Plus provided the history, geography and religious backgound of this gem of an island. Highly recommended and if possible ask for Vish (Vishwa Lakshan) as your guide, as he is so enthusiastic and keen to help.

We are 2 Australian friends who went on a 14 day tour in February 2025, meeting 3 other ladies (from USA/Austria) and our amazing driver/guide/now friend Vishwa Lakshan.
Vish clearly communicated at the start of the tour the need for everyone to be respectful and flexible, given it is a group tour and it’s possible not everyone wants to do or see the same things. Fortunately our group were very much on the same page in this regard, and everything ran smoothly. An example, I wanted to go white water rafting, most of the others hadn’t really considered it prior, yet all jumped at the suggestion and it was another fun experience we shared together.
The group gelled together really quickly and within just the first couple of hours we were chatting and laughing our heads off, and this continued for the whole time. Vish quickly picked up the vibe and joined in the banter which made this even more fun! In a lovely touch, we have all continued to stay in touch since we went our separate ways and headed home.
Vish is an excellent driver and we were very surprised how comfortable we were with him behind the wheel, despite the apparent craziness on the roads compared to what we are used to in Australia. Seems very odd to say, given driving conditions in Sri Lanka, but speaking for myself, it’s the safest I’ve ever felt on the roads. He never exhibited any road rage, always cool, calm and collected, and the only way we could tell he had any frustration from traffic was a cute little humming noise. Lol
It’s also wonderful being able to combine a driver with a tour guide. Vish speaks excellent English and explained so much about what we were seeing, the history behind things, and was able to answer our many, many questions (some crazier than others)!
He was also our “Mr-Fix-It.” Any problems we encountered, he took control and got things sorted with calmness and patience. He was able to adapt our itinerary on the run dependant on weather conditions and how we were travelling timewise. He recognised when the group was tired and needed a bit of a sleep in, or when we were energised and could take on anything. He allowed sufficient downtime by being attentive to our needs. We didn’t miss out on anything we wanted to see or do in our jam packed adventures! Vish wasn’t demanding that we fit in with his schedule, he fitted into ours. If we wanted to stop for something to eat, no problem, money changers or ATMs, no problem, take a longer time wandering around somewhere, no problem. Vish was our liaison with the locals, with any extra tours we chose to do, he connected us up and made sure we were taken good care of (on the odd occasion he wasn’t joining us). It appears everyone in the country knows Vish! He has friends everywhere.
Just when you think the bloke can’t be any better, he’s also a brilliant photographer/videographer, and the most patient IT wizard. At different times we all had the odd tech issue, but Vish would take it and work his way through the issues calmly and methodically.
Vish also went totally above and beyond. We were hoping to meet up with my English cousins who were also travelling through Sri Lanka at the same time. On a couple of occasions we were staying in the same towns. The first catchup, Vish kindly offered to drive us there and back, even though it had been a very long day and we were willing to take a tuk tuk (we were able to convince him to stay and have a drink with us rather than drive back and forth). For the second occasion he arranged a restaurant he knew would be just the type we like (he was right), for our whole tour group to also come along and meet my cousins for dinner and a catchup. Nobody would have blamed him if he said “not my problem” and just wanting to get to his accommodation and relax after a long day behind the wheel, but he always put us first and we are so appreciative of that fact. He also arranged a bit of a night out/party for our tour group which was a lot of fun and just added to the camaraderie amongst us all.
Cannot believe how much we fitted into our trip! History, Temples, Ancient Ruins and Relics, plus Sri Lankan Culture (including dance and cuisine). So many Animals (elephant orphanage/safaris/whale watching/plus all the animals you just see on the roads and out and about.). We may not have seen a sloth bear, but we saw leopards, heaps of elephants, water buffalo, birdlife, crocs, monkeys and so much more.
The scenery was beautiful, in particular the mountains, forests and tea plantations. The train from Ambewela to Demodara (just past Ella where the Nine Arch Bridge is) was an absolute highlight! We wish we had been able to spend more time in these gorgeous mountains.
The other mention we would like to make was how Vish arranged other drivers for us on the couple of occasions that our plans were slightly different from the rest of the tour group, be it when we went glamping at Yala and on one separate safari to the group (he also arranged that safari for us), or staying in a different town at the end of the trip. He always advised the night before the name of our driver, photo of him and his vehicle with number plate, and had them well aware of where we needed to go and what we wanted to do on the way, so we still enjoyed other sights and activities, and we always got collected and where we needed to be at the correct time.
Mango were able to adjust our itinerary to meet our needs and it was wonderful to be able to deal with a local Sri Lankan business, and keep our tourist dollars in Sri Lankan pockets. They were significantly cheaper than several “foreign” agencies who likely would have booked the locals for our tour, but pocketed a big “commission” on top of it. Why spend more money on something we easily arranged directly ourselves?
We admit to being a tad nervous leading into our first ever group tour, but after having the most amazing experience we would not only recommend it, we’d also do it again! We hope to head back to Sri Lanka on another trip in coming years to visit the other parts of the country that we didn’t have time for and will be definitely looking to use Mango Vacations and book Vish again. Hopefully with our Austrian and American friends too and get the machans back together.

