Itinerary

Oviedo to Grado
You'll arrive at Oviedo airport and catch a bus to the city center, then hop on a local train headed to Grado. From there, a cab takes you to Hotel Casa de la Veiga, a rural 3-star property where you can unwind and get a feel for the quiet Asturian countryside around you.

- Day 2
Grado
This is your first hiking day through Grado's scenic valley. You'll walk along the Camino Primitivo, moving through quiet countryside, farmland, and small villages. Your support team gives you flexibility here, so you can either tackle a more demanding mountain route or stick to gentler country roads and get picked up at different spots depending on what you choose.

Sama de Grado to Proaza
Two different hiking routes are available today. One option takes you from Sama de Grado to Proaza on quiet paths where mountain views gradually open up, eventually reaching the Trubia river and the Senda del Oso (Path of the Bear) with its bear reserve. The other route heads into the Xana Gorge and high-altitude pastures with dramatic limestone scenery. Either way, you'll end up at your hotel in Proaza.

Proaza to Teverga
A cab transfer gets you to the medieval village of Bandujo, and from there you hike upward through beautiful terrain toward Caldoveiro's summit with great views of the surrounding area. Later in the day, you transfer to your hotel in Teverga. If weather turns bad, you can rent a bike to cycle through the Senda del Oso valley or visit the Prehistoric Park to see its unique museum of prehistoric paintings in natural caves.

Teverga
Your cab takes you to San Lorenzo Pass at 1345 m elevation. From there, you follow the scenic Camín Real de la Mesa, a high-altitude route with excellent panoramic views. You have the option to leave early at Urria after 14 km, or continue all the way to Santa Ana chapel. Bad weather brings the same alternatives as yesterday, cycling or visiting the Prehistoric Park museum.

Teverga to Valle del Lago (Somiedo)
This is the most dramatic hike of your trip. You'll walk the Camino Real de la Mesa ridge line with constant panoramic views stretching across two UNESCO Biosphere Reserves, Somiedo and Ubia-La Mesa. After 5 km, the route descends toward Arbellales and then down to Valle del Lago in Somiedo Natural Park. Keep watch for Cantabrian brown bears, which are fairly common throughout this area.

- Day 7
Valle del Lago (Somiedo)
You have options for spectacular walks within Somiedo Natural Park today. One route takes you to Lago del Valle by avoiding the most crowded trails, starting steep but rewarding you with wonderful valley views. The other heads up to Peña Salgada at 1945 m on a clear path through mountain pastures before returning to Valle del Lago. Both showcase the park's natural character.

Valle del Lago to Pola de Somiedo
Your hiking journey wraps up after breakfast. You'll do a short 7 km walk down to Pola de Somiedo, which is mostly descending 500 m, then catch the bus for your onward travels. It's time to reflect on the week you've spent hiking through Asturias's mountain landscape and natural reserves.
