I had an absolutely wonderful week enjoying Maderia's nature and culture. Joao was an incredible guide - so knowledgeable, accommodating, kind and patient the entire week. All the walks were beautiful and there was a nice balance of physical activity and down time. I felt very comfortable as a female solo traveler and really enjoyed the time we spent in nature. Two things to note - the airport transfers are included; however, I waited over an hour when I arrived only to realize that I had to wait for other group members to land. It would have been appreciated if this was communicated to me beforehand. Explore responded immediately via WhatsApp but failed to mention that I would need to wait for as long as I did. Secondly, Hotel do Carmo (the last hotel we stayed in) is undergoing extensive construction which iwas incredibly loud (throughout the entire day). Overall, I would highly recommend, especially if you can get Joao as your guide!

One tour guide was excellent ( Fernando), one for the levada hike and another for tour driver were not- rude, insulted and frustrated with passengers- not cool

We had the best tour leader (Tania). She was so knowledgeable about everything related to the Islands, history, geography, plants, wines, restaurants etc. The trip was so well organized. No detail was left unturned. Thanks for making this vacation one of my best ever. I miss our hiking group so much already but I have returned home holding the Azores in my heart. Barb