Vish, our guide, was outstanding. He was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and fully engaged our three children throughout. It was fascinating to hear so much about the history and culture of Sri Lanka and it really brought everything we were seeing to life.
The travelling between destinations was seamless and Vish was flexible throughout, even working with us to charge last part of our trip at our request. Nothing was too much trouble for him.
We all truly enjoyed his company, he is very easy to spend time with as a family and the children especially enjoyed playing cricket with him at any opportunity!

A huge part of what made this trip so special was our wonderful guide, Vishwa. His kindness, calm presence, and safe driving gave us total peace of mind. He not only shared his deep knowledge and love for his country but made us feel genuinely welcomed everywhere we went.
And I’ll never forget my birthday surprise — a cake with candles, brought out in the middle of the jungle! It was thoughtful, magical, and totally unexpected.
Sri Lanka has been a true discovery for us — beautiful landscapes, incredibly warm and generous people, and absolutely delicious food. We’re heading home with full hearts and lifelong memories.

Vish was our guide around Sri Lanka for the first week of April. It’s difficult to describe just how brilliant he was. From the moment he picked us up we knew it would be a fun and stress free week. From the moment he picked us up we knew it would be a fun and stress free week. My wife and I were travelling with our two children aged 11 and 8. From the start he made it clear his priority was to ensure we all felt safe and all enjoyed our experiences as much as possible. Over the week we visited Temples, climbed the Sigiriya Lion Rock for sunrise, did safaris, boat trips, visited tea plantations, spice and gem museums, did a train ride from Nanu Oya to Ella, visited waterfalls, viewpoints and the Nine Arch Bridge. Vish coordinated everything brilliantly. He was so knowledgeable answering all our questions and giving us so much information about this wonderful country including its heritage and customs. We were really able to relax and enjoy all our experiences knowing we were in safe hands. Nothing was too much trouble from helping us exchange money, helping our daughter find a ball, buying train tickets, finding amazing lunch stops, even switching things around to accommodate us and the weather. Over the week Vish went from being our guide to being our friend. Had we known beforehand how good he would be we would have extended our adventures by another week. Saying goodbye was horrible, especially for our kids. Vish is immensely polite, helpful, knowledgeable, funny, kind, caring and many other wonderful things that make him the perfect guide and representative for this amazing country. We have already recommended him to several people and will definitely be coming back so he can show us the parts of the country we didn’t get to!

This was a great tour to get a overview of what Sri Lanka has to offer. We were given options based on our interests which made it nice as everyone could choose activities based on preference. I enjoyed that we had a small group which made it feel like family. Our guide Vishwa was great as he made me feel as we were traveling with a local friend instead of being on a tour. Sri Lanka is a beautiful country and has so much to offer. When l return l will book with Mango Vacations and request Vish.

It was a bespoke package with 8 days touring the central and southern part of the island and then 10 days at a beach side hotel. This has been a truly unforgettable experience. From our first contact with Mr Nadeeka, owner of Mango Vacations, we have been impressed with the desire to meet our needs and communications throughout have been excellent.
We stayed in 4 star hotels during the first part of the holiday and during the final beach part at the 5 star Occidental Eden Beruwala. All have been excellent with such nice, friendly and helpful staff. The first part included historical visits, two safaris, climbing Lions Rock, a tea factory, 3 1/2 hour train ride and several fascinating temples including the famous Buddhist temple in Kandy.
We were blessed to have Vishwa Lakshan as our driver and guide for the first part of the holiday. Vishwa is a true star, he made our first week so enjoyable, interesting and fun. He is an excellent safe driver, his English excellent and his knowledge unmatched. He is even an excellent photographer using our camera much better than us! He seemed to have friends or contacts everywhere we went so knew how to navigate queues, the best currency rates, shops and where to eat etc. He had previously looked after our son’s family last summer who recommended him to us. Indeed they are returning this summer when Vishwa will again be their driver and guide.
This was our Golden Wedding Anniversary holiday, thank you Mango Vacations, Mr Nadeeka and Vishwa for making it so special and memorable. A thank you also to the friendly people of Sri Lanka and your beautiful island.

