You'll arrive in Antigua and get transferred to your hotel in this colonial city. The place is known for its art galleries, restaurants, and lively street atmosphere, so there's plenty to explore once you're settled in.

Antigua
A guided walking tour takes you through Antigua's historic center with its old ruined churches, convents, and cobbled streets that open onto a central plaza. Volcanoes frame the backdrop here. After the tour, you have free time to wander around on your own and check out whatever catches your interest.

Landmarks Antigua Central Plaza - Day 4
Antigua to Lake Atitlan
You'll head through the highlands on scenic mountain roads with volcanoes and small farming villages visible along the way. In Chichicastenango, stop to see the whitewashed church and walk through the vibrant market with textiles, masks, and fresh produce for sale. Later you'll continue on to Lake Atitlan with its deep blue waters and volcanic landscape surrounding it.

Lake Atitlan
Starting from Santa Catarina de Polopó, take a motor launch across Lake Atitlan's calm waters in the morning to Santiago de Atitlan. You'll see hamlets, fields, and volcanic peaks from the boat. Once there, explore the town and its colorful textiles, and you might come across Maximón, an important local figure in the area's traditions.

Lake Atitlan
This day is yours to do what you want around Lake Atitlan. The surrounding villages each have their own traditional clothing and Mayan dialect. You can relax and take in the quiet atmosphere, or pick from optional activities available if you prefer something more structured.

Lake Atitlan to Flores
Drive back to the capital for a one-hour flight to Flores in northern Guatemala's dense jungle. From there, continue to your lodge on Lake Peten's shore. The rest of your day is free, so relax by the pool or head out on the marked trails to see local wildlife.

Flores
A guided tour takes you to Tikal, one of the largest and most important Mayan city-states about an hour away. You'll climb steep pyramids and temples, walk through palace complexes, and listen for howler monkeys. Spider monkeys, toucans, and parrots move through the rainforest canopy around you.

- Day 9
Flores to Belize
Visit Yaxha, a less-known Mayan ceremonial site along a lagoon. Then cross the border into Belize through San Ignacio and head to the Cayo district. Your lodge sits in the hilly interior on the rainforested banks of the Macal River, and it's quite remote and quiet.

Cayo District
Based at Chaa Creek eco-lodge for two days, you can walk orchid-lined jungle trails, canoe down the Macal River looking for wildlife and birds, or try horseback riding and biking.
