Reviews of Small Group tours to Turkey
- Absolutely Turkey (Small group tour)
The reason we chose this tour was based on our experience with a similar tour in Morocco. The first day itinerary takes you to the capitol where the only thing to see is a world class museum. The mausoleum of Kamal Ataturk while is significant for Turkish people, it can be easily missed. The long drive there is definitely not worth it. The second day is pretty much about the museum and the mausoleum visit, plus the underground city which was only a short welcome stop on a hot day. Third and fourth day in Cappadocia are probably the highlights is if you're lucky enough to do the hot air balloon ride. Not included in the price. The jeep ride is more for thrill seekers not worth the extra cost. Fourth and fifth days Pamukkale and Ephesus visits could be longer. Sixth day Pergamon, Troy are great. Seventh day on the drive back to Istanbul the WWI sites are interesting especially if you're from New Zeeland or Australia. Overall if I did want to do a tour of Turkey again I would chose a different itinerary and would spend time in Istanbul. Drive times were also long for frequent stops for bathroom breaks, that were rather cigarette brakes for the guides and the driver. The small bus was comfortable because of the size of the group, each person had a seat open next to them. Accommodations while they were advertised as 4 star, some were definitely way less than that. it would have been great to stay closer to the town center in Cappadocia, and maybe even in one the cave hotels. Food: breakfast and dinners were buffet style except in Ankara. Some better selections than others. The guide's English was ok for explanations given at third grade levels. I hope this review will help you make a decision to pick this tour.

What our customers ask about Turkey Small Group Tours
What is the typical group size for small group tours in Turkey?
Small group tours in Turkey typically host 12-14 travelers keeping the experience intimate. While some tours like the Turkey Explorer occasionally accommodate up to 19 people the smaller size allows for more personal attention. Boutique accommodations such as the Efe Boutique Hotel in Kusadasi and Melekler Evi Cave Hotel in Cappadocia are selected specifically for these smaller groups making the experience feel more like traveling with friends than a large tour group.
What types of accommodation can I expect on a small group tour in Turkey?
Small group tours focus on local authentic accommodations that showcase Turkish hospitality. Travelers stay in carefully selected properties like the Arte Cave Hotel in Cappadocia the Arden City Hotel in Istanbul's historic district and the Efe Boutique Hotel in Kusadasi. These properties offer a more personal connection to the destination compared to international chain hotels. As one TourRadar traveler mentioned: "The hotels were very comfortable and provided a perfect rest after long days of sightseeing. I particularly appreciated the intimate atmosphere of the boutique hotels."
How much free time is built into small group itineraries in Turkey?
The schedules blend guided activities with independent exploration. Travelers have free evenings in cities like Istanbul and Kusadasi plus flexible time in Cappadocia for optional activities. One TourRadar traveler noted: "Our guide gave us enough information about each day's itinerary and free time to explore on our own." The small group format allows for spontaneous stops at local markets viewpoints or other points of interest based on group preferences.
What is the average duration of small group tours in Turkey?
Most tours run between 7-11 days with 8-day itineraries like the Highlights of Turkey tour being the most common choice. This timeframe lets travelers explore major destinations including Istanbul Cappadocia Ephesus and Pamukkale while maintaining the benefits of traveling with a smaller group.
What's different about meal experiences on small group tours?
The smaller group size opens doors to authentic dining experiences at family-run establishments rather than tourist-oriented buffets. Groups can enjoy meals in traditional cave restaurants in Cappadocia or neighborhood eateries in Istanbul. One TourRadar traveler mentioned "We could eat at charming local places where our guide knew the owners instead of big tourist restaurants."
