Itinerary
- Day 1
Mannheim
You'll arrive in Mannheim and head straight to Herrdegen patisserie, a traditional spot where you can have coffee and try the local Mannemer Dreck pastries. From there, check out the Reiss-Engelhorn-Museen to see the photo exhibition 'Geographies of Drought' by Margaret Courtney-Clarke, a Namibian artist whose work looks at drought and African resilience. By evening, you'll sit down for Vietnamese food at Saigon restaurant, which has won awards for what they do there.

Schwetzingen - Heidelberg
Start the day with a guided tour of Kunsthalle Mannheim, where you'll see Impressionist and Expressionist paintings, including Manet's work. Then head out to Schwetzingen Palace, which has baroque gardens with Far Eastern influences and some historical ruins scattered around. After that, drive to Heidelberg to walk through the old town, see the castle, and check out the Old Bridge crossing the Neckar. Back in Mannheim, dinner happens at Alter Simpel restaurant, which has regional specialties and a real atmospheric feel to the place.

Mannheim
Following breakfast, you'll spend your day at the Technoseum, one of Europe's more modern technology museums. It covers about 200 years of industrial and scientific development, taking you from steam engines and paper production through to bionics and space travel. The interactive stations let you actually work with original machines and get a feel for how things work. By the end, you'll leave with a solid understanding of technological progress.