The first 1/2 was jammed packed with many historical sites and cultural experiences. The 2nd 1/2 was more relaxing and laid back. The owner of the company could have more of an effort to email the requested information sooner than one week before departure. The only request I would make is to offer another time to climb Sigiriya Lion Rock. No one wanted to climb at 4:30 but offering a later time (6:30) would have been preferred by the group . The hotels were all top notch in good locations with swimming pools. Vishwa was always available to answer any questions and help with anything that was requested. Awesome tour.

All of our questions were answered prior to our booking the tour. The tour itself was excellent and the quality of the accommodations were outstanding, as good as the 5 star hotels that we stayed at …All of our questions were answered prior to our booking the tour. Excellent value for the money and the itinerary was perfect with some down time as well. The only part I didn't like was the 2 nights in Nuwara. Found it a little isolating.
Was very happy when Mango Vacations arranged to have us picked up and taken to the next location after our original flight was cancelled. Our guide, Vish, was very knowledgeable, a great driver amongst the crazy drivers in Sri Lanka and all around fun to be with. My recent trip to Sri Lanka was nothing short of spectacular, offering the perfect balance of history, culture, nature, and relaxation. From ancient ruins and majestic temples to stunning beaches and thrilling safaris, this trip had it all.
A highlight of the experience was our incredible tour guide, Wish. Not only was he knowledgeable and helpful, but he also had an amazing talent for capturing the most beautiful moments with his photography skills! His dedication to making the trip enjoyable and memorable truly stood out.
Exploring the historic sites transported me to another era, while the breathtaking beaches provided the perfect backdrop for relaxation. The safaris were exhilarating, offering close encounters with Sri Lanka's diverse wildlife—a dream come true for any nature enthusiast.
Every day brought a new adventure and a deeper appreciation for this beautiful country. Sri Lanka's rich culture, warm hospitality, and stunning landscapes make it a destination I would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone seeking a fulfilling and diverse travel experience.

It was the first time my wife and I have been on holiday in Sri Lanka …Vishwa Lakshan - Awesome guide
Summary: Vishwa is an outstanding guide and I highly recommend him – further comments below.
It was the first time my wife and I have been on holiday in Sri Lanka (19 days), our first time on a private tour, we were not sure what to expect.
Vishwa met us in Negombo at an Air B&B we had booked – the air B&B was tricky to find but he showed up on time, with a smiling face and an air conditioned car, we were off to a good start.
From there, there was so much sight seeing for the first few days. But before that, on the first day of travel, he asked us where we would like to have lunch, both of us immediately said, something local and with good spice. Vishwa took us to a small, but well established buffet for lunch ( and by that I mean an off the road restaurant with exceptionally good food and exceptionally good spice and if you like hot curries and chillies then you would be fine). After enjoying a really good meal (given we enjoyed the food and the spice - Vishwa said there would be no problem taking us to all the special food places he knew). Vishwa introduced us throughout the tour to some amazing foods and some awesome off the normal track places to eat.
Getting back to seeing the historical sites, we saw many. Vishwa’s overall knowledge of Sri Lanka, it’s history, politics, Temples, local religions, Flora and Fauna is outstanding. What is most impressive is that he finds a way to weave it into your overall experience and not overwhelm you with too much information all at once. I actually learned things about the Sri Lankan people that I will remember.
Vishwa was also very patient and caring. Climbing Lion Rock (~1200 Steps) is a major task for middle aged people like us, he never rushed us and making it to the top was awesome and he shared in our success and we all had selfies together. After climbing Lion Rock, I added another 300 steps for Dambulla Cave in the same day. That whole day almost killed me, but I made it, it was 100% worth it, and I learned more at Dambulla Cave about Buddha than anywhere else.
We also chose to go off the normal track and experience Ambuluwawa – if you have the time it was well worth the trip, we climbed up to the 10-11th floor – after that it gets a bit doddgy as the stairs become very narrow, but the views are great. You can get great photos from the 10th floor.
Moving on to the Safaris, we did two they both were awesome. The safari in Kawudulla National Park (lots of Elephants – about 90++ -- the most wild elephants I’ve ever seen in my entire life) and Yala National Park where we actually saw three Leopards and an elephant that wanted to get very, very close and say hello). These excursions are a must, while I can’t confirm that you will see either elephants or Leopards (as they are wilde animals) you would be doing yourself a disfavour if you didn’t try. Vishwa organise both of these for us. He also came along on the Safari but I also loved that fact that he was just as excited to see the elephants and the Leopards as we were. Trust me, seeing them in the wild is an awesome experience.
Driving & Safety – Driving in Sri Lanka is nothing like driving in Australia. Having said that, Vishwa is an extremely good driver (in Sri Lanka) & I always felt comfortable.
I get the feeling that Vishwa loves his role as guide and driver and he was always available and willing to go the extra mile and help in any way he could.
If you are willing to lean into a rich and fulfilling Sri Lankan experience and open to trust someone like Vishwa to show you the best Sri Lanka has to offer, then you will enjoy a tour with him.
I highly recommend Vishwa.

