  Hi, This is my seventh trip organized by Intrepid, and I’ll definitely continue to trust you for the next ones. If you want a complete change of scenery and love nature and animals, Costa Rica is a perfect destination.Impressive rain forest Some litle treks and safari in those forests to alot of animals. You will learn al lot of things on the history, plants, animals. You’ll be amazed by the lush nature and all the animals you can encounter if you’re a bit lucky — sloths, tarantulas, tree frogs, lots of different bird species, and more. Without our excellent guide Tayron, this trip wouldn’t have been nearly as exceptional. The hotels were beautiful, set away from the villages, right in the heart of nature—with pools (and sometimes animals ;-) ). The hotel in Manuel Antonio was especially lovely, with a view of the ocean. There wasn’t too much driving—about three hours on average—so we had plenty of free time to enjoy ourselves. March is a great time to go: few tourists and not too hot. It was actually quite peaceful in the end. Just note that Costa Rica is a fairly expensive country when it comes to restaurants, juices, cocktails, etc., and plan for an extra budget if you’re interested in optional activities.   The trip was awesome, loved the areas we stayed. The guide was very attentive and always available to answer any questions we had. He was very pleasant and knowledgeable. Costa Rica is paradise! Where there could be improvement is the quality of hotels. Most were fine but some had issues like no hot water. The other reason I only have 4 stars is the cost of the excursions. They were outrageously overpriced. 2 times I/we found excursions on our own at 1/3 the price. I encourage travellers to do there homework for excursions if you want to save your money as Costa Rica is becoming fairly expensive.Show more

We are sorry to hear that you found some of the accommodations did not live up to the expected standard for an Original level trip and that some of the hotels did not have hot water. We also appreciate that you found that our recommendations for the optional activities to be at a higher cost than some of the other companies in the area. At Intrepid, we conduct full safety and quality assessments before recommending a company for an optional excursion, which does sometimes result in our recommendations being for companies that charge more for their services, we are sorry if this was not communicated to you on your trip.   It was a perfect introduction to Costa Rica. In other reviews, I noticed that some felt that there should have been more meals and excursions included in the price. I thought that the amount was fair. It allowed us time to choose excursions that were of interest to us and to eat what, when and with whom we wanted. I preferred the mix of flexibility and structure. And for everything we did, the pace was excellent as well.Show more
