Arrival
You'll arrive at your hotel and have the rest of the day to settle in. Take some time to walk around the area, get your bearings, and maybe grab dinner somewhere nearby. The King Ludwig Trail starts tomorrow morning.

Bernried to Diessen
Hop on a short train to Starnberg and begin the King Ludwig Trail in Maisinger Gorge. You'll walk through charming Bavarian villages with beer gardens along the way, then visit Andechs Monastery where they brew their own beer. After that, hike through Kiental Gorge before finishing with a boat ride to Diessen. The day covers about 21 km with 250 meters of climbing and takes roughly 5 to 6 hours total.

- Day 3
Diessen to Wessobrunn
Head out from Diessen on meadow paths toward the Silent Forest, a quiet, secluded area. You'll pass a castle chapel and continue over hilltops with good views stretching out. Later you'll reach Wessobrunn to see the Grey Duke bell tower and the Tassilo Linde tree. On clear days, the Zugspitze shows itself in the distance. This hike runs about 4 to 5 hours covering 13 km with 250 meters up and 100 meters down.

Landmarks Silent Forest Grey Duke Tassilo Linde - Day 4
Wessobrunn to Peiting
Walk through typical Bavarian villages and remote moor landscape throughout the morning. The day features a steep climb onto Hohen Peissenberg mountain where a weather station sits at the top. From there you'll see panoramic views across the Alps and into the Allgäu region. After taking in those views, descend to Hohenpeissenberg and make your way through forests and fields to Peiting. Expect about 4.5 hours of hiking covering 18 km with 500 meters of elevation gain and 450 meters of descent.

Landmarks Hohen Peissenberg - Day 5
Peiting to Rottenbuch area
Journey through the Ammer ravine with its rocky walls and small bridges crossing above the river. You'll reach Rottenbuch where an ornate monastery church stands waiting. From there, hike across hills and meadows with views of the Alpine range the whole way. The hike takes roughly 4 to 5 hours for 14 km with 400 meters up and 250 meters down to reach your destination.

Landmarks Ammer ravine Rottenbuch Monastery - Day 6
Rottenbuch to Buching
Hike through quiet forests and open moorlands on your way to Kirche in der Wies, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Follow the Brettlesweg trail through more forest and blooming meadows to reach Welfenmünster in Steingaden. From there, catch a bus to Buching for the afternoon. This section covers 11 km over roughly 4 hours with 150 meters of elevation gain and 250 meters of descent.

Landmarks Kirche in der Wies Welfenmünster - Day 7
Buching to Füssen
Cross through nature reserves near and past Lake Hegratsried, and you'll have a choice on how to spend your day. Option one takes you along Lake Forggensee toward Füssen. Option two heads uphill past Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles and Lake Schwansee. Either way, you'll end the day in the historic market town of Füssen after moving along Kalvarienberg. Count on about 4.5 hours covering 17 km with 300 meters of climbing and 300 meters of descent.