Our guide Vishwa Lakshan was just incredible. He made our holiday so special for us all. He speaks perfect English, he’s clever and so knowledgeable. But, more importantly so kind, thoughtful and generous with his time. My kids adore him, as do we. We are coming back next year, and have already booked him. The best English speaking tour guide in Sri Lanka.

We got to se a lot of history and culture. A lot of nice views. Our highpoint was probably the elephant safari and the Safari in Yala.
Our trip was well organized, and a big shout out too our driver that got us safe wherever we went in a quite chaotic traffic. Glad i didn't drive. Great Hotels they had booked for us. They where excellent when some itinerary was cancelled too find new itinerary's. All inn all we had a very nice family holiday, and will probably visit more times. Loved the people, loved the green nature.

My husband and myself booked our flights to go to Sri Lanka. We planned on spending 12 days there. I searched many companies from the internet and emailed many too. The first company to come back to me was Mango-vacations. Other companies i still haven’t had any replies from, and we’ve been and returned now ?I asked many questions about a suitable itinerary for our time there and if we could also arrange to have a driver/guide, who could collect us on our arrival at the airport and drop us back for our departure at the end of our travel. It was Nadeeka that i had all my email correspondence through. He answered any questions i had. We changed some things on the itinerary that we especially wanted to do and others that we didn’t. Then we went ahead and booked our tour.
On our arrival we were greeted at the airport by Vishwa our tour guide and driver for the next 12 days. We made friends very quickly with our guide and had some great conversations and laughs throughout our trip. Our car was very clean and comfortable with air conditioning. He accompanied us with all our sightseeing and explained the history about the area, temples etc. We said we’d like to have some tickets for the viewing gallery on the train trip from Nuwara Eliya to Ella. It is very hard to get hold of these tickets as they are sold out very quickly, but we were promised some and they kept their promise. Vishwa was always checking if we were happy with everything and would always message us later after checking into a new hotel to make sure everything was ok.
Thank goodness that we chose to travel with this company, as we had the most amazing, honest, trustworthy and friendly people around us. Vishwa even doubles up as a good photographer too ??

Our itinerary was Negombo (1 night) - Sigiriya (3) - Kandy (1) - Nuwara Eliya (2) - Yala (1) - Mirissa (4) - Negombo (2)
containing 6 Unesco world heritage sites and three safaris (Minneriya NP, Yala NP, Madu river). Hotels very good 3*.
Our guide and driver, Mr Vishwa - young and energetic guy was superb friendly and knowledgable persons. During the two weeks time
we had very nice and interesting discussions about Sri Lankan culture, history, living etc.
Each day Vishwa told us the day itinerary and we were able to adjust that easy during the day. And when we arrived to the hotel
he always check with us the room and helped with the luggages. He also kept the agreed timings and was always reachable
through WhatsApp if any questions or concerns raised from our side. In addition he also walked with us to several places
(Lion’s rock, Dambulla, Mini Adam’s Peak) and was also in the safaris with us to search and point interesting animals etc.
We had a small Toyota sedan car with us with A/C of course, and only once we had flat tyre but Vishwa fixed it quickly.
If you are thinking to travel to Sri Lanka it is much easier to book good guide and driver and you can just enjoy.

