How does upgrading hotels work? How can I recognize the costs? Is it possible to eat outside of the hotels? The tour sounds very scheduled. Can I live a bit more self-determined or should I look for another tour?

Yes, it is absolutely possible to upgrade to 4-star or 4–5-star hotels, especially towards the end of your trip for a more relaxing stay. You are not required to eat all your meals at the hotels. It is definitely possible to eat outside in local restaurants and explore on your own. We are happy to inform you that pickup from your hotel in Beruwala (Barberyn Resort) on 28 December is absolutely possible, so there is no need for you to travel to Negombo. Please note that an additional fee of approximately 40–50 USD will be applicable for this pickup, due to the distance.

We offer single rooms for solo travelers. If there is another solo traveler of the same gender on the tour, we can arrange shared accommodation. Otherwise, a single supplement would apply. Yala National Park is well known for leopard sightings and offers one of the best chances to see leopards in Sri Lanka. Minneriya National Park is famous for elephants, especially large herds, and is primarily focused on elephant sightings. As for activities not included in the base itinerary, there are a few optional experiences. The total cost for all optional activities is approximately USD 300 per person, which includes both safari experiences. A detailed breakdown can be shared closer to confirmation. Yes, there is an opportunity to arrange a Sri Lankan cooking lesson or cooking demonstration, and we would be happy to include this experience during the tour if you are interested.

The Sri Lanka Hiking, Wild Glamping and Safari Tour follows a slightly different route and includes more outdoor and nature-based activities. This tour features several hikes that are not included in the All Island Classic Tour, along with safari experiences and unique wild glamping stays. Overall, both tours visit many of the same key areas; however, the Hiking, Wild Glamping and Safari Tour includes additional hiking routes and more adventure-focused locations that are not part of the Classic Tour.

Day 14 Colombo city tour can you tell me the places that we would see during this part of the tour as there are some places that I would really like to see. Also, there are couple of other places that i would like to see but you do not include them in tour they are Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage and Haputale - Poke trail hike - Hindu Kovils - tea plantations and Tamil village is there any way that these places could be seen during the trip and if so is there any extra costs for these. Which parts of this tour have been most affected by the November cyclone and what will the itinerary be likely to look like for the April tours

Following our update from Mango Vacations, the November cyclone has had limited impact on the itinerary. The only section affected was the train line to Ella, which sustained some damage. An alternative scenic train route is currently being organized and can be included in the itinerary. The damaged section of the Ella train route is expected to be fully restored within the next two months, well ahead of your April 2026 departure. All other parts of the tour were not affected, and destinations, hotels, excursions, and road transfers are fully operational and running as normal. For the April 2026 tours, the itinerary is therefore expected to run as originally planned, with either the standard Ella train journey reinstated or a suitable alternative if required, ensuring no loss of experience.

We have just come home from doing the Sri Lanka Island Classic Tour with Mango Vacations. We had a fantastic time. The animal safaris were a huge highlight. In Sigiriya we were able to see so many Elephants up close. It was such a great experience. In Yala we saw three, three!!! Leopards. So lucky. The tour was paced well, our guide, Vishwa was exceptional. He was informative, super helpful, nothing was too much. Sri Lanka is a beautiful country with wonderful people. The food is so delicious. This tour has something for everyone. We highly recommend it to other travellers interested in culture, history, nature and breathtaking scenery.Show more

