Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Calenzana to Bonifatu

Your cab driver picks you up in Calvi and takes you to Calenzana, where the GR20 officially begins. From there you'll hike through the Bonifatu forest, walking past viewpoints that look out over the villages of Balagne. The route covers about 11km and takes roughly 4 hours, so you'll have time to settle in at your overnight spot.

    Meals
    Dinner

    Included Activities

    • Transfer from Calvi to Calenzana
    • GR20 hiking stage through Bonifatu forest
    Landmarks
    Calenzana

  2. Day 2

    Bonifatu to Haut Asco

This is one of the longer stages of the trek. Starting from Bonifatu, you'll cross multiple rivers on your way to the famous Spasimata suspension bridge. After that comes the Mouflon valley with its small lake, and then you'll head toward Monte Cinto. By evening you'll reach the Haut Asco ski station for the night. The distance is about 9.5km but the 8 hours of walking time shows how challenging this day gets.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch (Lunch box), Dinner

    Included Activities

    • GR20 hiking stage through Muvrella valley
    • Crossing of Spasimata suspension bridge
    Landmarks
    Spasimata suspension bridge
    Muvrella valley
    Monte Cinto
  3. Day 3

    Haut Asco to Vallone

You'll climb up the flanks of Monte Cintu to reach Pointe des Ébuolis, which is the highest point on the entire GR20. Coming down into the Melarie valley, there's a good chance you'll spot mouflons if you keep your eyes open. Tonight you're staying at a mountain shepherd's hut in Vallone, right by a stream. The starry skies up here are really something. The 9km takes about 8 hours with all the elevation change.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch (Lunch box), Dinner

    Included Activities

    • GR20 hiking stage to Pointe des Éboulis
    • Descent through Melarie valley
    Landmarks
    Pointe des Éboulis
    Melarie valley
  4. Day 4

    Vallone to Vergio

You'll make your way into the traditional Niolu region, which is really the heart of the island. The hike passes below Paglia Orba and the striking Capu Tafunatu, and if the weather cooperates you'll see views of the Gulf of Porto. The Golo Valley section has natural pools where you can cool off before reaching Vergio. This stage covers 14km and takes about 6 hours 15 minutes.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch (Lunch box), Dinner

    Included Activities

    • GR20 hiking through Niolu region
    • Views of Paglia Orba and Capu Tafunatu

  5. Day 5

    Vergio to Campotile plateau

An easier day of hiking follows as you head toward the Bocca San Pedru pass, where you'll get views of the Mediterranean coastline. The real highlight is Lac de Nino, one of Corsica's mountain jewels, surrounded by pozzines and sometimes you'll see wild horses around it. You're walking about 16km over 6 hours, so the pace is fairly steady.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch (Lunch box)

    Included Activities

    • GR20 hiking to Bocca San Pedru
    • Visit to Lac de Nino
    Landmarks
    Bocca San Pedru

  6. Day 6

    Campotile plateau to Petra Piana

The day starts with a steep climb over rocky terrain up to Brèche de Capitellu. Once you reach the top, there are beautiful views of Melu and Capitellu lakes in the upper Restonica valley. After that you'll continue to Bocca Muzella at 2206m and then descend to a small plateau where the Petra Piana refuge sits. The 8.5km takes about 6 hours because of how steep some sections are.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch (Lunch box), Dinner

    Included Activities

    • GR20 hiking to Brèche de Capitellu
    • Hike to Bocca Muzella (2206m)

  7. Day 7

    Petra Piana to l'Onda

This is a shorter stage, though it's exposed and pretty panoramic as it sits between the Monte Rotondo and Monte d'Oro massifs. Pay attention to wind conditions because there's a variant route if things get too rough. On clear days you can actually see all the way to the Gulf of Ajaccio. The 7km takes roughly 4 hours 30 minutes.

    Included Activities

    • GR20 hiking between Monte Rotondo and Monte d'Oro

    Optional Activities

    • Variant route available for windy conditions
    Landmarks
    Monte Rotondo

  8. Day 8

    l'Onda to Vizzavona

You're finishing up the northern section today. Starting from Refuge l'Onda, you'll walk through the Agnone Valley at the foot of Monte d'Oro. Along the way you'll cross the Turtettu bridge and pass the Cascades des Anglais waterfalls before arriving in Vizzavona. It's 10km and takes about 5 hours 30 minutes, so you'll have afternoon light when you arrive.

    Meals
    Dinner

  9. Day 9

    Vizzavona to Capanelle

The southern section begins in the beech forest of Vizzavona. You'll head toward Bocca Palmente, which has nice views of the Diana and Urbino lagoons. From there the route continues to Bergeries d'Alzeta, then follows an old mule track up to the Gîte Capanelle. The 14km takes about 5 hours, so it's a fairly solid day of hiking.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch (Lunch box), Dinner

From Capanelle you'll head to the shepherd's huts at Traghjete and continue over the Ghialgone plateau. The I Spiazzi bridge comes next, then you'll walk through the Marmano forest before reaching Col de Verde. Another 14km and 5 hours of walking, so you're settling into a good rhythm with the terrain.

    Meals

    Col de Verde to Cozzano

You'll climb up to Bocca d'ell'Orro and cross the Prato plateau, which has alpine meadows and really open spaces. The ridge walking here offers views of the Taravo Valley to the west and the Tyrrhenian Sea to the east. Coming down through the St-Antoine forest, you'll end up in the village of Cozzano. This is 14km over 8 hours because of the elevation and terrain.

Get an early start from Cozzano this morning. You'll climb to Bocca di l'Usciolu and then follow a ridge with really distinctive wind-sculpted rock formations. As you descend through an old alder forest, the vegetation starts getting thicker and denser. By the end you'll reach the Plateau de Coscione where there's a shepherd's hut for the night. The 16km over 8 hours makes this another substantial day.

Then you'll climb over the rocky slopes of Monte Incudine, which is over 2000m and the highest peak in the southern section. After descending into the Asinao Valley, you'll climb again toward the dramatic granite gullies of the Aiguilles de Bavella. The 15km takes about 8 hours.

The important things worked well - the hotels were very good.... In the details were a few things that can definitely be avoided with a little more commitment. 3 weeks to confirm booking - travel documents I had to complain 4 days before departure.... annoying detail - when you get the message on Good Friday, the documents take place a week before the start what would have been Easter Monday and Thursday is still no tour description there.... The tour description was loveless - partly strange route guidance - and at the end in the tour description as final destination "Hotel Europa" was indicated... only that the hotel owner had no reservation - correct would have been the hotel right next to it.... Nothing substantial - but annoying... with 4 stars I am generous.- the vacation itself is super recommendable and the commitment of Tourradar itself was impeccable.