What I’ve noticed is that they are proactive and always learning what is best (tours and guides, excursions and activities, shops, restaurants, hotels, spas, etc.) for their clients. So they can always make better recommendations for their next clients. And I definitely benefited from this. I totally felt I got the best tour driver and car service in Sri Lanka. They did not disappoint but they went beyond my expectations.
Reasons why I had chosen them in the first place, one is because I saw the great reviews especially from solo female travelers. Another reason was because Nadeeka is easy to communicate with. He understood my English straight away and he responded with good command of English. I compared this to other tour companies I was liaising with and the other tour companies were challenging because they could not communicate well in English. For me this was important so I could be able to tell the company what I wanted and needed for my vacation. And lastly, they offered me a good rate and offered recommendations for different parts of my proposed 11 day tour with them.
I came as a solo female traveler and had a great time. I had two drivers. 1st was Vishwa. He really knew and recommended a lot of the best stuff to me. He would check on me every now and then if I needed anything and offer his assistance. He even took some great photos of me. Vishwa is also easy to communicate with. He is very friendly and it was great to have some good chats as we were driving to different locations. I would look no further to find a better driver - Vishwa is the best!
Unfortunately, Vishwa had to take leave for an important personal matter which we had chatted about along the trip and I understood this was important to him so I let him go. (The drivers are human beings too so I care about their needs as well).
Rasin was then my next driver and he was also a good one. He would also check on me if I needed anything and be there to assist and find what I needed.
For 11 days, from Colombo-Sigiriya-Kandy-Nallathanniya-Nuwara Eliya-Haputale-Ella-Negombo, I’ve seen a lot in just this short time. Thanks to these guys. I will definitely recommend their services to my friends and anyone interested. And hopefully one day I can pass through this country again and see some other parts of it with Mango Vacations.

Vish and his team are excellent. We have seen some amazing parts of Sri Lanka - some world famous and many off the beaten track. Good with our kids, good with us. On hand all the time - we are so impressed and lucky that we found someone from so far away that is first class.
We queued for fuel for a total of about 30 minutes but the situation is far better than you read. Food too is not a problem. There are power outages in the evening for about an hour but most places have a generator. These are due to the islands main power station undergoing repair and not a direct result of fuel shortages as they still run off coal.
Vish has shown us such a range of wonderful places - Sri Lanka is stunning. It has a relaxed smoothness about it everywhere and at all times - despite the poverty here.
Tourists are a way forwards for Sri Lanka. We have felt safe with our kids -11, 14 and 17 at all times and would recommend Mango Vacations without hesitation. The main office is in touch every 3 days or so just to make sure all is ok.
We started in Negombo, then Sigiria, Kandy, Newara, Ella, Marissa and are currently in Enawatoma for the last 3 days.
If you are thinking of coming in September to January, you won’t be disappointed.

The trip turned out to be absolutely amazing largely thanks to Vishwa who went above and beyond to make sure I had an excellent time. We started the trip in the cultural triangle area, covering main sights such as Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa, Hurulu eco park and so forth, aside from that, Vishwa also showed me nice spots he found that are off the beaten path, where you can have a cold beer and enjoy the sunset.
When we got to Hills country, we did many treks and hikes, all of which Vishwa wasn’t obligated to accompany me as his responsibility was just driving, nevertheless he came on all the trips just to ensure I was looked after since I was travelling alone, even if it meant he had to hike up hills in flip flops or trek across Horton Plains in t-shirt and shorts at break of dawn when temp is not above 10 degrees.
Throughout the trip, I felt very looked after. I would recommend his service to anyone who is coming to visit Sri Lanka.
On a separate note, despite the country being in a multi-decade economic crisis, the local people have prioritised visitors for everything (fuel, power, food etc). The warm hospitality and gentleness of the people have not changed amid the dire situation they are facing, and this has touched me greatly so. I sincerely hope tourism will recover for this beautiful country.

His English was excellent and he drove his Toyota Carolla Hybrid like a gentlemen. He drove carefully and skilfully and we were never frightened in Vish's car. We travelled all around the island including Colombo, Ella, Nuwara Eliya, Yala and Mrissa. If we didn't feel like looking at a temple or garden Vish was flexible and arranged something else for us. He kept us informed about the political and supply chain problems in a mature manner and we always felt safe. Vish also had a great sense of humour and an infectious giggle. I cannot recommend this great young Sri Lankan highly enough. He is a credit to his family, his company and his country.

We felt comfortable since Day 1 of the trip and Vish made a special effort to get to know us so he could tailor the itinerary to meet our needs. The whole trip was so smooth from start to finish and that’s thanks to our amazing driver. He has an excellent relationship with all of the hotel staff, safari drivers and local site guides which helps you get the best possible experience from every thing you do. It was without a doubt a trip of a lifetime and we wish we could relive it all over again.

I always felt safe & comfortable when he drove - he checked in regularly to ensure we were in enjoying our trip, room, sites etc. nothing was too much to ask of him. He was a combination of Driver, Tour guide, great photographer and even a good friend. I would personally recommend him to anyone visiting Sri Lanka. The car was always clean and smelled good, even stopped on the road to treat us with some corn. Vish even managed to take us to places we didn’t think we will have time to go to. He was always there and available at anytime and in anyplace.

