The hotels, food and CEOs were great and Ramiro was particularly passionate about his island (Terceiras). The hikes were described as moderate (3) but I think some of them have a greater degree of difficulty. Even some younger experienced hikers thought they should be rated a 4. I loved the awesome views and the hikes themselves and completed them all, hopefully without holding back the group. I loved the tour and very glad I did it, but it was more difficult than expected - with very rough terrain and steep climbs over rocks which made it hard at times to keep up with the younger hikers. Our group was fantastic - such lovely people and I enjoyed the company immensely.

Having previously explored Lisbon many years ago, we were eager to delve deeper into Portugal's diverse landscapes. Our second visit to Porto and Ponta Delgada, though bustling, reinforced our decision to return. The country's charm and hospitality are truly unmatched. Our accommodations, were impeccably located, clean, and comfortable. The Douro Valley hotel views were a standout. Sao Miguel Island, however, was the crown jewel of this trip and we will definitely be back to explore more islands in the Azores.

A very beautiful place with wonderful landscapes, thermal baths, cheese and wine. Our guide Sasha was lovely and very informative as well as delightful to talk too. I enjoyed all the activities but do ensure you were good shoes for the home. recommend that a visit to the cheese factory is added the morning you arrive on Sao Jorge.

- Winter 2025 / 2026
The Azores make for a wonderful winter destination, with genuine island experiences away from the peak season crowds. Our travelers particularly love exploring São Miguel's geothermal features, taking in Terra Nostra's warm pools and Furnas' volcanic cooking spots along the way. The guided walks around Sete Cidades work perfectly in winter, as the trails remain accessible and the crater views often show their most dramatic side. Marine life viewing hits its peak during winter months, with excellent chances to spot sperm whales and dolphins in their natural habitat. Multi-island tours connecting São Miguel, Terceira and also Pico deliver the fullest experience - each island reveals its unique character through guided cultural stops, while thermal springs and volcanic sites provide welcome warmth on cooler days. Mature travelers tend to prefer our gentler-paced walking tours around Ribeira Funda and Maia, which blend coastal paths with indoor activities like visits to Europe's oldest tea plantation and traditional pineapple farms. Winter visits come with better rates and more chances to experience local life, especially during those traditional meals cooked with volcanic heat in Furnas.
- Spring 2026
Spring brings prime whale watching alongside great hiking conditions across the Azores. Our top tours combine marine life spotting from Ponta Delgada with walks through São Miguel's volcanic terrain. From March through June, you'll join marine biologists tracking fin, blue and also Sei whales in their natural habitat. The spring hiking routes take you through the verdant paths of Sete Cidades, along Sao Jorge's coastal cliffs and also up to Pico's UNESCO vineyard landscapes before the summer crowds arrive. Many of our clients love combining guided walks with thermal pool visits - places like Terra Nostra gardens and Furnas valley hit the perfect temperature this time of year. The 7-14 day multi-island tours connect you with everything from Maia's seaside paths to Caldeira do Santo Cristo's lake views and also Faial's flower-dotted scenery.

Summer opens up the full range of outdoor activities across the islands. Our most popular tours mix morning kayaking on Sete Cidades lake with dips in Furnas' thermal pools and also hikes along São Jorge's dramatic ridges. You'll spend active mornings outdoors, then ease into afternoons exploring Ponta Delgada's old town or touring Europe's oldest tea producer at Gorreana. The multi-day walking tours really shine now, leading from Ribeira Funda's coastal trails to the geothermal sites of Furnas Valley and also up to the clear waters of Lagoa do Fogo crater lake. For the fullest experience, our 9-14 day island-hopping tours connect Pico's volcanic vineyards with Horta's marina life and also Terceira's UNESCO sites during the most reliable weather months.

Based on what our travelers tell us, G Adventures comes out as the top choice for exploring the Azores. Their Chief Experience Officers (CEOs) really know their stuff, and the food gets lots of praise from everyone who travels with them. What's nice is how they adjust the pace to fit the group - you won't feel rushed or held back. Wingbuddy gets good marks too, especially for their whale watching trips which many travelers say is a highlight. They've picked quality places to stay and put together smart itineraries that make sense. The whole experience feels relaxed but well-organized. Explore has some solid itineraries that cover a lot of ground in the Azores, but we're hearing mixed things about their guides. Several of our customers mentioned communication issues and some organizational hiccups that took away from the experience. As for Destination Services, they've had some problems keeping to their advertised plans. Our travelers report significant changes to their itineraries, and the company hasn't been great about communicating these changes effectively. For most people looking to visit the Azores, I'd point them toward G Adventures first - they consistently deliver what they promise, and their groups tend to come back happy and eager for more. Wingbuddy would be my second choice, especially if you're keen on whale watching and prefer a more laid-back approach.
