Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Arriving in Kigali

    You'll arrive in Kigali and spend time exploring Rwanda's capital, including a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial where you'll learn about the country's history and how it has recovered. After that, you'll drive about 2.5 hours through farmland to reach Volcanoes National Park. Once you settle into your lodge near park headquarters, you'll have the evening to rest and prepare for an early morning ahead.

  2. Day 2

    Gorilla Trekking

    This morning starts before dawn at park headquarters where your guide will brief you on which gorilla family you're tracking. You'll trek through cultivated fields and climb steep mountain paths with a porter helping you along the way. After roughly 1 to 2 hours of climbing, you'll locate the Giraneza Group and spend an hour watching them in their environment. From there, you'll head back down for lunch and recovery time at Five Volcanoes, then transfer to Virunga Lodge for the night.

  3. Day 3

    Dian Fossey Hike and Gorilla Doctors Visit

    You'll return to park headquarters early to hike up to the Dian Fossey research site. The trek takes you through the same mountain terrain as yesterday, this time passing through ancient swampy forest with massive moss-covered trees. At the site, you'll visit Dian Fossey's grave and learn about her groundbreaking gorilla research and her death in 1985. After descending, you'll stop by The Gorilla Doctors organization to see their conservation and veterinary work firsthand, then head back to Five Volcanoes Lodge for dinner.

  4. Day 4

    Sunrise at Five Volcanoes to Nyungwe Forest

    Rise early to catch the sunrise over the lakes and mountains from your cottage, enjoying morning coffee as daylight spreads across the landscape. Have a leisurely breakfast on the patio, then drive south toward Nyungwe Forest. You'll pass through Rwanda's rolling hills and farmland before stopping for lunch at Cormoran Lodge, which overlooks Lake Kivu. By afternoon, you'll arrive at Nyungwe Forest Lodge, situated among tea plantations with views of the forest stretching out below.

  5. Day 5

    Chimpanzee Tracking and Canopy Walk

    Head to park headquarters early to find chimpanzees while they're still in their nests, listening to their morning calls. Trek through thick forest to locate them and observe them from a distance in their natural habitat. Later, you'll move to the canopy walk, a 200-meter suspended walkway that sits 60 meters above the forest floor. From up there, you'll have panoramic views of Africa's largest protected mountain forest and can spot rare orchids. When you return to Nyungwe Forest Lodge, you'll have time to relax by the swimming pool.

The final payment will be automatically charged to your credit card on the designated due date. The final payment of the remaining balance is required at least 60 days prior to the departure date of your tour. TourRadar never charges you a booking fee and will charge you in the stated currency.