Initially booked this tour with tour radar with one request which was that I wasn’t by myself, so they told me to book from the 19th of November to be with a group. On the day of my flight I got my itinerary sent to me and it said “PRIVATE TOUR!”
Mango vacations had not been told of my request which I believe because Nadeeka and Vishwa could not do enough to try and make things perfect for me. There were change hotels at late notice, they booked me on excursions that were not planned and even allowed two more people to join in for a large part of the tour. Vishwa (our driver) has a seemingly impossible task as the two unreasonable, uncompromising and unpredictable Irish women had joined the tour! With last minute requests, detours, frequent bank, food and bathroom stops and the daily expedition to go and retrieve misplaced tech essentials. Vishwa’s workload had quadrupled and his down time reduced near zero. Yet, he completed all his tasks willingly and with a smile. The guys from mango vacations turned my nightmare private tour vacation into the dream adventure I had hoped for (with a bit of help from the Irish ☘️).

Despite this, the tour company handled the situation really well and did their best to make the most of a difficult situation, being very accommodating throughout.
Our tour guide, Vish, was fantastic — super relaxed, friendly, and incredibly helpful. He made what could have been a stressful trip feel calm and enjoyable, always flexible and positive despite the circumstances. We really appreciated his attitude and support and would happily recommend him.

Number one being, as for most tourists Sigiriya rock castle. Initially, all queries were responded to v quickly, and then after payment, all went quiet, especially when I requested confirmation of final itinerary and list of hotels. Then about 5 days before tour was due to start, was asked if I minded starting tour a day later. Had already booked to arrive a day before initial start date, so wish I had known before I booed airfare. Had to request Whatsapp number as was getting concerned about how genuine this operator was. So was relieved to be able to speak to Nadeeka who said he would pay for extra night in Negombo So all good. On Day 1 after picking up rest of tour group, six in all, we were informed that, that was the entire group, and also that we would be visiting Sigiriya rock the next morning. As tour had started later than planned and we were v late getting to hotel in Sigiriya ie 9 pm, we were asked whether we still wanted to visit Sigiriya at 4,30 am for the sunrise. There was mixed opinion, and then curiously after the guide got a phone call, we were informed that another person was joining tour and suddenly it was decided we would visit Sigiriya rock the 3rd day and not the second day. The mini bus was already a tight fit for 6 passengers and I was concerned about fitting another person. We were offered the option the next day of getting a bigger vehicle but after majority decision to opt not to, we continued with the small bus. I doubt that we would ever have got a bigger one, because the hair pin bend and narrow lane that led to hotel in Nuwareliya would have been impossible to navigate in anything bigger.
On the evening of second day, two of us opted out of visit to Minneriya national park, and on our way to dinner, happened to meet three others from group who said that the guide wanted to know if we were interested in climbing Sigiriya rock at 4.30 the next morning, to which we replied no, as we had time to think about it and were not really interested in a sunrise view, and as I was also interested in visiting the museum, which would not be open so early. We met the same group again at dinner and they informed us that pick up time for next morning was 9.30, which I thought was a bit late as we had a v busy schedule ahead and had to get to Kandy for the cultural show, I thought at a specific time. By now, did wonder why guide had not contacted us directly as he had our WhatsApp numbers. At least mine, which was shared on day before tour started. The next morning, at pick up, we were taken to a sight for a distant view of the rock and took a group photo after which the guide said we were going to Dambulla. When I enquired whether we were coming back to visit the rock, was to my utter horror, told that because we had opted not to climb at 4,30 am, guide had ASSUMED we were not interested in visiting the site at all. I was disappointed to note that others on tour did not seem to care on missing out. One did admit that she did not know about Sigiriya until the previous day. Now I wish I had done a solo tour. We also found out that the person who joined on the second day had been taken to climb the rock at 4.30 am, So, had the initial groups itinerary been compromised to accommodate another? On reflection, think this is the problem with this operator ie having too many tours advertised to operate on every day of the year and trying to consolidate and optimise on transport to accommodate all the varying itinerary.
By now, I was inconsolable and had zero expectation and felt the tour was ruined for me To be fair, a few days later the guide did acknowledge his mistake and apologised and when Nadeeka found out I was staying on in Colombo for a few days after tour, he did offer to provide transport to Sigiriya and back , but by then I was too tired and did not want any further anxiety or disappointments, so declined the offer. Sorry Mango vacations, although I appreciated the guide, driver and hotels, you failed to deliver the whole package. The disappointment of not visiting the Sigriya rock castle site, will forever be etched in my memory and I will never again pick a previously unknown operator.

