We are interested in a private tour through the 4 Stans (excluding Turkmenistan) for about 10-11 days around Sept Oct. We are very interested in the nature and old glory of the Silk Road, the architecture and traditions of these countries. Is it possible to work together to build an itinerary?

Visa-free entry into Uzbekistan for up to 30 days (through land borders and on Uzbekistan Airways flights) is established for US citizens who have reached the age of 55 years. But based on personal experience and the experience of my colleagues, it is better to get a visa. US citizens do not need a visa to Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan; there is a visa-free regime of 30 days.

Our guides were generally all good English speakers, Yom in Yangshuo was without doubt the most wonderful and made a huge effort to get to know us and our interests, Rain in Zhangjiajie and Fenghuang was a close 2nd, he answered our questions about more than just the places we were visiting and had a relaxed manner. The travel agent contact Ben of Silk Road tours was always available to answer questions promptly and upgraded our final hotel stay when we queried the hotel. If I had to criticise at all it was that each guide had not always been given the information on our next place, but they always found out for us once asked.Show more

  Four-star hotels are good. I know the hotel ratings are international, but just to make sure I have the right notion, for example, Ichan Q'al or Radisson Blue in Tashkent are what I understand to be four-star hotels. Am I in the right ballpark?

  We were surprised by the cost. I looked at other private tours for 11 days - granted not exactly the same but in the region and hitting the major landmarks - and they were less than $3000/person for lux accommodations. I understand a bit more because we customized it. In full disclosure I feel that we need to get different quotes for this itinerary. I also looked at the hotels and for double occupancy, we'll have a max of $150/day + the meals in Uzbekistan are not included, and the train is second class.

- For any tour departing before May 25th, 2026 a full payment is necessary. For tours departing after May 25th, 2026, a minimum payment of 20% is required to confirm your booking with Silk Road Trips. The final payment of the remaining balance is required at least 70 days prior to the departure date of your tour. TourRadar never charges you a booking fee and will charge you in the stated currency.
