to start the tour, he apparently didn't understand me well over the phone. We could have still used those 3 hours productively, but we managed to see a lot of the city anyway. All in all we enjoyed the trip together, and the only added value I saw were the tour guides; everything else we could have organized ourselves without assistance to be honest. If I have time next trip, I will make sure I read the complete itinerary, and ask lots of questions on all planned activities. Thanks again for your help. Regards, Ash.

The guides have experience and nice. Although almost all of the hotels didn’t have hot shower and some service problems, this was as I estimated.

Went on this tour as the first half of the "Morocco Encompassed" tour. Not too bad for what they are charging for it. My only comment: research the trip as if you did not have a tour guide. They did a decent job with logistics and accommodation and our guide, Ahmed, was friendly and affable; but the official itinerary all but ignores the country's history and architecture -- this is especially a problem in Fez, the world's greatest surviving medieval Islamic city, which this tour turns into a rushed, cheesey shopping trip virtually ignoring the historic structures that make this city so important. If you do your homework, have a clear idea beforehand of what each location has to offer, and are not afraid to break away from the official tour (especially in the Fez Medina), this tour is a decent value for the money.

Questions & Answers

Here we have collected and answered the most frequently asked questions about this tour.

    • May 15, 2018

Is there a hotel list available?

The tour operator has advised that they do not have a hotel list available for this tour, as all accommodations are subject to change until 4-6 weeks before the departure date. After the booking is made you will be issued your final trip documents with your specific accommodation details. That being said, on this tour you will be staying 1 night in a guesthouse, 6 nights in hotels and 1 night on an overnight sleeper train. Two examples of hotels that they generally stay at on this tour are Hotel Les Trois Palmiers and Hotel Al Walid, hopefully, this can give you an idea of the kind of accommodation you can expect on tour.

    • May 1, 2018

When and where does the tour end?

This tour will end after breakfast on the last day of the tour at Hotel Les Trois Palmiers and it is now time to say farewell to Marrakech! Check-out time is usually around midday and you are free to leave at any time. Please be aware the hotel is subject to change until your final documents are released.

    • May 1, 2018

When and where does the tour start?

The first day of the tour generally starts from Hotel Al Walid in Morocco and as the first day is just an arrivals day you can arrive at any time. There is, however, a welcome meeting at 6 pm, so we recommend arriving beforehand so you can meet your group and fellow travellers. Hotel Al Walid is conveniently located in Casablanca, which allows you to discover the city with no hassle. As there's not much free time included in Casablanca on this trip, we highly recommend you arrive a day or two early so you can explore.

Please be aware the starting hotel is subject to change until your final documents are released.
