We can offer the tour in July, but at that time of year, there are not many migratory whales passing by the Azores. They usually pass by here around springtime in March and April. In July, we can spot mostly sperm whales and different species of dolphins. The closest airport is João Paulo II, on São Miguel island. We have direct flights from major European airports like Lisbon and Paris. Also from Boston and JFK.

Could you please advise what spicies you can see in at the end of Aug / Sept? I really wanted to go to see as many big sea mammals as possible and "swim" with wild dolphins.

We can still watch Sperm whales (resident species) and many groups of dolphins. If your goal is to really try to watch a big diversity of cetacean species, I would suggest you postpone your trip to Spring next year.

I was told I was on a group holiday but it was only me! I got to the hotel and asked about Tourradar but they did not have a clue who I was talking about. I quickly read through my iternery and I went down to the dock to check things out. I arived there the next day spoke to girl on the counter and she had no idea about me. after half hour she found me. I was thinking was on the whale tour. It was cancelled. i walked back to the hotel. Thankfully the girl called me when I was back at the hotel to tell me I was on the trip. it was sad that i was on my own. I am a single traveler but enjoy company so I found that bit hard.Show more

My friend and I just got back from the Whale Migration Route tour operated by Futurismo Azores Adventures. Antilia Hotel where we stayed was excellent and was booked by Futurismo. The organisation and planning of the trips were very good. Unfortunately the whale watching trips were cancelled due to bad weather in the first half of the week. We went on two boat trips but did not see whales but saw two pods of dolphins. We saw the dolphins much better from the catamaran than from the Rib boat (Zodiac). The weather remained bad the whole time we were on the island. We also had two inland trips, which we enjoyed very much. My advice is to go to the Futurismo office when you get to Ponta Delgada and not to wait for Futurismo to contact you. Find out if the boat tours are cancelled and be pro-active and book alternative tours (inland trips). All tours get booked up quickly and there is a long list of people waiting for these tours. Azores is a beautiful place but there are not many cultural activities to do in Porta Delgada. All in all it was a good trip but disappointing at the same time because we went there specifically to see whales.Show more

  Summertime feels much better as the water is warmer (can reach up to 24 celsius degrees during August). We have a swimming with dolphins tour, where you can get into the water and watch them pass by. As they are wild, you won't be able to touch or feed them, only watch how they behave in their natural habitat.