I don’t normally write reviews like this, but I feel it’s important to share my experience so that future travelers can make informed decisions. I believe it’s only right to give an honest and accurate account of what happened, as a warning and guide for anyone considering this tour.
I booked the Sri Lanka Solo Journey Group tour with Mango Vacations through TourRadar as a birthday vacation, expecting a smooth and well-organized experience. Unfortunately, what I encountered was a series of unexpected changes that left me feeling frustrated, isolated, and unfairly treated.
Everything seemed fine when I paid in full and received confirmation for my chosen departure date. However, just one week before the tour, I was suddenly told that my itinerary had changed. I was given three choices: accept a revised itinerary, pay extra for a private tour, or cancel and lose my flight and vacation plans. With just one week left, it was too short for me to replan my birthday trip, so I accepted the revised itinerary by Mango Vacations. It felt like I was backed into a corner with no good option.
Once the tour started, the unfair treatment continued. On multiple occasions, I was separated from the rest of the group and placed in different accommodations—sometimes in noticeably lower-quality rooms, sometimes in completely different hotels altogether. At one point, I was put in a cold, unheated room in a separate building while others stayed in the main hotel. Another time, I was abruptly told upon arrival that I would be staying elsewhere, only to end up in a hotel with no blinds, no air-conditioning, and loud construction noise. When I raised my concerns, I was moved again—but to an even cheaper place.
What made this situation even worse is that the hotel arrangements were never pre-made known to me. I had no prior notice of these changes, which left me feeling misled and unprepared.
As far as I’m concerned, a comparison of my revised itinerary with other group members showed no indication of any difference in hotel accommodations. It felt like I was treated as second-class when I shouldn’t have been.
The most upsetting part was when the company justified all of this by saying that I had “underpaid” for the tour and that they were making a loss on my booking. This was incredibly unfair—I had booked and paid in full, just like any other customer. If my payment was an issue, why was I allowed to book in the first place? Instead of delivering the experience I was promised, I was made to feel like a burden and treated as if I didn’t deserve the same quality of service as the rest of the group.
By the end of the trip, I had lost trust in the company. While the guide tried to offer a city tour as a goodwill gesture—which was actually supposed to be part of the original itinerary but was removed from the revised one—I rejected the offer because by then, I had lost all interest in engaging further with the company.
I also question whether this tour is actually capable of running daily as advertised. If Mango Vacations does not have the resources to operate this as a real daily tour, then why is it still being advertised that way? Did TourRadar even do a proper background check on this operator?
As for TourRadar, they have been keeping silent. They claim it’s still under investigation, but their inaction only adds to the weight of this sad, unjust experience.
As for Mr. Nadeeka of Mango Vacations, who justified all this by saying I “underpaid”, don’t you dare to reply and discredit this. Well, if you still show no remorse at all, and it is 100% customer fault, then I hope Sri Lanka is a country that truly believes in Karma.
The guide and driver were nice people though. You can sense when people are genuine. That’s why I tipped both of them anyhow—especially the driver. On the way to the airport, the mood was somber. I gave him all the rupees I had left—this included the amount people had paid me for a group dinner the previous nights and all the cash I had withdrawn earlier. I wish I will never see a Sri Lankan rupee again.

It allows flexibility but also provides comfortable benefits such as a car (nice for the luggage) and a reliable person throughout the tour.
The communication with Nadeeka was truly amazing and very uncomplicated. He even wrote us before our Flight to Sri Lanka.
Furthermore we enjoyed the flexibility mango vacation offers. When the weather for the Yala Safari was not very good our driver organized within minutes a Plan B. So when booking this Tour a maximum of flexibility is granted which we really appreciated.
We also want to mention our Driver and Tour Guide throughout our Tour called Vishwa. He would check each Hotel Room personally. He has a wonderful Character, was funny and by the way a very talented photographer - I can't remember, when my partner and I had such nice pictures of us together :-)
Everything worked fine, Vishwa was on time when picking us up at the airport and even already brought as a SIM card for the mobile phone.
The whole organisation from the beginning to the end of the tour was very reliable!

