BUYER BEWARE Before you book anything with Encounters Travel, be SURE to read all of the fine print. This is especially important regarding their cancellation policy and the deposit you will forfeit. I didn't find that we'd completely lost our deposit until I contact the company to process a cancellation. I thought I could cancel for a full refund up until a certain point, but apparently I was mistaken. I booked a 3-night late-September boat trip at the end of May, and mid-June we realized we couldn't take it. It's been less than 3 weeks since I booked the trip and it's over 3 MONTHS until the trip will take place, so you know they will have no issue filling our two spots. Even so, we are out $250 each for our trip. They are within their rights to not refund the deposit - I should have waded through the fine print to find this buried detail. But they also have the choice to refund the deposit given the circumstances. Don't make the same mistake I did. READ EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU BOOK. Better yet, consider not booking with Encounters Travel.Show more

Dear Melissa G, We want to take the opportunity to respond since we don’t feel your review is entirely fair - a member of our Reservations team explained the booking conditions to you regarding cancellations by travellers for trips scheduled to depart. As we have explained, many financial elements are covered in the deposit amount – many of which are non-refundable to us as well. These include non-refundable card fees, non-refundable financial protection fees, agent fees (since you originally enquired via an agent), and the work and time put into processing a booking and making the arrangements. We may be able to fill the places on the trip that you have released, but also, we may not. This is why all tour operators have very similar cancellation policies, which work on a sliding scale with the penalty getting higher the closer you get to departure. We don't think it is fair to expect a full refund for a trip that one has booked and received a confirmation for, but no longer wishes to take.

The final payment will be automatically charged to your credit card on the designated due date. The final payment of the remaining balance is required at least 65 days prior to the departure date of your tour. TourRadar never charges you a booking fee and will charge you in the stated currency.
- Some departure dates and prices may vary and Encounters Travel will contact you with any discrepancies before your booking is confirmed.
