  Title: Great Cruise Staff, Poor Tour Operator & Inconsistent Guides The cruise itself was fantastic, the staff on board were excellent and went above and beyond to make us comfortable. When we arrived, we were mistakenly booked into a twin room, but the ship’s team quickly resolved this and moved us to a double cabin. They couldn’t have been more helpful, and the food was excellent. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the tour operator. Communication was poor from the start. Despite asking multiple times, we never received an updated itinerary and had to rely on the published schedule on TourRadar. On the day we thought we were boarding the ship, we were suddenly told we’d be doing two days’ worth of activities in one. This was after three intense days of sightseeing in Cairo, a late-night flight to Luxor, and a 4 am start for a Christmas Day balloon ride. We were exhausted and expected a relaxed transfer, not a full-day tour of major sites like the Valley of the Kings, the Valley of the Queens, Karnak, and Luxor. By late afternoon, we had to insist on postponing Luxor Temple to the following day. Our contact, Tarek, was unhelpful and seemed more focused on upselling extra activities than providing clear information. Because we booked through this operator, the guides they arranged were hit-or-miss. Our first guide (private tour) for the Valley of the Kings was friendly and flexible, but their knowledge was surface-level, and their English comprehension was poor, making questions difficult. Our second and third guides (for the Edfu & Kom Ombo group tours) rushed everyone through the sights, clearly motivated by tips rather than by providing meaningful explanations. Our third guide in Aswan was better – more knowledgeable and friendly – but still not as good as the Egyptologist we booked independently for a private day trip to Saqqara & Giza. The difference was night and day. In retrospect, if possible, we would have booked the cruise directly and arranged our own day trips with Egyptologists. It might have cost more, but the experience would have been far superior. Overall, while the cruise ship and staff were amazing, the operator’s lack of organisation, poor communication, and inconsistent guides made the experience stressful and disappointing. We would not recommend them.Show more

  Worst experience ever !!! They stole me money in the cruise from the security box and she didn’t help me , or tried to give any solution or support . When I wrote to her she said she could do nothing , but she was the one that chose the cruise and put us there . I felt so unprotected and alone in a country I didn’t know the people or language . By the way I had to call the police and after a long investigation they confirmed that I was telling truth. Don’t trust this company ! You will be alone in case of trouble .Show more

  Hi Maria, We are sorry that you was exposed to such an experience. When that happened you were in Aswan. Our office in Upper Egypt is in Luxor and Head office is in Cairo . Nevertheless, Tarek and Salwa were in constant contact with you. Tarek contacted the cruise Managers and all agreed that you should call the cops. In all countries in the world when something wrong happens you should report it to the Tourism Police. They are the only authority that can take immediate action in such matter. Ancient Egypt Tours did everything in their power to assist. It is you who has to report this and you were advised several times from Tarek and Salwa to go to the Police Officer that is stationed right outside the port where your cruise was docked. You were assisted by all the staff of the cruise and they were very cooperative. If there is one bad person among the staff of the cruise doesn't mean that the whole cruise is bad. And as you were advised the police investigated and claimed your money back. Once again, we are so sorry you had to experience that but it could happen anywhere, even in your own country and the only authority around the world that could take action is the police

  A positive experience overall. We saw exciting things, ate well and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The cabins were very large and comfortable but the showers could be improved. Most staff, particularly in the dining room, were helpful and cheerful. Negatives: The third day was poor. We arrived late at both locations. We had little time at both temples. Everyone was very late for the Gala dinner. ( i felt bad for the chefs, who had worked wonders.) The cost of drinks was ridiculously high. $4 for a large water was far, far too much. Most people did not buy any drinks on board. Changing guides was not helpful. Guide at Kom Ombo was very good. Arrival arrangements were poorly planned. Wifi signal was very variable, sometimes good but mostly weak. Passengers need to be told about tipping. We are happy to tip good service, which we did. However, some people made extravigant and totally unrealistic demands.Show more
