Itinerary
- Day 1
Algiers
You'll arrive at the airport and get picked up for transfer to your hotel. After that, the day is open for you to relax and settle in from your flight.
- Day 2
Algiers
After breakfast, you'll take a guided orientation tour around Algiers. The Kasbah's winding streets show where French colonial and Islamic architecture sit side by side. Next, you'll see the Cathedral of Notre-Dame d'Afrique with its views over the Mediterranean. By afternoon, you're at the National Museum of Antiquities checking out artifacts from prehistoric times through the Islamic period.

Algiers to S\u00e9tif
You'll head out early after breakfast toward Sétif, about 330kms away (roughly 4.5 hours). Once there, the local museum shows the area's Roman history. After lunch, you drive to Djemila to walk through the archaeological site where well-preserved Roman ruins from the 1st century AD include temples, basilicas, triumphal arches, and detailed mosaics.

S\u00e9tif to Timgad
Travel from Sétif to Timgad through Batna, covering 131kms in about 2.5 hours. You'll stop at Madghassen to see the royal mausoleum of Berber Numidian kings, then continue to Timgad. This largest Roman settlement in North Africa has grid-patterned streets, the Arch of Trajan, the Capitol, and a large amphitheater. The museum here holds some of the world's best-preserved Roman mosaics.

Timgad to Constantine
After breakfast, you drive to Constantine, about 118kms away (2 hours). This city sits dramatically on a shelf surrounded by a deep gorge. You'll see six bridges including the Roman Kantara Bridge, the Antonian Roman Aqueduct ruins, the Great Mosque, the Kasbah, Ahmed Bey's Ottoman Palace, and Constantine's Museum. The city has been important for Phoenicians, Romans, Byzantines, and Ottoman Turks.

Constantine to Taghit
You start with breakfast then drive to Tiddis to check out the archaeological site. After lunch, you head to the airport for a flight to Béchar (2 hours with a stop in Algiers). Once you arrive, you explore Béchar's former European quarter and traditional covered streets surrounded by date palms. Later, you continue to Taghit for the night as you enter the Saharan landscape.

Landmarks Tiddis - Day 7
Taghit - Beni Abbes
After breakfast, you drive to Beni Abbes, about 160kms away (roughly 2 hours), and walk through the sand dunes around this desert oasis. You visit the Sahara Museum and the clay fort of Charles de Foucauld from 1901, still home to monks. Then you explore the old Ksar in the oasis. Back in Taghit, you see caves on the cliffs and old Ksar Taghit with its mud-brick buildings among palm groves.

Taghit to Oran
You drive to Béchar, 95kms away (about 1.5 hours), then take a flight to Oran (roughly 2.5 hours). When you land, someone meets you at the airport for your hotel transfer. This journey takes you from the Sahara to the Mediterranean coast.

Oran
After breakfast, you explore Oran on a guided city orientation tour. The city sits on the coast and gets compared to Nice for its character. You'll visit La Cathédrale du Sacré-Cœur and Santa Cruz Fort, which sits 400 metres up on Mont Murdjadjo. Ottoman and Spanish builders constructed it in the 17th century, so you get sweeping views of the city, port, and Mediterranean. Inside you'll find a castle, chapel, and large statue of the Virgin Mary.

Oran to Algiers
You drive to Tipaza, about 375kms away (roughly 3.75 hours), to see ruins set against the blue Mediterranean. Phoenicians, Romans, Byzantines, and Christians all left their mark here in stone amphitheatres, temples, and basilicas. Next, you head to Cherchell to visit the museum with some of Africa's finest Roman and Greek antiquities. Carthaginians founded the town in the 4th century BC, and Romans later made it the capital of Mauritania. Then you drive to Algiers, 70kms away (about 1 hour), for your final night.
