10 Day Germany Itinerary, incl. Berlin and Munich
A 10-day German tour takes you through 4 major cities. Marvel at Berlin's Brandenburg Gate, Dresden's baroque quarter, medieval Rothenburg, and Munich's Marienplatz. The journey includes a tour of Neuschwanstein Castle and a boat ride on Königssee.
- Days 1-2
Berlin
Start in Berlin with time to adjust to jet lag. Book a flight that lands before 2 PM to avoid rush hour traffic from BER airport. On day two, take the morning walking tour at 10 AM near Brandenburg Gate. Bring €5-10 cash for the guide. Visit Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp Memorial in the afternoon. It's 45 minutes from Berlin by S-Bahn. Plan your visit around closing times: 6 PM in summer and 4:30 PM in winter.

Dresden
Take an early train from Berlin Hauptbahnhof to Dresden (2.5 hours). You can store your luggage at Dresden's central station for €5 to explore the rebuilt old town right away. The next day, visit Bastei Bridge in Saxon Switzerland National Park. Take S-Bahn S1 to Pirna, then bus 237 to Bastei. The trip takes about an hour. Get there before 11 AM to beat the crowds.

Nuremberg
The train to Nuremberg takes 4 hours from Dresden. Stay near the Altstadt for easy access to main sights. Take a day trip to Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Trains run every hour and take 1.5 hours each way. Visit between 8-10 AM before tour groups arrive to see this medieval town at its best.

Munich
It's a 2-hour train ride from Nuremberg to Munich. Walk around the historic center and Marienplatz. For Neuschwanstein Castle, book the 9 AM tour and arrive 30 minutes early for tickets. Want to see Königssee? Take the early regional train to Berchtesgaden (2.5 hours) and bus 841 to the lake. The 8:30 AM boat gives you the best views before the midday haze.

Departure
Book afternoon flights from Munich Airport. Morning traffic can be unpredictable. The S-Bahn from central Munich takes 45 minutes. Give yourself extra time during rush hour.

Bamberg

- Day 2
Bamberg to Hassfurt (42km)
Cycle the well-maintained Main Cycle Path. The flat route works well for beginners. Stop at the Maria Limbach pilgrim church, a beautiful baroque building by Balthasar Neumann. The ride takes 4-5 hours with photo stops. Stay overnight in quiet Hassfurt.

Hassfurt to Volkach (55km)
The riverside path takes you past private castles to the wine village of Volkach. Look for signs along the well-marked route. Pack a basic repair kit since bike shops are limited in this rural area. Visit the baroque Schelfenhaus palace and try some local Silvaner wine in the evening.
- Day 4
Volkach to Würzburg (65km)
A longer ride through Franconia's best wine country. Take a lunch break in Sommerach or Dettelbach. In Würzburg, make time for the UNESCO-listed Residence Palace. A recent cyclist shared: "The view of Marienberg Fortress from the Old Main Bridge at sunset is stunning - arrive by 6 PM if possible to catch the golden hour."
- Day 5
Würzburg to Lohr am Main (60km)
Visit the Veitshöchheim Rococo Garden before cycling to medieval Karlstadt for coffee. The path stays mostly flat but gets crowded in summer. Start early to beat the heat. Your day ends in Lohr am Main, said to be the inspiration for Snow White.
- Days 6-7
Lohr to Wertheim (44km) and on to Miltenberg (36km)
Two easier days let you explore tiny Rothenfels and Wertheim Castle. The medieval Market Square in Miltenberg offers great photos. Pick hotels in the old town centers.
- Day 8
Miltenberg to Aschaffenburg (40km)
Ride through Klingenberg's red wine region. The path follows the river closely, perfect for cooling off on warm days. Check out the unusual Pompejanum in Aschaffenburg, a recreated Roman villa.
- Day 9
Aschaffenburg to Frankfurt (56km)
Take the small ferry across the Main at Seligenstadt, then continue through Hanau, where the Brothers Grimm were born. Watch for commuter bikes near Frankfurt. Finish at the Museumsufer district and celebrate with apple wine in Sachsenhausen.

Frankfurt
Explore Frankfurt's mix of modern and historic sights. The city's bike paths make it simple to return your rental bike anywhere central.
