Itinerary
- Day 1
Shanghai to Beijing
Your driver picks you up in Shanghai early and takes you to catch the morning high-speed train heading north to Beijing. The ride gives you a chance to watch the landscape change as you move through different regions. Once you arrive at Beijing Railway Station, your guide meets you and the day really begins. You'll walk through the Forbidden City, this massive 600-year-old imperial palace where 24 emperors actually lived and ruled. Your guide fills you in on what daily life was like for the imperial family and walks you through the palace's history. After that, you head over to the Shichahai area for a hutong tour on foot, wandering through narrow alleyways lined with Ming Dynasty architecture. There's time to relax by the lakeside (it's a UNESCO site) and check out Houhai Bar Street if you want. By evening, a private car brings you back to your hotel.

- Day 2
Beijing to Shanghai
Meet your guide at the hotel after breakfast and drive out to Mutianyu Great Wall. You'll take a cable car up the mountain to explore one of the better-preserved sections, and from up there you can see the natural scenery and all the watchtowers stretching across the ridges. After coming back down, you head into the city to visit Temple of Heaven, the largest worship complex from the Ming and Qing dynasties. You'll likely see locals doing Tai Chi, singing, and dancing in the courtyards. Then it's time to make your way to the railway station to catch the bullet train back to Shanghai. Your driver picks you up when you arrive and takes you to your hotel.
