    Turkmenistan – Visa & Entry Information
    Travelers to Turkmenistan generally need a Letter of Invitation (LOI) and a tourist visa. The LOI is arranged in advance through a licensed Turkmen tour operator and usually takes around 15 working days.
    
    A printed copy of the LOI must be presented upon arrival.
    
    Arrival by air:
    Upon arrival at Ashgabat International Airport, travelers complete the required health formalities, receive their visa based on the LOI, pass through immigration, and collect their luggage.
    
    The visa fee is usually paid in cash in USD (approximately USD 100–120, depending on nationality).
    
    Arrival by land: Travelers go through passport, health, and customs checks on both sides of the border.
    
    There is usually a 1–1.5 km neutral zone, which may be crossed on foot or by local shuttle.
    The process can take some time, so patience is recommended.
    
    Our local guide or driver will assist with the border crossing whenever possible.

    This trip starts in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. On Day 1, you will arrive early in Ashgabat and head to your hotel to settle in. After breakfast, your guide will take you on a tour of the capital, beginning at the Sunday Bazaar, where you can see the famous Akhal-Teke horses. From there, you will visit the impressive Ertogrul Ghazi Mosque and then continue on foot past several key landmarks, including the Lenin Monument, Independence Park, Rukhnama, Neutrality Arch, the Ferris Wheel, and the Magtymguly Monument.

    All travelers, regardless of their nationality, must obtain a visa to enter Turkmenistan. The good news is that the visa application process is not as complicated as it might seem at first glance.
    
    Because the U.S. State Department cannot assist with private letters of invitation, independent tourists must book a tour through a local licensed agency in Turkmenistan. This is the easiest and most reliable way. We at Central Asia Travel work with reliable, licensed local partners in Turkmenistan who will streamline and expedite the entire process of submitting a Letter of Invitation (L.O.I.).
    
    Before we move on to the details, please note that you should plan your visit to Turkmenistan at least one month before your expected arrival date.

    Yes, the PCR test for COVID-19 is still required upon arrival in Turkmenistan. However, in practice, this is now more of a formal procedure, and tourists are not placed in quarantine.
    
    Regarding the guide arrangement: "partial guiding service" means that we provide separate local guides in each country along the route. During international flights and border crossings between the countries, the guide will not accompany the group. However, you will still be traveling together with the other tour participants.

    You should also bring a small amount of USD cash for personal expenses while traveling in Turkmenistan. These dollars can be exchanged into the local currency for daily payments, as international bank cards are generally not accepted there.