I have recently returned from a 16 day trip to Sri Lanka with three friends of mine. Our holiday was organised and coordinated solely by Mango Vacations. They organised a full itinerary which included our own transport and driver for the duration, expeditions, and hotels that we had selected. The holiday was really fabulous. The hotels were all of a very high standard in superb locations. This was my first trip to Sri Lanka and has proven to be one of my own holiday favourites. However, the holiday was made complete by our driver and guide Hasanka. From the beginning it was obvious that he was a safe pair of hands. He was an excellent driver. Always punctual and polite, it was obvious that he was experienced in this role. He proved to be very flexible and on several occasions suggested slight timing changes to the itinerary when and where appropriate which benefited the group as a whole. On our excursions he appeared very knowledgeable and he seemed genuinely pleased to share this with us and it was fascinating to spend time with him, and learn all about his country’s ways , religion and customs. He was also very helpful and supportive and seemed able to judge the physical limitations of members of the group. He seemed to know if any of us appeared to be struggling physically during the days activities and was always ready with a location to stop for a break. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Overall, our tour of Sri Lanka was wonderful. Our driver/guide Pavi looked after us beautifully and helped us get the most out of our visit, always ready to take us to additional places in which we expressed an interest. The itinerary was great and included the iconic sights and experiences in Sri Lanka. We asked Mango Vacations to book us one night at the beginning and two nights at the end of our tour for which we were charged $200 AUD per night. As we wanted to explore Negombo, the closest city to the airport, we requested an extra night there before we started our trip. The hotel (Pegasus Reef), while quite nice, was nowhere near Negombo and we had to take a 45-minute Uber trip to get into Negombo. Additionally, the area surrounding the hotel did not have did not have any obvious shops, banks or other facilities, leaving us feeling like we were in the middle of nowhere. At the end of the tour, we were booked in to the Fairway Hotel in Colombo. The rooms were much smaller than ones we had previously on the tour and the food was nowhere near as good as that we had had in other hotels. It was therefore very disappointing to do a quick search of the internet and find the nightly tariff, including breakfast, for both these hotels was well below the $200 per night that Mango Vacations had charged us.Show more

  Yes, it is absolutely possible to upgrade to 4-star or 4–5-star hotels, especially towards the end of your trip for a more relaxing stay. Please let me know your preferred option (4-star or 4–5-star), or if you already have specific hotels in mind. I will then calculate the additional costs for you and send you a detailed quotation. You are not required to eat all your meals at the hotels. It is definitely possible to eat outside in local restaurants and explore on your own. The tour is designed to be flexible, so you can enjoy some independence while still having the comfort of an organized itinerary. If you prefer more free time, we can also adjust the program accordingly. Yes, basic English is absolutely sufficient. The drive to Negombo usually takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours, so you will arrive by early afternoon.   We offer single rooms for solo travelers. If there is another solo traveler of the same gender on the tour, we can arrange shared accommodation. Otherwise, a single supplement would apply. Yala National Park is well known for leopard sightings and offers one of the best chances to see leopards in Sri Lanka. Minneriya National Park is famous for elephants, especially large herds, and is primarily focused on elephant sightings. As for activities not included in the base itinerary, there are a few optional experiences. The total cost for all optional activities is approximately USD 300 per person, which includes both safari experiences. A detailed breakdown can be shared closer to confirmation. Yes, there is an opportunity to arrange a Sri Lankan cooking lesson or cooking demonstration, and we would be happy to include this experience during the tour if you are interested.

Day 14 Colombo city tour can you tell me the places that we would see during this part of the tour as there are some places that I would really like to see. Also, there are couple of other places that i would like to see but you do not include them in tour they are Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage and Haputale - Poke trail hike - Hindu Kovils - tea plantations and Tamil village is there any way that these places could be seen during the trip and if so is there any extra costs for these.   Following our update from Mango Vacations, the November cyclone has had limited impact on the itinerary. The only section affected was the train line to Ella, which sustained some damage. An alternative scenic train route is currently being organized and can be included in the itinerary. The damaged section of the Ella train route is expected to be fully restored within the next two months, well ahead of your April 2026 departure. All other parts of the tour were not affected, and destinations, hotels, excursions, and road transfers are fully operational and running as normal. For the April 2026 tours, the itinerary is therefore expected to run as originally planned, with either the standard Ella train journey reinstated or a suitable alternative if required, ensuring no loss of experience.