All things separatly would be ok. It's just the amount of incidents.
On the tour we were 2 people, who didn't know each other, i expected 5-8 people, which is always a nice travelling group (but ok). We didn't know each other and we had the luck of turning into friends. If not it would have been really weird to sleep in one bed and share one blanket.
1.) I sent my pick-up adress (several times) and i got picked up an hour later than supposed to.
2.) Before tour started I didn't know about first meeting point. So driver 1 brought me to driver 2 and stopped in the middle of a highway. And here the not existing organisation started.
3.) Than day 1 started and ended at the city i was supposed to be at day 3. Day 1 and 2 just got skipped without information.
4.) Besides that we got permanently asked, where we want to go. I just want to do the tour i booked and payed for.
5.) Staff was really friendly, driver 2 and tour guide went with us on safari incl. safari-guide. If we payed for their entrence-fee or not was not transparent for us. But we were 2 girls and had 3 guides/drivers, it sounds like a lot of unnecessary staff.
6.) My english is pretty good, (Vish) the tourguide's english was so bad, he didn't understand our questions, i am not even talking about answering them. He never told us anything. We didn't really understand why he was there. He was nice, but when he tried to speak english, he stuttered a lot of words which didn't connect with each other.
7.) Driver 3 (Hasan) was super friendly, respectful and was always looking for our well-beeing, he worked more than he was supposed to, his english was better than the tourguide's, although it was also hard to understand, but he did a lot of effort.
8.) On day 4 our tourguide decided to get his 3rd vaccination for 2 days. I think it's great that he got it, but was it neccesarry to get it during a 2 week-tour to leave for 2 days? He should have got it before or afterwards.
9.) Therefore the driver had to do the tourguide job. He was good for an substitute-guide. His english is definitely improvable, but he did every effort possible. Than we asked each other, why do we have Vish, if Hasan can do it on his own.
10.) Before tour started i got a tour-route, but it was not the one i booked. I don't know why i book something and we do something different and nobody asked if i am ok with change of contract.
11.) On Homepage they wrote about 4 activities i had to pay for, which are not included. On the list they sent me a few days before tour started it was 8 activities. And as a result we had to pay for every attraction/activity, nothing was included. It is also possible to travel and visit places where you don't have to pay permanently. It always felt like milking tourists.
12.) Most of the hotels were good, but definitely not 3 or 4 stars (not even asian-stars).The hotels were beautiful, but it was everywhere a bit dirty and covered in limescale. With a little bit of time and love they would look amazing, but this was not invested by then.
13.) Vish told us, that he was not a real tourguide yet. I am not asking why, just if you are not yet, why don't you make a little bit of an effort? I told him, if he doesn't know anything about the sights, he should just read a wikipedia article and tell us later, i am totally fine with that, i just want to know anything about it, but instead he always sent us somewhere and waited at the car. So we started to read it in a guidebook we brought.
14.) Till today we don't know why we had 2 staff.
15.) After telling management about the above, he sent us a new tourguide/driver.
16.) New tourguide (Sampath) spoke perfectly english and knew a lot about all the sights. Sounds good.
17.) First three days with him, we spent at the beach so we didn't need him and he met freinds or did something else, that's totally okay.
18.) The last 4 days the other girl's tour stopped and i was alone with the tourguide.
19.) He had the knowledge and he was able to speak a language i understand, BUT he was permanently on the phone. I saw him about 2-3 hours a day and there were no 5 Minutes without him calling someone. He was on the phone during visiting the temples and during all the other sights. When we were at the beach again he just left my backpack and went to the car for a phonecall. I thought he would eigther take my stuff with him or stay with it (My phone, money, creditcard, etc. was in it)
Result: This company should train his employees better. It was great to see so much amazing sights, but it was really sad and a waste of my precious vacation days, that we didn't get any information about it. That is not the reason i book a tour.

Mango Vacations tried to combine my tour with that of another customer. It transpired she was booked on a solo tour for a different length of time to mine and with a different itinerary. The issue here is that Mango Vacations were not transparent or honest about this and tried to bluff their way through.
Fortunately the other customer and I agreed our own compromised itinerary. Mango Vacations were fully compliant with this and the driver basically did as we asked. In this respect the company were accommodating. The driver was punctual and as helpful as he could be.
I experienced three different drivers. None of them had a good command of English so their usefulness as a guide was limited.
I enquired prior to booking about hotel standards and facilities. I was assured they were all star class hotels with Wifi, a/c, fridge,kettle. This was not the case. Two places were definitely not star class. Many rooms were not well appointed i.e. no light switch or socket near the bed, in one to boil the kettle,it had to be placed on the floor and the fridge unplugged. One room had a filthy fridge with an opened can of mouldy food.
There was no night life on the tour as advertised.
