I have question about this hiking tour. It is rated as "high intensity". Is this really difficult or it's possible for people with average fitness level? I plan to go with my 16 yrs old. We have hiking experiences locally in NY up to maybe 12 miles in a day, but the terrain may not be very steep since the mountains in NY is not very tall.

It does require a high level of fitness as it is a 4 out of 5 physical rating.

Day 2: São Jorge – Santana 6h / 14km with an elevation gain of 600 meters. Day 3: Pico do Arieiro 6h / 12km at highest altitude 1,859m. Day 4: Machico 6h / 14km with total incline of 400 meters. Day 5: Paul da Serra 6h / 14-15km with elevation gain of 650 meters.

Do you guys offer transfers to and from Madeira airport? If not, what would be the best way to get to the meeting point on the first day and at the airport on the last day? Is uber an option?

Unfortunately we do not offer transfers on our Europe tours. From Madeira Airport (FNC), you can reach the city centre of Santana in a few ways. By bus, exit the airport to the right and go to the bus stop "Cemitério-Zona 14." From there, you can take the 103 (Arco São Jorge Via Porto Cruz) or 138 (Cabanas Via Porto Cruz) and stop at Lubriana-Santana. The ride takes about 1 hour. To pre-arrange an arrival or departure transfer, we recommend you book through our preferred transfer provider - HolidayTaxis.
