  1. Day 1

    San Cristóbal

Your private guide will pick you up at the airport and drive you to the hotel. After grabbing lunch together, you'll head to the Interpretation Center to learn how the islands formed and their history, then hike up to Frigatebird Hill for views across the landscape. From there, you'll snorkel at either Tijeretas Bay or Carola Beach where sea lions, tropical fish, and sea turtles show up fairly often. The rest of the evening is open, so you can relax and find dinner on your own.

    San Cristóbal

You get to choose your adventure for the day. Option 1 takes you out to Kicker Rock (León Dormido) for snorkeling with sharks, rays, and turtles, including the possibility of hammerhead sharks. You'll have lunch on the boat and time at a secluded beach, then the afternoon is yours to watch the sunset at Playa Mann or take a taxi to La Lobiería for the Barranco cliff trail hike. Option 2 has you exploring Lobos Island instead, hiking through rough terrain and spotting blue-footed boobies, marine iguanas, and frigate birds. After snorkeling in clear waters, you'll visit the quiet Ochoa Beach. (Which island you visit depends on what the National Park has available.)

After that, you'll check out the Galapaguera de Cerro Colorado breeding center where you can see plants found nowhere else and learn about tortoise conservation. Lunch comes later in the highlands, then you'll head to Puerto Chino beach for some relaxation and birdwatching. Getting there's easy, just a short 15-minute walk on a well-maintained trail.

Once you arrive, a local guide helps you get to a ranch in the highlands where you can see giant tortoises in their natural surroundings grazing and soaking in muddy pools. After lunch at a local spot, you'll visit the Charles Darwin Research Station to see what the island ecosystems are like and learn about breeding programs. You can snorkel in shallow clear water to spot white-tipped reef sharks, tropical fish, sea lions, marine turtles, iguanas, manta rays, and more. The best part is snorkeling in clear waters among white-tipped reef sharks, sea turtles, playful sea lions, rays, seahorses, and tropical fish. The whole tour runs about five hours. These have been some fantastic days filled with experiences I’ll never forget. Every day was different; different species, different snorkling. We always got enough time to enjoy everything. The guides on the boats were great. I liked staying on the islands to get a feeling for the towns and the people. Hope to come back!
