  1. Day 1

    Arrival in Quito

    Your flight arrives at Quito airport where a private driver picks you up and takes you directly to your hotel. It's a straightforward transfer, so you'll have time to settle in and get oriented before dinner.

  2. Day 2

    Quito City Tour and Equatorial Line

    Start with breakfast, then walk through Quito's historic colonial center checking out churches and important landmarks around the city. Head up to Teleferico for views across the whole city from above. After grabbing lunch, you'll head out to the Middle of the World monument where you can stand right on the equator, and the Intiñan Museum nearby has some interactive experiments worth trying. Back in Quito for the evening.

  3. Day 3

    Volcano and Cotopaxi National Park

    Spend the day taking in volcanic landscapes, visiting Limpiopungo Lagoon and doing a short walk through the valley around it. Drive up to Padre Rivas Refuge at 15,800 feet/4,820 meters for panoramic views across the region. If you're feeling fit, there's an optional trip higher up to see the glacier at 5,050 meters/16,568 feet.

    Flight to Galapagos and Santa Cruz Highlands

    After breakfast, head to the airport for your flight to Galapagos, landing at Baltra. Your guide meets you and takes you to the highlands where you can see giant tortoises living naturally. Later, check out lava tunnels and twin craters, and you'll notice how different the green lush highlands look compared to the dry lowlands below.

  5. Day 5

    Galapagos Island Excursion

    Early pickup at 6 or 7 am for a full boat excursion to one of three islands: Santa Fe, Pinzon, or Floreana (which one depends on what the park allows that day). You'll spend the day hiking, snorkeling, swimming, and watching wildlife. The boat returns to Santa Cruz by evening and you'll have dinner back at your hotel.

    Isabela Island

    Take a 2-hour speedboat ride over to Isabela and check into your hotel. The morning is free, so walk around to a nearby flamingo lagoon if you want or visit the tortoise breeding center which doesn't charge admission. In the afternoon, head out to Las Tintoreras islets where you can see sea lions, marine turtles, iguanas, and manta rays, plus some nice snorkeling in clear water.

    Cabo Rosa Diving and Return to Santa Cruz

    A 45-minute boat takes you to Cabo Rosa where lava flowed into the ocean creating tunnels you can explore. Watch for penguins, blue-footed boobies, and sea turtles around the rocks. The real highlight is diving to see sharks, sea lions, rays, seahorses, and tropical fish up close. The whole excursion runs about 5 hours, and then you'll speedboat back to Santa Cruz.

    Lima City Tour

    After breakfast, explore three different periods of Lima's history. See La Huaca Pucllana (pre-Hispanic), walk through the Historical Center with its palaces, colonial houses, churches and plazas, then check out San Isidro with its residential and financial buildings. End the afternoon in Miraflores where you get panoramic views of the Pacific.

You'll see Qoricancha (the main sun temple), Sacsayhuaman (shaped like a puma's head), Qenqo temple, Pucapucara fortress, and Tambomachay water temple. The exact schedule might shift depending on when your flight arrives, but you'll hit all these sites.

  12. Day 12

    Sacred Valley of the Incas

    Leave Cusco heading to the Sacred Valley with a stop at Taray viewpoint to see Inca terraces and the sacred river running through. Visit Pisaq archaeological park and its colorful Indian market where you can pick up crafts and souvenirs. Lunch is in Urubamba village, then continue to Ollantaytambo, a town that's still lived in and has an interesting legend about a love story. The day finishes in Chinchero with colonial houses and terraces, and you'll stay overnight in Aguas Calientes.

    Machu Picchu

    Head to the train station and ride to Machu Picchu village, arriving at 10:30 am. A bus takes you up to Machu Picchu Inca City where a guide shows you around the main palaces and attractions for about 2 hours. After that, you have free time to wander on your own and check out the House of the Chosen, Intiwatana temple, warrior sheds, baths, aqueducts, or hike up Huayna-Picchu, visit the Sun Gate and Inca Bridge, or soak in the hot springs if there's time. You'll catch a train back to Ollantaytambo at 6:30 pm, then drive back to Cusco, getting in around 10:30 pm.

    These have been some fantastic days filled with experiences I’ll never forget. Every day was different; different species, different snorkling. We always got enough time to enjoy everything.
